T'is a sad fact that that's the way it often is.
why is it a sad fact that you pick the class that represent your char the best? :O
Not what I said. I mean the amount of people who think your class should -constrain- your character. Of course you should pick the one that represents your character the best... but you should not arbitrarily limit who your character is just because of the class you picked.
Classes should be a 'best fit', not a cage.

Because mostly it seems that the class is chosen and the Background is written with the class in mind. If written in this order it seems that the Char is pushed towards cliche.
Perfect example is the "Death to the living DK" or the "Let us destroy the world Lock." They RP their class not their char.

This seemed to imply it for me. "My character is a shaman, therefore she cannot have faith in the Light, therefore she must have lost it", or something of the sort. Even if it didn't (and I apoligize if I read your comment wrongly, Morinth) I still feel it is worth to adress the matter, since you see it very often with Draenei shaman, and it rarely makes much sense at all.
Nononono... xD She learned shamanism after Nobundo started teaching in Zangarmarsh or wherever. After the whole business where he became a part of Velens inner circle and Velen said it was a path worth taking. She was young and naive enough to think that the Naaru should have done more to stop the Orc attack on Shattrath. So she rolled with the whole shaman business. Velen said it was a worthy path, many Draenei wouldn't go near the Broken, so she took that path for them. I just didn't like the idea of her being a priesty AND a shaman at the same time. xD

hehe well I have been tempted for some time.. due to monnys close relation with delidah and her natural i want to know everything monrena has been putting pressure on her spells and abbilities she uses Like blinking and vanishing.. this is something monrena has seen now as very usefull and even thow she is dedicated to becoming an anchoress and thus healing she is also tempted to try and at least get the basics of this.. Illusion magics.. thow this whole period of her friend going threw rehab has distracted her from this for now

This is the idea I am having serious difficulties with. The idea that if your character religious, or in the case of the Draenei, faithful to the Naaru, she has to be a priest or a paladin somehow. You dont have to be a priest or a paladin to play a character of a certain religious orientation. Priests aren't "The faithful" of a certain, race, they are the spiritual leaders of the faithful of their race. Maybe I just focus too much on what it means to be a priest in anywhere but WoW rather than what it means in WoW and roleplay, but to me being a priest is something more than a Lightmancer.
So, "not being a priesty" doesn't have to mean you automaticly have to loose your Faith in the Light, that's ludicrious. It just means you dont get to be act as a Confessor, Deacon, Guru, etc. You can still be a churchgoer though.
I mean I really do not understand this kind of mindset, that only priests or paladins are supposed to have faith in the Light. There is nothing wrong with playing what your class represents, of course not, but "religion and/or faith" is not constricted to the Priest class, so denying your character that just because she is not a priest or a paladin seems kind of arbitrary to me.

I agree. In human lore most follow the Light but just a tiny part are paladins or priests, if you are a baker, guard or peasant by trade doesn't matter.

Re: Initiative: Community Mass.
Jep, Every dreanei has the blessing to be able to commune with their inner-light... thanks to the Naaru's blessing, which is something exemplified in the Gift of the Naaru racial ability.
while human priests and paladins need to study and train for a very long time to achieve that... cop out i tell you, cop out!
In other news, I have chosen a lovely topic for Djego's mass, It is going to be controversial, fun and fabulous.
I suggest that even non-lighties show up at this one... even if its just for the fireworks!

I would like to add that ironicly an Anchorite is supposedly one who withdraws from society to commune and seek unity with the Divine, so it really is the poorest choice of words Blizzard could have come up with for "Draenei priests".

I meant rolling two classes. I picked Shaman over Priest cause I like the noise the totems make when you drop them. ;_;

What a difference a single letter makes.
"I'd rather be tied naked to a lamp post then listen to this" - I want to be tied naked to a lamp post and listen to the tale, but please tie me naked to the lamp post first.
"I'd rather be tied naked to a lamp post than listen to this" - I don't want either to be tied naked to a lamp post or to listen to the tale, but if I have to choose one, make it the lamp post.

blame it on imaginary forts accent, if you notice his last name is miss-spelled as-well for legal issues.
