Re: Warcraft movie
TEKKEN WASN'T THAT BAD, SURE IT HAD A VERY DIFFERENT STORYLINE, BUT THE MOVIE ITSELF WASN'T HALFBAD. IT'S FREAKING TEKKEN, THEY DELIVERED THE FIGHTS.

Re: Warcraft movie
If this is still suppose to focus mainly on the Alliance (and humans at that) like I read centuries ago, that's already a good enough reason to skip the movie. But if one manages to ignore that, then there's the whole live action thing. Unless they've got some ILM level of professionalism (or better) working on that, I'm not expecting miracles. Of course movie visuals will probably shine up a lot before it's 2015, but still...

Re: Warcraft movie
The budget reported to be at the disposal of whoever the hell is making this film tells me that live-action will work. Look at Lord of the Rings, for example. I also think some of the books show us that a more focussed story within the Warcraft universe, rather than it being spread out across a world like it is in WoW, can be rather entertaining. For example the Last Guardian and of Blood and Honour. I don't believe it'll be a film made for the 'fans' of the game. I doubt it'll have the quirky aspects of the game within it, for example. It'll probably be more along the lines of how the books are presented(?). It'll be made for all audiences with little nods for us to appreciate like a spell/suite of armour/weapon we recognise.
Looking forward to it, personally.

:O It was an amazing movie!
I fear Ret-cons and shit. As Thelos said however, no reason they wont start it with the third war. Arthas falling and stuff and then there is room for a Warcraft movie 2.
On the other hand by 2016 Wow might be over in which case they can fill in with it and keep the lore alive until wow2 or WC4 or w/e.

Re: Warcraft movie
I doubt there'll be any lore decent enough to salvage for a movie by the time WoW is over.

Re: Warcraft movie
Am I the only one that's emberassed how desperately they keep emphasizing how the creators of the movie are totally WoW players; does the Special Effect supervisor have to be someone who stays up all night raiding while doing his special effects work just to be deemed worthy of doing the special effects of a Warcraft product? Why is it so important that the people behind the movies are totally gamers, man?
This reminds me of how M. Night Shymalan guaranteed the fans that he was totally a fan of the show and totally saw all the episodes together with his family...twice!
It's supposed to comfort me...But it's having the opposite effect! Welp!

Warcraft shouldn't try to be Game of Thrones.
I don't know, I'm always skeptical about movies and this panel only makes me feel more uncomfortable...We'll have to see. I hope to be proven wrong in my pessimism.

I'm happy you're unhappy, Thelos.
I think it's great! Warcraft wasn't as silly in the early days, so it'll be nice to see a grittier take on it. Like the original WoW trailer.

...Seriously though, it's mostly arbitrary skepticism on my part. I've been hurt too many times with these fantasy movies based on franchises I liked flunking in the most disaterous ways. The Golden Compass and The Last Airbender in particular having scarred me for life.
Who knows? Perhaps the Warcraft movie will heal the wounds.
Duncan Jones, I want to believe.

Well they were referring to visual effects and stuff, so it's not really trying to be GoT, but given the period in WoW, there are a lot of similarities anyway. T
To be honest, I really do think this movie could be sick. believe!

Re: Warcraft movie
Duncan Jones' Moon was a great movie, and most importantly his father is The Thin White Duke: this movie can't fail.
You're damn right about unhealed wounds, but I want to believe this time.
I think it's a good thing, I like to think this way the people involved in this project will work on a movie a fan could love, and not just a movie a producer would want. Having played WoW also gives you a better insight of the lore and the atmosphere of Warcraft.Thelos wrote:Am I the only one that's emberassed how desperately they keep emphasizing how the creators of the movie are totally WoW players; does the Special Effect supervisor have to be someone who stays up all night raiding while doing his special effects work just to be deemed worthy of doing the special effects of a Warcraft product? From what I've understood it's supposed to be like, about the first/second war (Lothar vs Doomhammer).
Then why is Dalaran flying? And why does Stormwind look like post Deathwing?

Probably because the task they were given was "try to translate it to high it might look in a movie as opposed to the cartoonish style we have in WoW", without the specifics having been decided on yet.

Re: Warcraft movie
Not sure about Dalaran but Stormwind looks pretty intact. I guess it just always had a harbour even pre-Wrath in lore. Also, I'm rusty on lore but isn't this Stormwind gunna get decimated and they will have to flee to Lordaeron?Muzjhath wrote:From what I've understood it's supposed to be like, about the first/second war (Lothar vs Doomhammer).

Bottom left side of the image. Seem's to be a waterfall at the edge of the water, and a very much collapsed bridge/ground next to that. In the area where the Park used to be.
As for Dalaran, it's clearly in the clouds. During the wars it wasn't.
