Bah, carve his bones into a majestic headdress for the next Expedition Leader! That's the only way to do him proper justice!

Make sure all cave areas that you have breached into are sealed off from the rest of the cave system. Build walls, floors, etc.

Ohhohhoo, things are becoming only more fun. Yes! Do as Saevir said, cage in the beast! Then we can make humorous attempts to tame it later.
The fortress can take a lot of punishment before it perishes. Eagerly waiting for your piece of journal. n.n

Nevertheless, you're forgiven for the use of time. I have to admit that I forgot about this for a time.

That's the monster that I mentioned skulking around in my own writeup. It gained a second name after it slaughtered a lizard man tribe somewhere in the caves.

Time for the Fourth year of Crowhall.
(i forgot writing down spesific days so you will have to settle with months....)

To my suprised i noticed that there Saevir had bumped his head or something and forgot he was supposed to lead the fortress for another year now. I off course did what any responsible dwarf would do in this situation, i stepped in and started giving orders myself.
One might ask what qualifications i have that will help me lead a fortress, to that i have replied several times in my rule "shut your mouth!"

Month of Granite
The first thing i noticed as i decided to take up my rule was the horrible amount of dwarves sitting around not doing a thing.
I decided to put them all to work and quickly tried to find out what needed to be done.
I realised the short stud standing up from the ground above our glorious caves, was actually supposed to be a tower.
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen10
As it need to rise up as a shining example of craftsdwarfship i decided to put some of our masons on the job straight away.
The plan is to make the lower parts of stone and have the rest made out of wood. It will stretch into the sky as a giant insult to elves everywhere. As i remembered Lini muttering something about the elves trying to give us limits on how much lumber we could cut i ordered the deforesting of the nearby lands.

The rest of the month progressed rather slowly with Saevir constantly making parties and me trying start up a decent weapon and armor production in this damned fortress. Also Ovelia started acting strange and ran of to one of our forges. Im hoping for a epic weapon or piece of armor.

Month of Slate
The deforesting is going great! Places previously full of trees now only have sapplings and shrubs!
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen11
This certinaly had me quite happy and helped dull the dissapointment i felt when Ovelia finished what she had been working so tirelessly to make. She made a crutch, a damn crutch!
The word of her "amazing" crutch must have reached the mountainhomes as shortly thereafter migrants arrived.....
I drafted the majority off them into the military together with some other dwarves i thought had useless jobs.

Month of Felsite
One of the recruits have gotten my hopes up for our entire militia.
This is due to the fact that i got a complaint that he was absent from training due to chasing away a bear with his bare hands.... I hope this Jimble will grow to become a great warrior.
Tradegy has struck as Saevir our trader died from a infection! i need give somebody else the job of trader but this is indeed one of the biggest losses this Fortress has had so far.
I decided that he should get a private Tomb as he was a great overseer in his time. The engraver Sophie engraved quite a few masterpieces in his tomb. Maybe we should have had her do all of it.
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen12
Well Saevir was certinaly a great trader and overseer and as the general luck in this fortress goes a elven caravan arrived right after his death. Its not that we need a trader for the damn elves we will just seize all their goods and send them on their way.
Luckily for us they had a bear or two in captivity which we can train later.

Hematite and Malachite was two quite uneventfull months.

Month of Galena

I got sick of people not doing anything again and sent a couple of people fishing and continued the construction of the tower. I also dug one layer into the adamantite. But due to the old stories of what is rumored to rest underneath adamantite ive decided thats as far as we will go. Ive decided i will ready a defense there with balista's and traps.
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen13
Anjelica also acted weird for a while and made a glorious looking wooden splint.... What is it with this place and legendary doctoring equipment?

Month of Limestone

Thenkar who is our new trader seem to busy to greet the human merchants as he rather wants to attend parties and then sleep.
I also had to deal with Sophie's whining after one of the miners destroyed one of her artworks. Damn artists....

Month of Sandstone
The siege engineers have setup a workshop and then went on to making balista's for the adamantine run.
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen14

Month of Timber
I ordered the miners to make a bear pit and they had it finished really quickly.
We dumped the bears in there and im hoping they will breed so we can make a small army of war bears.
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen15
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen16
other than that i ordered a archway of wood to be built over our road as a gentle fuck off to any elves venturing to our fortress.

Month of Moonstone
Winter has come and my first action has been fixing up our militia a bit.
It seems they were confused about what weapons they were supposed to use as one of them was wielding a shield and a buckler. I went ahead and told them what they should use and i hope its all sorted out this time.
The miners also started chopping away large amounts of the mountain behind the castle so we can make a large wall there or something in the future
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen17
A minor disaster happened as Halya fel down while removing one of the last parts of rock.
She has been brought to the infirmary with hope that there was no permanent damage.

Month of Opal
We have been making some of the storages larger and the moving of stones and goods have been taking up most of the dwarves time. Also the siege defense is finally in place properly. Now any beast trying to get up from underneath the lava needs to get past 4 giant arrows.
Dwarf Fortress - Page 7 Screen18

Month of Obsidian
Things have continued as usual. The tower is getting higher and some artifacts have been made.
Halya is still recovering and spring is on its way.
I think i will let somebody else take over the administration, hopefully somebody who know what they are doing.

(thats all i dont know who is next but hopefully somebody a tad bit better than me Razz)

Enjoyed reading it nevertheless! I think that it's either Saevir or me next on the line, unless we got new volunteers. I hope it's Saevir, because my Uni's beginning tomorrow and I don't know yet how bad timesink it'll be. xP

I have to admit, I read these stories with childish delight, and fear the day I will (again) see that Morgeth has died. She's still alive, right? RIGHT?!

I think Morgeth was one of the casulties from the bear invasion during Thenkar's year.

Woo-oo! Everything's worse with bears! \o/

If no one else steps up, I can play the next year. Just that it might take some time, depending on how much work they'll lob on me in the beginning.

Looks pretty awesome, might give it a shot one day.

Just a curious question though, are you able to fight other people and their fortress? Thus..able to destroy what other people have worked to create?

There is no resurrection. Death can come at any time, and easily. :p

(At least you didn't die from injuries sustained by being beat up by the fortress law enforcement officer.)

No, no! But I think Lini named a migrant Morgeth in her last game, after that DAMNED bear claimed my life.

But <_< I won't make this some personal crusade for my dwarf. Keep the stories coming though <3

And for Praxan: There's nothing like that yet, as Saevir said. I think the closest alternative is to get hands on the save, then abandon it and go to reclaim it.
That way you'll get a sizable dwarf army and the Fort is usually filled with monsters, which you need to clear away. Naturally all the megabeasts, who conspired the Fort's downfall should be there too<3 (If there were any alive).
Also, some of the original dorfs might linger in the halls, descended into lunacy. I don't know if they can be aggressive or if they just wander and babble. :/
It was like this a couple of versions ago, I don't know if the Toady One has tweaked it since.
