The game of thrones is infact the HBO series based off these books.

Yup, it is based off of that series of books. Game of Thrones is, actually and more precisely from what I gather, the 1st book. Each season will be one book. Congrats you just finished the first book ^^ Next up : A Clash of Kings (2nd book).

Brienne of Tarth?

I think she could work... she's quite pretty in a way. And Martin does describe Brienne as being striking - though other characters says she is ugly, I always kinda felt this was because she wasn't womanly in a "classical sense".

Well, i really thought that Dance of Dragons was a really terrible book. You could see why it took so long to be published and it just feels like half a book, with the first 500 pages supposed to be in Feast and the second 500 pages supposed to be... in winds.

there was no, climax..

it just felt like a book that had to come out in the wake of GoT HBO popularity.

and for an inbetween book until Winds of Winter which will come out in 2014 at the earliest, since Martin only has time to really start writing late 2012... is a real let down...

I'm enjoying them a lot. The characters feel more real. I also like how the monsters in it are more mysterious and distant rather than an everyday thing. Always bored me with other books how in your face all the 'strange' stuff was, to the point it got boring.

So far enjoying them very much, and heard nothing but good things about the ones I have yet to read.
