Re: Shae's grand adventure
... wtf guys ... I'm really sorry about all the drama but seriously wtf happened here? Anyways I don't know if people are actually that interested in my trip or what lol I can't imagine why anyone would be but I've been keeping a little journal thing mostly for my friends back home but I'll post some of the bits here if anyone's interested. I cut it down a LOT, the actually stuff I shared with my offline friends was a lot more long-winded heh ... there are some pics too near the end if you're not interested in listening to me ramble heh :)
Dundee
St. Andrews
PICTURE TIME:
This is ALL of St. Andrews in all its glory of the grand total of three streets:
Street Number 1
Street Number 2
And street number 3
And honestly, that's why I love St. Andrews. The people there (ie. students or old people) are so friendly and the place is so small and quaint and it definitely does have its charm.
But this ... THIS is why I loved the place so much
Here's the St. Andrews cathedral, or what's left of it anyways heh
The "Haunted" Tower there: I wanted to go up to the top but it's closed during the winter I think :/ the view from up there would have been incredible probably
All in all, I love love love St. Andrews and Dundee and the medical school there specifically seems pretty dismal compared to St. Andrews. A lot of my friends told me I shouldn't apply to St. Andrews because it's such a small and apparently boring place, but I think I love the fact that it's so small and close knit, and I was talking to the medical students there and they did say there are LOADS of events and parties, even like sophisticated "ball" type parties lol.
I'd give an arm and a leg to go there ugh.
Next interview's at nottingham! gonna leave Edinburgh on the 5th.
Dundee

It’s the morning of my first interview at Dundee! This bizarre and combined feeling of anxiety and excitement has me all psyched up for today! I’ll be taking the train to Dundee so I just hope I find the right platform and the right interview place too. The letter they sent me just told me to meet them at the hospital, but I have no idea where to go from there. I’ll just ask the hospital staff there once I arrive, I suppose. Just hope I don't end up having a panic attack like I did on the plane to London.

On the train back to Edinburgh now from Dundee. It was definitely a very … strange day. On the train ride over here, the old and seemingly sweet lady next to me was reading what appeared to be a porno magazine, but nonetheless, it was a fun day.
My first interview (actually, there was ten of them, each seven minutes long … stupid Dundee) went all right, I think. Actually, it was kinda fun. Two of them were “normal” interviews about me and my personal statement specifically, two were about what I thought of the “opt in/out” organ system and the NHS (pretty much messed up that one lol “Uuuh ya, the NHS is great! Like … everyone deserves like free healthcare, yknow … cause like its not like fair to discriminate but … but not immigrants we should like totally discriminate against them … ya, we should!!! Cause they should like um … pay taxes … maybe … I think?” Pfff I researchd he NHS beforehand, but wtf how could I possibly know all its ins and outs EH AINT BR’ISH) The rest were all role-play encounters.
My favorite one was where I was talking to a friend who was skipping class, doing drugs and alcohol and I was meant to help drive him towards a better more healthy path. I felt I did pretty good at that one (I was thinking of you Corleth then, so thanks bud!!! … :} tihi).
One of the interviewers was Arabic or Iranian or something, one of my people basically (he was called Mohammed) so you’d think I’d get some extra points there, right? Well no, because for the life of me, I couldn’t understand a single word he was saying. He was the one doing one of the more difficult interviews too, about the “opt in/out” organ system, so that definitely didn’t get me any points … it seemed like I was the only one who knew anything about the opt in/out system though, all the other people didn’t have a clue which was a bit worrying (LOL as if, means they all sucked at that one so bad for them but good for me bwahah). Oh and I thought I heard him say “ma3a salama” too and I was like, “Uuuh ok, bye… ”
At one of the other interviews I was role-playing a pharmacist trying to help a Chinese immigrant with his prescription. I ended up accidentally making fun of him. “You take brue pirr in monin’ with food.” Straight afterwards I burst out laughing at myself and so did the actor lol! It was pretty embarrassing but in a funny, nonchalant kind of way and I don’t think that scored me any bad points anyways so whatever lol… I met him right afterwards and I was talking to him, he actually does have a real Chinese accent D:
The medical school itself seemed pretty bleak though. They’re building newer and hopefully better facilities though so they should be good, I hope. The guys there seemed really friendly though so whatever, the Dundee…ans, not so much. Honestly though I don’t really care much, I just want to get in SOMEWHERE as long as it isn’t Kuwait brrr.
I also ended up missing the train back to Edinburgh by like ten seconds so I had to wait three hours for the next one … stupid east country train line or whatever they’re called. Had a chance to look around Dundee though (that only took about like 15 mins though heh.)
I don’t have any pics in Dundee though because there’s … nothing to take pictures of (unless one of the other applicants I met there counts :} ).
And it’s SO freaking green here in Scotland. My body nearly went into anaphylactic shock on the train ride to Dundee.
St. Andrews

