Re: The "other game thread"
I rented it, it was well worth the few quid I paid! I just would have been gutted with it at full game price. It does have some of the best bits from the AC series inside of it though.Humphry wrote:

halfway through brotherhood and its pretty fucking awesome i must say
Relevations is pretty much the exact same game only you're playing an old man. I tried playing them back to back earlier this year, was well into Brotherhood, but after around 2-3 hours of Relevations I just got a bit board as it's the exact same stuff.
AC3 is looking pretty sweet though, and with the PC release this Friday (much better graphics) I'ma finally get to give it a blast.
It opens well, but it is quite dull, they do a decent twist and create a nice beginning story. Then you begin playing as Connor. Now, you don't get any true open world till you grow up and do a couple of targets. The game takes like four hours before you can even get into the reason why AC is so popular - free running and killing people! It treats you as a child with the controls that you should be used to be now in an attempt to introduce new players into the genre, but even a new player got the whole bloody jist in the first section.
Connor the character... He should just be called "Slightly frustrated native American." That summarises his role in the story, his motives, his every bloody action and story segment. He dulled the shit out of me.
The economy system was pointless! Yahtzee summarises this bit up really well. You learn to make crap, so you can sell crap, so you can improve your boat, so that you can open more trade routes to make and sell more crap. It doesn't give you some awesome new weapons or unique abilities, it just gives you a reason to accumulate hours.
You get to finally play as Desmond! For brief periods in a very linear style... great.
I have a fanboy friend who if you badmouth anything to do with Assassin's Creed, he just bums it and won't have any of it. He didn't like this one. If you play it, pirate it!
Man, that's so sad. I was really looking forward to this, now I'm unsure. I may do as you suggested and see if I can get some playtime in for free before deciding if I'm willing to spend money on it.

Was having some issues with logging on earlier.. might be due to the server thing you mentioned. I kept getting sent to American servers i think.Eira wrote:Terrain Republic on Miller for myself and Nifty (The red guys).Nifty: What else? The pruple chapter or the teenage rebels? Of course we go red!
Servers seem down for now sadly.
I'm sure Hump if friendly fire becomes a problem they'll put in a better measure to stop people getting put off by that. Though friendly fire should be allowed in any case.
EDIT: They are up. Rhogar on Miller server under Terran Republic.
If you lot wanna play later though, im up and ill force Quin along.

Will download the client tonight. From tomorrow on I'll once again be one of those sneaky buggers up in the mountains trying to score a kill in the name of TR.Eira wrote:Terrain Republic on Miller for myself and Nifty (The red guys).Nifty: What else? The snipers are hilarious right now. I had a sniper who decided to cloak and run right into me then around me. He thought I couldn't see him and he proceeded to run on behind me, I turn and gun him down. Easiest kill I had.
Then there was the incident where I sneak solo as heavy into a building and gun two venu's by the window and run up, empty the rest of the clip on a max then run in to knife him. <_<
This game is mega fun.

Loads of new people who have no idea how things work. Snipers thinking they're completely invisible doesn't surprise me in the least.Eira wrote:

But when you manage to sneak behind the enemy lines and start shooting them in the back...glorious moments.

Re: The "other game thread"
So I just finished the final episode of the Walking Dead game. Some of you didn't like the game play style, but holy fucking shit that entire first seasons story! They are some pretty dark guys. And the final scene at the end of the credits... How can they do that and then make you wait a year for the following season!?
I now need to smoke and do something happy cos if you really get into that series it's fucking depressing.

Re: The "other game thread"
I got killed the second I landed (literally had no time to even move). I deployed again. Same. Then I actually survived for a bit. Then got run over by a team mate.
At one point I managed to kill someone! Only to be killed by a team mate again.
There's something enjoyable there, inside Planetside 2. But I'm not sure I can be arsed weedling out that nugget of good...
In other news, I played DOTA2 (the beta that isn't a beta?) and enjoyed it. Way more than I thought I would.

Yeah, it does seem that around 90% of the tanks kill more of their own team by running them down than they do any opposition with their weaponry.

Look both ways before crossing the road. I’m sure you learned this as a kid, but for some reason we can’t get anyone to volunteer as a crossing guard at the Warpgates. Actually, this is good advice even off road. Be careful crossing any kind of terrain, especially if you can hear motors revving. Almost nobody wants to run you over if you jump out in front of their tank, but still, everybody will.

Re: The "other game thread"
I rarely get run over in all my time playing PS2. I've only had it happen once or twice. Though I did run someone over in a Flash today because the idiot ran right into my line of path without looking to see if anyone was coming by. This was at a base with lots of vehicles on the road anyway.
Though I played some with Lini today and I piloted a Liberator. We got under heavy fire and I landed and we got out so I could repair/we wouldnt blow up inside. At that moment my Lib is on 5% health or something and wasn't being shot at but sliding down a hill. I chase after it as an engineer to repair it only for some asshole team-mate in a liberator to shoot my own fucking liberator to debris.

Re: The "other game thread"
OK SO HERE IS A LITTLE RANT AT THE SIMS
So I saw new content for the Sims 3 came out and I thought, "Those prices seem a little odd for an old game." then I had a little look into the steam prices...
So with the Sims 3 being almost two years old now, with 16 DLCs that add in stuff like a few new bits of furniture, some new town spots to visit, some new clothes and a seasonal change, you're thinking: Well, the game itself should be about 10 - 15 pounds, then each DLC maybe a fiver at best? Considering it is EA. So all in all, you may think - well it'll probably cost like £80 (99 euros) for the entire pack. Rip off!
Nope. To buy all of the Sims 3 games, it will cost you a staggering £355 (439 euros). They get away with selling some new clothes and furniture in a DLC pack for 30 quid!
EA!!!!!

You're a life saver. Not ten minutes after I read this post I learned my other half wanted to get the sims 3 and buy it in a shop here. Norway being Norway, thats just expensive. Then I told her about the sale.
