why am I not allowed to freely hate Jews? what happened to freedom speech! And anyways, I am the way I am because I am the product of my country's antisemetic curriculum so it's not really my fault. honestly I am a victim of discrimination and society

And I think the freedom of speech is like the freedom of waving around your arms like an idiot. The 2nd one ends where the nose of the closes individual starts.

I don't get the whole anti-Semitic deal. Maybe cos I don't know any Jewish people, but that doesnt stop it being an insult here ("Aww, ya f*cking Jew"). If theres one religion I don't agree with it's Islam, simply because of their inability to adapt with other societies and being stuck with very outdated mindsets regarding people who aren't straight men.

Putting my serious face on for a while:
I've put a little bit of thought into where this antisemitism comes from. We're all aware of the Jews being blamed for Jesus' death and the obvious answer is that it originates from there. Now the problem is that our society over the ages has accepted this as fact and has used the Jews as scapegoats for a lot of things. It's become somewhat ingrained in our society. Just think of the Jews being scapegoats during the plague etc. This is not to say that using "Jew" as a derogatory really refers to the Jewish people, at least I don't think they're consciously doing that. It's a derogatory term in the sense "asshole" or "Douchebag" is, no more.
Though I have to personally state that I find it completely unacceptable to use it as such. Even with the above in mind, especially that considering it's 'just another derogatory term', it does give a negative connotation to Jews. Looking at our history I would think we'd be beyond that, but apparently we're not. It really annoys me greatly when someone uses it in a fully serious tone. Shaelyssa, I know for a fact, is kidding. However when it's used as a serious insult, well, let's just say that the last time someone used while I was cycling by I nearly turned around and punched him (there's a bit more context to that, but that insult seriously pissed me off).
As for Islam. I don't think it's fair to generalize like that. As far as I know there are a large, large many number Muslim immigrants who have successfully adapted to their adopted home's society and culture. As far as I know there are also a great, great amount of Muslims who do not have outdated mindsets with regards to homosexuality, equality between the sexes etc. There's a great diversity in beliefs under the name of a religion. Islam does not have mindset X, Y or Z. Certain Muslims have mindset X or Y. While others have mindset Z. Same goes for Christianity and Christians etc.

Tbh, I think there exist more Christian Fundamentalists in the USA that cover what you just put Islam to be than there actually are muslim fundamentalists. The only difference it amount of guns and willingness to use them on either side of the issue. And information aviable.Lyniath wrote:I don't get the whole anti-Semitic deal. As for the whole "jew" thing. It's even older than Jesus.
Before "pre-israel" when they were slaves in Egypt they were different because they were the ONLY people with just one god. That made them strange and very different.
Same thing under the Romans.
After that, they SPLIT! Into those who think Jesus was someone, and those who didn't.
The first group became the dominat one. Since the romans screwed them over. (The Jews).
Then, during the "dark ages" etc. For christians it was "filthy" to have a jobb that circled around money. So for obvious reasons being a banker or things of that nature didn't work. So that became the Jews, which rose to some resentment against them.
They had a different religion. They worked with money. And, generally, because of that last part. They had it better than many others.
Then things like that has happend after.
Generally it's just been Okay to ALWAYS blame the jews. And in Europe (and by connection and heritage north and south america) it's a thing deeply ingrained in our culture that we should try to keep far more aware of than we do.

Well people here hate Jews because of their association with Israel and the Palestinian occupation
Also an interesting tidbit, the Bible has more anti-gay scripture than the quran does. In fact, there is actually no anti-gay scripture at all in the quran.
We all know your an American wannabe but you don't have to jeopardize your moral integrity and start befriending Israel tsh

I'm just going by what I experience, but I know what you mean by American fundamentalists. Back on my Gmod community I had a guy who'd occasionally link me documentaries, one if them about very fundamentalist Christian kids camps, and it was terrifying.

Yeah, this is definitely the main cause for resentment against Jews in the middle-east.Shaelyssa wrote:Well people here hate Jews because of their association with Israel and the Palestinian occupation
Obviously, the modern middle-east is quite a bit different to the Islamic Golden Age, but I remember reading in Bertrand Russell's A History of Western Philosophy that Jews were far better treated in Islamic states than Christian ones.
EDIT: Yeah, found what I was referencing to in a .pdf
- Spoiler:
- "After the first century, Christianity also crystallized, and the relations of Judaism and Christianity were wholly hostile and external; as we shall see, Christianity
powerfully stimulated anti-Semitism. Throughout the MiddleAges, Jews had no part in the culture of Christian countries, and were too severely persecuted to be able to make contributions to civilization, beyond supplying capital for the building of cathedrals and such enterprises. It was only among the Mohammedans, at that period, that Jews were treated humanely, and were able to pursue philosophy and enlightened speculation.
Throughout the Middle Ages, the Mohammedans were more civilized and more humane than the Christians. Christians persecuted Jews, especially at times of religious excitement; the Crusades were associated with appalling pogroms. In Mohammedan countries, on the contrary, Jews were not in any way ill treated. Especially in Moorish Spain, they contributed to learning; Maimonides (1135-1204), who was born at Cordova, is regarded by some as the source of much of Spinoza's philosophy. When the Christians reconquered Spain, it was largely the Jews who transmitted to them the learning of the Moors. Learned Jews, who knew Hebrew, Greek, and Arabic, and were acquainted with the philosophy of Aristotle, transmitted their knowledge to less learned schoolmen. They transmitted also less desirable things, such as alchemy and astrology.
After the Middle Ages, the Jews still contributed largely to civilization as individuals, but no longer as a race."

Haha exactly! It was only when foreign powers, like the British Empire, came to the Middle East and started imposing their law on them did all the homophobic attitude start. It was colonial rule that brought up the anti-Sodomy laws in places like India! (evil europeans)
There are a couple of hadiths (things people heard Mohammed say) but a lot of them aren't really credible since most of them were written long after Mohammed died and some go like, "So and so heard from so and so who heard from so and so that so and so heard Mohammed say this and that!" There's one hadith that says Mohammed said gay people should be thrown off tall buildings, another that they should be set on fire, beaten and then rolled down a steep hill, and another which said they should be flogged 100 times, and another that said they should be flogged to death ... heck Sharia is a total man made invention and Mohammed never even mentioned it ever

Ya they'd teach us that in Islamic Studies but I always took it with a grain of salt cause it felt like they were saying "Oh look at how well we treated and now look at how they treat us!! Evil Jews!"
There's also a few stories of Jews backstabbing Mohammed apparently and I remember reading a line in the quran that likened Jews who were given the Torah to donkeys carrying pigs :p
