I don't mind the whole register part, what I mind is that some players vouching aren't taken as serious as others. I've seen some people getting approved on one vouch, yet I've vouched for people who I've sent myself and it's not bloody good enough. >.> Not talking about mods vouching either.

I've seen topics where people start having conversations in their recruitment threads with people that are already fully-fledged members and they're -clearly- good friends.
... Yet people still felt the urge to question them in-game.
I'd like to think if you're already accepted onto the forum, then you shouldn't need to be second guessed and the vouch should be good enough.

Indeed. The vouch is only to say that this person is who they're claiming to be. Why would we lie?

And even then, I can't help but feel the Vouch is treated like a quality control measure.
Meh, maybe I'm way in over my head, but I agree for the opening of the forum.
I was registered for at least a month before I bothered to apply because as far as I knew... I wasn't missing anything worthwhile.

indeed when i registerd initialy it took nerely 4 vouches beffor i got the go ahead ended up being six when i finaly got "unlocked" as it were so it does tick me off that some can get in on one and others takes ten.. that realy needs looking at in my opinion
still agree to a forum unlock for general reading..

- Bot protection
- People with banned accounts making a new account
- Just a few months ago we were quite happy to have this protection from, say, Goon squad and other gankers.
I don't object to either path taken. It's a choice I leave to the mods.

Vouch was never a good word for it. Confirmation is a better one.

It's not really confirmation when some peoples word doesn't matter.

I've always taken it upon myself to discriminate and not count the vouches of certain people so that they realise how they are all below me. Or maybe not.
At any rate, I wouldn't mind opening up, but I reckon it's something that should be discussed with Saihna. Not sure if she has seen this topic yet, but I'll see if I can poke her about it.

I think she's pretty busy IRL at present, so I won't be expecting an insta-change. But just to add my voice to the masses, I think it would help promote RP to have the boards open. I understand that there was a lot of concern about OOCers at the time they were made and for a time afterwards, but I believe that now the benefits of drawing in new RPers - and existing ones who aren't registered here - would outweigh the dangers.

Re: The biggest mistake this forum has ever made
It would definitively be a thought to open up the contents to be viewed. However to write on the forum applications would still have to be made to prevent bots (and that is a problem that actually does happen a lot. I had an old forum just exactly the same as this which I opened. Bots all over the place within a week).
As mentioned though, I'm quite inactive for a while into January. So I will just have a quick talk with the mods to see what they say too (not that I think it will be any different then the general opinion here).
Getting back to you all on this shortly.

Application is a fine method; mainly due to the fact that, as mentioned, it keeps bots out. Whats the problem is the extremely limited access unregistered viewers have to the important parts of the forums.Monrena wrote:I dont think anyone here denies that the application method is not a good method

Bump.
Seems people are still clueless about the fact that you need to write an appication to see all the forums.
Is anything being done to make the contents public, or atleast easier to access, or not?

tbh I don't think Saihna is around this forum as much as she used to be, since she's no longer playing WoW, but I'll do my best to direct her attention to the issue.

She can make other admins if she hasn't already. Probably wouldn't hurt to set a couple of 'em up.