Day of my St. Andrews interview! Really excited about it, and it's sunny so I should be able to loads of great pictures.
02/02 19:30
I have fallen in love. St. Andrews is simply amazing. I just ... wow. The town, the university, the FACILITIES here, the people just ... wow. St. Andrews was previously my last choice, but after seeing the place for myself and going on the tour and meeting the medical students ... wow. I’m just speechless at this point, I really, really, really hope I get an offer from St. Andrews, like seriously hope so!!!
The interview itself went pretty well or I feel like it did anyways. I got half the time I was meant to get though to read a certain article beforehand though because I was called late. No questions about the NHS which was SO relieving! I don’t think they liked the whole mishap thing to do with my scholarship though because one of the interview started scribbling away when they asked me about what happened then lol but really, all in all, just an absolutely incredible little town and an even more incredible university.
The two other overseas students who were interviewed today was this cute little Malaysian/Chinese/somethingslantyeyed kid who barely spoke a single word and this other French girl who kept going “sorry wut?” every two seconds.
The facilities there are just simply amazing. Lots of hi-tech equipment and a great lecturing hall. Got to see all the prosection models which was pretty cool, but we didn’t see any of the dead bodies used for dissections cause of legal issues. Also, there was hardly any smell because they had like industrial AC systems installed or something.
The Dundee medical school is downright awful compared to St. Andrews’. I know I used to say that I don’t care where I get in as long as I get in somewhere, but GOD I love this place. If they offer me anything more than AAA, SO HELP ME GOD I will sacrifice seventy two virgins (and I mean sacrifice both their virginities and life!!!!!!)
Actually no, if I get offered A*A*A*A*A*A* I’d work my ass off to meet their grade requirements because they’re so worth it. I’m glad I have a scholarship too cause their fees are INSANE for overseas students (30,000 pounds a year wtf??)

Yeah there's really not much to take pictures of in Dundee, it's not really that much of an inspiring city to say the least.
Was at St Andrews myself back in Dec with Lilath too, was a nice place but half my trip was spent trying to find an open public toilet and the other to find somewhere we were content on eating food, ended up with her being far too tired so we somehow got a lift and ate at a restaurant over in Arbroath.
We DID get to see the cathedral though, or rather the cathedral grounds and what was left of the cathedral. I wanted to go up that tower too but the visitor centre was closed. . Would post pictures but she has them all.
TLDR= Went to St Andrews and didn't get time to see much, QQ.

Re: Shae's grand adventure
Ya Eira heh, sorry but Dundee did seem like a really depressing place to live honestly heh (no wonder you're moving to Norway haha) but I can't really say much since I was only there for a day and only saw very little of it. I'm seriously surprised at how poorly equipped their medical school is though. I mean, for being ranked fourth in the UK or something, it was pretty ... run down. I shouldn't complain though, not like Kuwait's medical school is all that great anyways (they store the bodies used for dissections in buckets basically. It's so amazing how much respect is given to the donations and the deceased's family here. At St. Andrews, after dissection the bodies are cremated and there's a memorial service and everything. It's fantastic imo and I really wish people were more like that back home).
And it takes like an hour to walk from one end of St. Andrews to the other end! How in the world didn't you get a chance to see it all haha :p pff. the cathedral ruins are nice ya, not amazing, but nice. The best thing about St. Andrews is the sea, I think.

No. DO NOT see the ship, thing is overpriced and the ship REALLY isn't that interesting. Can't say anything for the pub on the harbour though. When the hell were you in Dundee?

Even still. Anyone who's had basic Geography at school knows that Oslo is not even in England.
I'm too lazy to find the actual distance between Essex and Oslo, But:
Quoted from the internet:
"The total distance from England to Norway is about 705 miles or 1135 kilometers. This distance is equal to 613 nautical miles and an average flight takes 1 hour and 25 minutes to cover this distance. If you travel by road then you can cover the same distance in 12 hours and 50 minutes."
And Monrena: Quit whining and open a book.
