Blizzcon 2011 (October 21-22nd)

SPACE ALIENS?! Wtf lore lol! Oh wait, these are pandas that have excisted in Azeroth for 10 000 years. WTF i wanted more doom and gloom! This exp is BULL!

TBC brought us purple space lazors, both WOTLK ánd CATA brought us more gloom and darkness... It's about time we got an expantion with more perty colors and glee.

Good thing about this game; if you want gloom, there's an entire continent where you can be gloomy with your gloomy buddies. ^^

You know, the people who like pandas are being far more irrational and cruel to people who don't, than the vice versa.

Yeah, thanks, apparently we get to help the Mary Sue main characters be the heroes while we just stick to the sidelines. We don't care about Varian, Thrall, etc. We are the ones that want to be involved, not just backup for your shitty main characters.

Who made you community representative? I want decent lore characters, I speak for myself. Do you not think it'd be a bit silly in an MMO if everyone has suposedly done the same thing? We all became the greatest hero of all and saved the world *Hurray*. I'd rather it be a defined character ^_^

There's a point tho. Varian is extremly mary sue. Why the fuck does he need a squire, and aid in becoming even better? It feels so flawed.

I do not want be sitting at the side watching NPC World-Shamans save the world and get married. I do not want to be escorting these NPCs (most of which are extremely poorly developed, they are certainly not "decent" lore characters), playing second fiddle while they can do all the work. (ESPECIALLY when they're NPCs that should be ENEMIES of your faction, but that's a whole 'nother issue... <.<)

It's a case of the developers basically saying "our characters are more important than yours." That is a very poor attitude to have towards your playerbase.

What we should be doing is fighting alongside the major lore characters, as equals and compatriots. Not serving under them. WotLK was very good about this with its establishment of the player character as an integral force in the battle against the Lich King, until they ruined it by having Tirion Deus ex Machina the Lich King.

There are a few areas in Cataclsym where it's fine, too. Vashj'ir, for example, is very good about making the player more or less equal to the other characters in the story. Uldum, despite the issue of the Indiana Jones ripoff, is also an example of a case where you are an integral ally, not a subordinate who just helps the NPC be awesome (you do watch Harrison do a couple of cool things here and there, but you also get your chance to do your own cool things while he supports you. He sometimes saves you, and you sometimes save him. You complement each other, you are a team.)

Generally, the only time it becomes an issue is with the big major lore characters, like Thrall, Malfurion, Varian, and so on. These are the characters that the devs have boners for, and they can't seem to grasp the fact that the players should be equal to them, not subordinate.

When you make the player a "squire", who is just there to clean Varian's sword and help him onto his horse, while he becomes the bestest greatest warrior of all time, you are not complementing each other, you are not being equal and valued teammates. You are just a stepping stone to his own ascension to glory. That's really not fun.

And, more important, the story needs to focus on us, not them, because we are the ones paying and playing. They are NPCs, not the consumers. They should be supporting characters to our story, not vice versa.

I don't see our characters as Malfurion's Thrall's and Varian's equals. I would rather see Blizzard downplay their importance. They should bring them down closer to our level instead of raising us.

I never really cared for quest lines like Wrathgate and World Shaman either. I liked the way we were given small roles in big conflicts in vanilla. That our characters have a big role in every important event is a bit ... Hollywood? Mitch Buchannon? Superman?

I think the flaw is that blizzard is trying to reveal more about the important characters, but instead of doing it in any number of subtle ways does it by BAM giving them super-powers and super-positions.

For instance I really loved the bits with Tirion where you see him take descisions as a leader and a man, but the moments where he just slashes around are boring.

With Thrall, we could be looking at his dilemma between duties to the Earthern Ring and the Horde....instead we are forced to watch him play God.

Sounds like more money grubbin' to me this whole expansion.

Monks look cool and Pandas to some extent (must wait to see more).
Still sounds like severe case of greed. (TOR and GW2 coming out)

Well hardly a suprise yes, but cutting and leaving alot of content undone in Cata to rush out a new expac is more what I meant ;>

Thats one way of putting it. But isn't it really just trying to hide weak stories behind effects? The early parts of vanilla had many strong stories with out all the special effects or trying to turn the faction leaders to superheroes or popidols.

It is likely we will bring Illidan back, not so much for Kael'thas, he already had his come back. Arthas's body is somewhere but we don't really know where.

No. Everyone Unenjoys some petit part of it, complaining about that, and enjoys the rest. When singing in unison, this gives the impression everyone hates everything.

To be fair. I dislike -most- of the game, I just stay because the community here is lovely and a few I can only talk to ingame. And Scarlet RP is fun.
