Re: The "other game thread"
I hate the very mention of it! I remember when Morrowind came out, I spent hours with a friend in boring classes (being about 12/13 or something at the time) coming up with how they could do it online. Obviously, we were naive with it but as the years went by, I've hoped that they would create an online. Then the mention of the MMO hit me and I built excitement. Then, looking into who did it, my heart sank. A generic, dull questing based MMO that is using the vehicle of the Elder Scrolls lore so it can drive forward into our wallets.Drefurion wrote:

The reason Skyrim did so well was because it was open world with a fluent combat system, you felt like the hero and you could explore your own world before others did. This will have as much good as APB had compared to Grand Theft Auto. Sure, it'll be fun for a couple of weeks, but it misses out 90% of what I want in an RPG about the ES universe.

Sounds like they've started dealing with parts of the massive shitstorm they got when it was "It's gonna be like TES-WoW. Which is good.
Sadly, it still doesn't seem all that sandboxy, evey if they've managed to get better grips on the character and combat parts.
Hope someone slaps them more and it gets more sandboxy.

Re: The "other game thread"
Yeah, I really like the idea of a TES-Online game, have done for years now, like most of you it seems. And while I am pleased in how they have handled the combat system, like Vaell and Muzjhath I can't help but be a little disappointed with the lack of a true sandbox world (though I can sort of understand that with the MMO style they have gone for) and the fact they sound like they've stuck to the traditional WoW style questing system. Tbh, we need something new and we need something better. But over all I'm impressed with what I've heard so far.
I do have high hopes for it, but I also hope they do not try and charge a monthly sub or the game will bomb out. It's sad but it's true. If they want an MMO to do well right now, they have to move away from the monthly sub model and go for something different, such as GW has.

So as long as they don't sell Aviator glasses.
About the questing, that's always been what you do in TES games right? I don't think Jesse specifies what the quests entail, I just hope it's not "go collect 10 bear dicks" and more like "go in to that cave, kill x normal vampires, kill x adept vampires and kill named master vampire" Or even just: "go kill master vampire" and then like Jesse does say another 4 quests that tie in to that story aswel. No reason to be innovative away from how quests in TES games work other than making a groundbreaking MMO, which in turn would make it less like a TES game, imo.
I think that in the middle-area, the pvp (and hopefully pve/dungeon/raid area, heck pve raids could aid the pvp battle) it'll be rather sandboxy. I love the WvWvW in GW2, if they could create something like that but even bigger and better I would stop all my RL musings and just be there 24/7.

Re: The "other game thread"
Well, the picture Jesse painted seemed that areas seemed very level specific.
While in Skyrim most places level doesn't matter all that much.
I know there are a few places like the Ice Troll ruins, or some Dreugar Overlords etc. But most of it is "Go where you want to!"
While this questing experience seem's more themepark in "Go where we want to".

Re: The "other game thread"
It was more the fact that he likened the questing system to that of MoP rather than any of the other TES games. For me, questing in WoW is the worst part of the game, and the reason I only ever have around 3-4 max level characters at any one time. But if say what the quests entailed was more akin to the quests you got in Skyrim, then fair play it'll actually be fun.
Also I seem to have gotten a similar impression to you of what that feckin' HUGE central area of the map will be like, it does sound as if it'll be a larger WvWvW style area.

Halo 4 comes out soon and so does the new CoD. Black Ops 2 will be very good, MW3 was lacking.

Not sure if I like the whole slightly futuristic angle, but we'll see how it plays out.
Personally, I prefer to go all out on the futurism if you're goin' that route.

The more I learn about it the more I like it, I was very sceptic at first but as it is now it might be my next MMORPG after WoW.

Sword of the Stars 2 is a great game, if you didn't know already. It's just always fun how a SotS game take like one or one and a half year to be playable after it's been released. But the wait is worth it!
