Re: Warcraft movie
The imagary I saw was of old Stormwind, had nothing, or little, similar to current Stormwind pre nor post Deathwing.Muzjhath wrote:From what I've understood it's supposed to be like, about the first/second war (Lothar vs Doomhammer).
Then why is Dalaran flying? And why does Stormwind look like post Deathwing?

Re: Warcraft movie
The Stormwind you see in that picture is nothing like the Stormwind in WoW. This one is before getting ransacked and destroyed the first time by the orcs when they first enter Azeroth. So the layout and design of the city is completely different. For starters, there's no canals. The keep is situated in the middle of Stormwind (That is the keep, it isn't the church because the Church of Holy light was first built -after- the scourge invasion.) So it's pretty safe to assume, that this is pre-first destruction Stormwind. The harbor is also a lot different. And the 'picture' is supposed to be seen as if you were stood atop the main gates of Stormwind, meaning the plaza below is supposed to be where trade district is, and that's very much lacking.Muzjhath wrote:Bottom left side of the image. Seem's to be a waterfall at the edge of the water, and a very much collapsed bridge/ground next to that. In the area where the Park used to be.
As for Dalaran, it's clearly in the clouds. During the wars it wasn't.

Re: Warcraft movie
Well, that might be true. Did try to see the channals and didn't.
Still doens't cover the random waterfall (or what looks like it) next to the harbour. The ocean is in general very bad at doing waterfalls.
Nor the bigger question of "The fuck is Dalaran flying for?"

Maybe the movies don't fit in the contuity of the games and just nab whatever cool imagery they can get their hands on?
I'd honestly be okay with that, really. Best of both worlds - all of the worlds!

Re: Warcraft movie
I hope they draw upon this alternate universe concept that WoW has been playing with lately and make their own! A movie can never have as much depth as novels/the game, so hopefully it doesn't try to be as precise as possible - or else you'll have one of those "Harry Potter" situations.Thelos wrote:Maybe the movies don't fit in the contuity of the games and just nab whatever cool imagery they can get their hands on?

Re: Warcraft movie
I definately would prefer that. Kind of like how basically every comicbook-to-film adaptation has tried to tell its own story using the original as a jumping-off point and reference material, instead of slavishly trying to retell a story that was already better told.Thelos wrote:Maybe the movies don't fit in the contuity of the games and just nab whatever cool imagery they can get their hands on?

That way we wouldn't have to deal with WarCraft lore being further bummed by adaptation (looking at you, WarCraft Manga...) and wouldn't have a decent movie bogged down and turned to crap by trying to adhere to the original work despite the medium transition.

Re: Warcraft movie
Don't get your hopes up, folks. After all, keep in mind:
1: it's a video-game to movie adaptation, which has a history of not ending up well.
2: It's Warcraft, which never had the greatest of stories, which has worked in its own way just because they're video game stories.
At best, it'll transcend Uwe Boll levels at least.

Let me revise what I said cause it didn't make much sense.

Re: Warcraft movie
Since Blizzcon thread is no longer a Blizzcon thread, I felt like I should post these to another thread...and hey, one about Warcraft Movie should be nicely themed for 'em, no?
1st
2nd

First one's pretty fun and at least creative, the other two...mneh. The whole Garrosh thing especially was silly. Have him wake up and listen to a gramophone, while drinking tea and reading a pun-titled book, then look at photos that couldn't be anymore cliched even if you tried to, then have the whole thing end up in a dramatic fashion, wat? With that premise, I really just expect him to go berserk and beat up everyone, instead of this stuff. Nothing wrong with dramatic, of course, but that was just badly disjointed. But at least it was nicely made.
...and now I feel obliged to post a few of my favourites from past years. Not all Blizzcon-related, but close enough.
Obviously this one as well.

Re: Warcraft movie
Bit of a necro I suppose, but I suppose it's better than to make an entirely new thread for this.
Anyway, I wasn't even aware they had begun filming (or that there was enough hope to consider the fact that they'd come that far to begin with), but there you have it: The first screen from the production, featured in Empire.

All we see are two actors (which I can't recognize at first glance), but more interestingly a dude in what I assume is human armour, as well as a banner. And no green screen, if I'm not mistaken. I'll admit I'm surprised by that.

I just realized (a bit earlier) that Travis Fimmel is in the movie. My hopes for the movie upped a bit more now!

Re: Warcraft movie
It's still a slightly weird choice to deviate so far from such a recognised logotype for the same IP. WC 1-3 and WoW have all been variations on the same chunky/carved gold custom font (recreated [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]), which does look a little dated now but has its appeal and clearly yells pulpy, high-fantasy.
And the kerning is sloppy. War c r aft
But tbh probably wouldn't bother me if I wasn't a graphic designer.
