Yes, you two fight yourselves to exhaustion. Then I shall swoop in, defeat victor because he has been weakened, and claim my prize.
I'm not a dick, I'm a pragmatist. Steam package, I presume?

Hammerpoint's War Z: Could any game developing company be worse?
For any of you who have missed the latest "Steam drama", I found this pretty hilarious and embarassing. You may be thinking "EA are the worst company!" but this game has truly put me off any product they ever create in the future, no matter how amazing it could potentially be. I have not got the game, but I've been reading up so many articles about it and my friend stupidly bought it!
War Z as a game:
The original intention for this game was to be some sort of generic war game, then Day Z was released and they began to copy a lot of the content. They denied copying Day Z and said they were the originators. I never quite understood why they wanted to be hipster about it considering copying Day Z is a bloody smart idea atm. However, where did they go wrong? Pay. To. Win. With guns being incredibly hard to find, you can pay for them in real money! How about more backpack space? Or avoid that 4 hour respawn time? Not to mention the lack of things to actually do in the game with the night times lasting hours on end. Oh, I didn't mention that zombies take ages to kill but can kill you in a couple of attacks. Or how about the fact that you have two types of players in the chat: hackers or people complaining that DayZ is better. Meet the only survival game which you'd prefer to be eaten by the zombies than have to live in such a dull world.
Moving to Steam
Now this is the bit where it gets funny! All things aside, the game itself is very much a pay to win product but we've all seen those. When it came onto steam, however, they made up a few things.
Lets go through the points that they say are in the game (the beta, I might add. They didn't mention that either!)
So they failed to mention that this was their intentions for the future and instead just listed it as features. That's fine, everyone can make mistakes. They apologised. Apologised? No, sorry, I meant they blamed everyone that bought their game. They said it was everyone's fault that they expected those features to be in the game and that they read too much into it. A little confusing considering it was under the features tab!
So the result of this was that Steam pulled it from their stores and offered a refund to anyone that bought into the false advertising.
Advertising
Then I found out about how lazy the developers of the game actually are. Lets start with the fact that they're clearly quite childish as they banned people from their game for insulting it. Someone was banned for saying Day Z is better!
Then looking at their Terms of Service (which is copy and pasted from League of Legends!) they put in a line at the end where if you agree to their terms, you're not allowed a refund!
But possibly the funniest thing about this was their zombie photo stealing...
The Walking Dead game had some of their zombies stolen as well!
I had to post about this, I'm sure a lot of you have seen it. It is funny but so, so cringe worthy.

First of all, there is only one map, but how many square kilometers is it? Perhaps 50? 25? Try 9.4! There was a guy who did all the calculations by working out distances between trees via using the average male height and crawling between them, timing himself walking between grid lines etc. So 9 - 10 Square km give or take."Each world has areas between 100 to 400 square kilometers"
No private servers exist and they also mentioned it can hold up to 100 players on a server. Nope, half that."Public or private servers allocating spots for friends or clans."
Which are not in the game yet either! They also went on to mention that they had a hardcore mode. Nope."Learn dozen of available skills"
So they failed to mention that this was their intentions for the future and instead just listed it as features. That's fine, everyone can make mistakes. They apologised. Apologised? Think its actually 2 xp last i tried... but if you place it in a really active full out warzone and keep it repaired the amount of xp you can get is insane.Lini wrote:5xp per spawn, I think it was. Don't quote me on that since I don't usually drive a sunderer.Eira wrote:Nifty wrote:I saw a MAX with something looking like testicles stuck to his boots... Most interesting.
That was pretty insane.
XP for people spawning in your sunderer also? Thats uh...Insane if the number is in double digits per spawn.
Usually it's infiltrator or mosquito for me, although the cert costs for mosquito weapons are frustratingly high.
Also...hacking a vehicle console in an enemy base and then spawning a sunderer is a neat little infiltrator trick, I've found out.

This is wrong. You can buy ammo, not guns. Regardless, anything your character wore when dying, is lost forever. Including payed items.Vaell wrote:However, where did they go wrong? Pay. To. Win. With guns being incredibly hard to find, you can pay for them in real money!

Re: The "other game thread"
Far Cry 2 is on sale on Steam! It's good value for 2,5 euros, even if I prefer it on console.
The thing though, is that it's one of the shooters that hates the player with a passion. The AI is mean, they'll come at you from several directions if you can't take them out fast enough. They'll run you down with their car, just like that, if they see the opportunity, they'll respawn so quickly, you barely notice they're gone. It's not one of the games you should play systematically, mission to mission either. Take your time. Try out different loadouts (dart rifle much reccomended, as well as all explosive/fire-based weapons). Make the world burn, in the dry areas fire is an amazing weapon and damn pretty.
Keeping that in mind, and that the "story" is laughably stupid, it's one of my favourite shooters, and definately worth grabbing while prices are down, possibly worth trying even when they're at the regular.

Erghhh, that's a bit gash - it'll be at least another month and a half, if that. A shame the map won't be redeveloped more but hopefully they have opened up a lot more buildings like they said they would.
I love the bit about items though!

Well, Rocket's supposedly going to climb the Everest in early April, and wants it to be out before then. So I think 1.5 month would be a reasonable guess.

Re: The "other game thread"
Has anyone played around with Don't Starve?
It's really nicely drawn little game. Simple enough but fun too. Like the wierd Kobold player game in StarCraft2 - if you've played it...
I have, the demo anyway, and I really like how it looks/feels. Almost tempted to go for a key for the whole shebang... just dunno.
Anyway, I enjoyed it.
As an aside ... still playing DOTA2 here and there, massively surprised I really enjoy it. And (possibly luckily) haven't come across any massive pricks or tools (yet).
Also, took advantage of the Steam Sale to get my hands on Skyrim's DLC for cheap. Oh, and a legit copy of the game for myself. Shhh...

So this;
Tied to this;
Advertised as events in one medium affecting the other and viceversa; a pretty balsy concept all in all. Reserving judgement on the MMO part till the beta next week, catiously optimistic at the prospect of having a new scifi show on TV.
Also, hype time!
CDred teasing us with their new RPG.

CDred teasing us with their new RPG.
The teaser shows how the Psycho Squad might acquire a new member.
The Psycho Squad specializes in combating "psychos" -- individuals who overuse implants and substances that boost or otherwise alter the human body.
There comes a point when they overdose on these innovations, and their bodies start to rebel against their biological body parts as well as all things organic around them. Simply put, they start killing people, who they now derisively call "meatbags."
When a psycho goes on the rampage, strange things can happen. There's carnage, and the psycho might be taken down by regular police, but they're not always able to get the job done.
When things spin out of control, they call in MAX-TAC (Maximum Force Tactical Division), popularly called the Psycho Squad.

Hooked up with some outfit on Miller for now. Found out I can't pilot liberators worth a damn when I managed to flip one over and get stuck on the roof of the warpgate spawn within 3 seconds of taking off. The drunk american in the gunner's seat was amused at least.

I'm on Miller I think. I havn't played in a week or two due to busyness and other interests but then it's so lonely without people to play with. I have my med-gun maxed out (Under 1 second turret ressing is sick) and a pimped out liberator with anti tank and anti air attachments. So that always helps! Plus my medic in general is pimped out. Think I am playing on Miller.
