Completely unrelated, and I wish I still had a screenshot.

Councilor-whom-I-shall-not-name: "We respect the freedom of speech in this kingdom, the Chapter should not be allowed to spread its hateful message!"

[In context of Chapter being against freedom of speech when White Lion tried to publish a story about a Cultist-victory]

But yes, Human Rights. It is incorrect to say that they did NOT exist. They certainly weren't called human rights, and were not enforced with such zeal as they are now, but even earliest court records from 2500 B.C show a lot of respect for what we would now consider human rights. Then we must take into account that Church of the Holy Light is not a feudal Church of the middle ages, with absentee bishops who bought their sees and rule for the benefit of their feudal dynasties. Real Life church promoted concept of mercy and compassion, CotHL promotes it even harder. And is much more likely to see it 'enforced.'

2. The guards manage to arrest a backstreet mugger and lock him up in the cells pending a trial. But they didn't account for the mugger being such a clever chap. They should have searched every last fold of his clothes and shaved his head to find those various hiding places where he keeps a handly lockpick. These cells can't hold Agmar the Tricky. Come to think of it, they couldn't hold Boldot the Smart, or Migwell the Quick, or Stimcrank the Short, or any of the crafty Herbot family. The truth is, the cells are about as secure as a wet paper bag. There's really not much point in the guards even trying to hold prisoners. Perhaps a change in the law is needed so it isn't necessary. The Minister of Justice declares that, in future, all trials will take place before an arrest is made. It's not ideal as the accused isn't able to defend himself, but when there's no way to hold prisoners, there's really no choice. It's much easier to move straight to the execution.

Please try to keep your RP with the Guard guilds realistic. Try to remember that the Guards have a role too, and look for the spirit of the story, rather than the loopholes.

This is the second problem we guards face. If we lash the criminals they seemed to get turned on by pain and not even bat an eyelid, even if my character uses his favourite barbed whip. The only punishment that seems to bother criminals is 'Solitary confinement' which is not give them anything to do or any-one to talk to. I favour that and humiliation punishments, give demeaning tasks like clean the hundred steps of our Garrison tower with a very small paint brush.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you effect and cause.

depriving people of RP, will make them deprive you of RP.

Its a two way street.

Don't do the crime if you don't want to do the time, is a backwards concept. since its just as easy turned around on you: Don't arrest people if you don't want to guard them.

Shocking; the guards want to have fun RPing arrests and taking down criminals, but don't want to deal with less fun, consequence of having people in their cells.
While prisoners want to do the fun RP, by doing the crimes but don't like the consequence of sitting in a cell because its less fun.

There really, is a need to get out of this stupid circular concept here.

And i'm not talking about all the random dudes, that don't want to be arrested/etc... the simple answer to those people is ignore them, and don't bother thinking about them, but that's not the issue, the issue is about the halfway decent Rpers you personally want to involve yourself with, as it enriches both your storylines, or could potentially enrich both your storylines.

and this attitude just isn't going to fix it.

its an attitude that punishes/annoys the the player behind the character instead of the character. Once creates frustration, the other creates fun.

start looking at the entire picture.

Could not agree more Amaryl. we need to go beyond this asymmetrical good and evil RP and just see RPers and stories. And the guards have to also accept when they fuck up that there are consquences too and justice and law is not just a stick to hit cultists with.
