Now, now let's be honest, American culture imperialism and the continued anglification of the Dutch language will eventually mean the death of (parts of) the Dutch culture.

I could only make out Washington, but certainly not the event. /uneducated
American history is a subject I'll be studying in great detail this year. Antistia, if you remember your last year at school, you'll understand.

Probably something about Vietnam and also the Dutch Republic. It tends to be pretty standard to do that.

Okay, I'm currently watching episode 1 of Spartacus. Does it get better than this later on or am I better off just turning it off now?
Don't remember the name of it but George Washington just kicked major british ass in the battle.
EDIT: Your link says Yorktown. Lol, the picture depicts the end of the revolutionary war!

Spartacus is great. Good story, great characters, plenty of action and plenty of sex. What more does a show about Gladiators and Rome need?!Ixirar/Kavalis wrote:Okay, I'm currently watching episode 1 of Spartacus. Does it get better than this later on or am I better off just turning it off now?

I need my immersion to not be broken constantly by horrid greenscreens and a constant use of time-inappropriate curse words ("Fuck" and "shit" being thrown about casually as if it was a film about an american ghetto). A bit more emphasis on the bad film editting. I just saw a shield break a skull of some barbarian even though there was VISIBLY NO PHYSICAL CONTACT between the shield and the skull... When the nigga-thracian isn't talking and there's no special effects on screen, it's alright. But whenever somebody needs to swear or the tech team made a special effect, I cringe >>

Spartacus is nearly the only character that doesn't swear... O_o
And if you mean the actual black guy, he's not thrace. At all.
And Batiatus swears the most.
And Lucy is still looking good for her age.. And if you find her too old, wait for Viva Bianca as Ilithyia, she's young, and healthy for the eyes.
Also, I don't get how you can hate on any of the butchery in the series, it's a fucking brilliant, and the special effects aren't that bad, honestly. People are too thickminded these days.

The reason in the first season that the SPX are dodgy is because it was considered low budget at the time. It has improved but not to a huge extent as it is very styalised. Much like 300! God help you if you watch an indie film.Ixirar/Kavalis wrote:I need my immersion to not be broken constantly by horrid greenscreens and a constant use of time-inappropriate curse words ("Fuck" and "shit" being thrown about casually as if it was a film about an american ghetto). Swearing in ancient Rome is something I'm not actually familiar with. With Latin being the main language, I'm not sure what their equivalent would be, however, it does work to characterise people like Batiatus "The Gods proceed to ram cock and ball up arse." He is hilarious and foul mouted, it really works for him. As for when others do it, it is usually through aggression which is a common thing in modern times so I think it fits. The best thing about the language is that, even though they're speaking English, they avoid conjunctions - much like Romans did at the time, Latin being a language which lacked them for the most part.
EDIT: And Lucy Lawless was Xena! How can you not want her?
