Bryn, human trickster rogue.
I think you need a tag thingy, so Bryn@somethingorother
But I don't understand the UI or commands much. I did just collect some sludge for someone. That was thoroughly... exciting.

This Pokémon MMO is the bee's knees.
It's such a bizarre experience to play trough a game you're so familiar with (Pokémon [fire] Red), only with dozens of other people running about.
I've already found my rival in Manathon.

Think of a FPS, but instead of playing and winning several games a day.. Each match goes on and on for days, weeks even. Hundreds, if not thousands, of players spread over three factions just duking it out on a huge continent in a futuristic setting.

You need the tag to add a friend directly, but you can search for a person without the tag when they are online and then add them as a friend.

Re: The "other game thread"
Hm, well, got to max level on Neverwinter with my TR, the last few areas are glorious. The Chasm was one of my favorites as was the northdark. I enjoy that it's not afraid of being genuinely challenging here and there, and requires players to react quickly and adapt their abilities. Around level 40-50 the game more or less goes: you should know what you're doing by now. And it ramps up a little.
There's a few cons of course; the cash shop means PvP is essentially pay-to-win right now (not that it isn't still enjoyable) with those on the higher-quality cash shop mounts at a massive advantage.
The bosses are a little samey- it's always about the adds rather than the boss itself, and the types of adds detirmine how difficult the fight is (Werewolf one is the worst for this from the dungeons I played).
A few things such as aggro need tweaking- the worst is that right now, 2 healers is more viable than tank and healer, because the tanks can only mark (taunt) up to 5 mobs- whilst 2 healers can stack Astral Shield and make the party more-or-less invulnerable.
A few zones felt very short- the last 2/3 in particular it felt like you were just getting into them when it was time to go.
But overall, it's solid, the actual core gameplay is FUN which is so refreshing for an mmo.
The lore is interesting and make me want to look into rp- although the lack of rp servers puts me off a little.
The Foundry is glorious- though they nerfed the xp from it because people were making XP exploit maps- it's still good for rpers or those interested in creating content, or trying something different.

Oh god, this is bad in so many ways...
http://www.ea.com/news/ea-and-disney-team-up-on-new-star-wars-games
It'll probably save EA and regain all their lost customers because so many people want Battlefront 3, but at the same time they'll completely destroy an entire franchise of games.

I want a new Battlefront yet hate EA. I am conflicted. Should I be happy or flip my table.

Re: The "other game thread"
Meh, I'm in the same position. I'd already decided to never buy an EA game again, but there's no point sticking to that now because they'll get thousands of new customers once the new films are released and people flock to buy their abominable games.
Re: The "other game thread"
Yeah, I work in GAME and pretty much recommend any new title that's not got EA written all over it. They ruined so many game trilogies for me.

Gleam of hope that they might change their ways. As they have had a significant drop in margins.

Is EA hate justified or just popular opinion? Just curious why they are more evil than any other company.

There isn't anything evil about them. They're just not very user friendly. They're a business after all, so it isn't evil to sell their products.Lexgrad wrote:Is EA hate justified or just popular opinion? Just curious why they are more evil than any other company.

I've always said that, in the sense of they are a business, they make money, it's what they are meant to do. My main issue with them is the fact they put so much pressure on their design teams to rush out the game as soon as possible.
Also not a huge fan of the "Online Pass" that costs you eight quid, but that I can live with.
I was talking to a Microsoft representative that used to work for EA and he said the atmosphere is just very stressful because they are so adamant to get games out, so rush the designers/script writers/programmers.

Re: The "other game thread"
EA aren't really evil.
They're just shortsighted dicks that have no good will with your core costumeers. Regularly misstreat them. As well as being bad for the imagie of the industry more often than not with horrendous fucking marketing champaigns.

I remember pre-ordering BF3. It was supposed to come with 2-day early access. I downloaded it, and... I couldn't play 2 days early. I couldn't play 1 day early. I couldn't even play on release day after staying up overnight, due to some Origin server shit (happens with most of the games they release, they don't work). I couldn't even play single player because, you know, always online. I ended up pirating the game just so I could play it.
Similar thing happened with SimCity (I didn't buy it, but it happened to everyone that did). The servers didn't work. Then when people could actually play the game, the servers were overloaded, so they actually removed features from the game to lessen the server load. How the fuck the biggest publisher around can consider that acceptable I really don't know.
Even worse was that SimCity had some ugly launcher. When you tried to log in and the servers were full, it wouldn't let you try again. There was no login queue. Instead, you had to wait 30 minutes and the launcher would try again automatically. And, since there's no queue, well... it's entirely down to chance if you get on. You could be waiting for hours to play a singleplayer game you paid for.
And then there's the bugs. The game was full of glaringly obvious bugs. Everything from the very fundamental gameplay elements completely not working to peoples' cities being deleted randomly after hours and hours of gameplay. Now, I played the beta, and it was just a shitty glorified demo. It was limited to 1 hour and the majority of the game was inaccessible. But they didn't even need a beta to see these problems. If their QA testers played for 2 hours, it'd be impossible for them not to know the game wasn't just bad but broken. They went ahead and released it anyway, and after all this time it's still not even close to fixed.
Then there's DLC. There was a time when you'd buy a game and the developers would decide to make DLC to add something extra to the game, so they'd sell it. But EA remove stuff from the game and sell it. Worst of all is the day 1 DLC - the stuff is even on the disc, you just need to pay extra to unlock it. And the preorder bonus DLC that convinces you to preorder so when the game turns out to be shit they've still got your money.
I hated what they did with Mass Effect 3 DLC. They left out loads of major lore events and added them in DLC. ME3's ending was inconclusive and the 'Extended Cut' was just a slideshow that was basically the same regardless of chosen ending. But they then released the paid Leviathan DLC to give massive plot info that should have already been in.
Their customer service is fucking abominable. They won't give refunds, ever, even when their games are terrible/broken/not at all as advertised. They don't display their phone number anywhere. You can only contact them by going to their ugly customer service page and fill in a form that determines the nature of your problem. If they deem it worthy they give you their phone number. If not they give the option to live chat, or sometimes only email.
The live chat reps are usually illiterate and rarely understand the problem at all.
This is one of (if not the) biggest, richest publishers in the world, and yet they don't just shit on their customers to make extra money, they don't just enforce DRM systems that ruin the gameplay experience and don't work, but they consistently lie about what's to be in their games (Battlefield 3 environmental destruction, to name one example) and they release games which are broken. Not just bad, not just flawed design, but games that actually don't work.
The only reason most people still buy from them is because they buy successful developers with massive franchises (BioWare!) and ruin the franchise in a quick cash-grab. If you want the conclusion of a game series, you need to buy the game from EA. And once they've finished shitting on the developer, they close it down.
EA is a genuinely terrible company.
