Nithel, I am/was much the same with regards Fantasy. Whilst I will try and read almost anything I had more or less a long time ago given up on Fantasy. Most is drivel, longwinded, samey or just bad. SoIF isn't just Fantasy though, it's ... the machinations and plotting and scheming. And boobs. It's much better than it might seem.

And True Blood? How can you get apathetic to Anna Paquin's "charms"?!

The things I've heard so far about SoIF show that it isn't your usual fantasy setting. I enjoy a darker, grittier story more than the usual idyllic frolicking fantasy stories can present you with. I'll give the series a swirl first. If I like the story, I might give it a go on the books.

Nothing's wrong with Sookeh gifts o' nature! HBO's presents a full array of sexy chests both male and female. Nothing to complain about!

There isn't much frolicking happening in aSoIaF. There is some from a few Naïve charcters. But for most characters life is "srs bsn" and taking a wrong step will get you killed. Unlike most bad fantasy where a wrong step will just get you a new fancy scar.

The books are more about politics than about fighting. Should give a clear picture.

The casting for Bronn surprised me. Anyone who knows who Jerome Flynn is, or why he was "famous" in the UK might feel the same. But really... it works so well. And him and Tyrion, brilliant together. I like the menace but light heart.
