It's not done yet, though. The spears all need to be linked to the second lever in the lever room.Ezlbag wrote:you built a danger room!!!
That is so many times more awesome than a bear pit!

Anyhow really awesome post, its good to see you managed to pick up the wreck left by that last retard who ran that place!
On another note, all the soldiers are wearing full steel armor plus adamantine breastplates. They're all carrying steel warhammers, although they should probably replaced with bronze or copper warhammers since those materials are better for blunt weapons.
But what the fortress really needs is that element of danger...There are no goblins anywhere to be seen so getting sieges is a tad challenging. Sure, there are at least three forgotten beasts lurking around in the caverns, with one of them able to fly and thus go past the protective walls (that was the reason I sent the military down there during the year). (Un)luckily the beast wandered away almost as soon as it came nearby. So it might or might not be still down there.

I allready chopped down almost all of the forest so we should only claim a couple of their caravans and they will be properly pissed. Possibly killing their merchants >:F

Also according to a friend of mine who is modding the game, shortswords seems to be vastly overpowered and beats any other weapon in combat most of the time according to him.

It's DF player's best friend. I pretty much keep it open all the time while playing.

A brilliant year!
Also unless there are new meat to step into the game, I can take the next year or so. I cannot promise to complete it in a couple of days, but I doubt time's so much of an issue.
Unless someone butts in or you want to hoard the save, link/deliver it to me and I'll get working.

Orh, I haven't got the save yet... I think.
Sorry, it has kinda slipped from the mind.
Lini had the save, yes? I should be reachable by PM, MSN or whatever's the latest fashion.
Edit: Got the save now! Will get to playing it asap and after there's progress, I'll post the juicy stuff here.

Not dead, I'm just a slouch >.<
I've started the year, but University and other evening scheludes have kept me from playing. Also stonesense doesn't work for some reason (first it was because I had the newest version which wasn't supported yet, then I reverted to an earlier one, but it didn't work either!) , so when I post the journal it won't prolly have much of screenshots.
Sorry for being so lazy! I'll pick up the pace today.

Re: Dwarf Fortress
Seeing as our previous project seems somewhat dead, I'll start a little project of my own in an effort to rekindle interest in this.
First of all: Some Eluveitie. It's what I usually play when doing dwarven stuff.
With that done it's time to announce that
because I'll be tackling Genesis Dwarf Fortress. I do this because Dwarf Fortress is FUN.
So...Genesis Dwarf Fortress. What exactly is it?
It has:
- 70+ new unique creatures, 50+ new items, 154 new plants, 76 new trees, ironworks, material overhaul, deadly archery, lots of workshops.
- 9 Dwarf Castes
AND THEY ALL CAN/WILL SIEGE YOU. Sometimes in the first year.
- New megabeasts and other eldritch horrors.
All in all, there's more of everything and most of it wants you dead.
In addition, I will embark to a site that's as hostile as possible. I won't do a full report of everything the way we've been reporting the previous fortress but I'll make posts of important highlights.

- 9 Dwarf Castes
- Spoiler:
- Stone Dwarves: Stone dwarves are the most frequent caste of the mountain dwellers. They have thick skin and muscles and they almost lack pain receptors in these tissues. Also their bones are hard and heal quickly, so the frequent cave-ins they cause is not a big deal for them.
Jade Dwarves: Jade dwarves has announced their caste by themselves. They do not possess magical powers or twisted bodies, actually they are common dwarves. But their learning abilities and mental stats make other dwarves' to look like idiots. They carefully pick new members of their caste and share their knowledge and secrets with them. They often take roles of nobles and scholars.
Obsidian Dwarves: Obsidian dwarves have a spirit of an ancient origin. They can manipulate fires at will, summoning a sparkle to lighten their way or a raging inferno to punish their foes. It means that nobody wants to see them near a booze stockpile.
Ice Dwarves: The Ice dwarves' caste has appeared when dwarves started to settle glacier areas. They became so accustomized with the constant freezing wind and the lack of sun that their nature became to change, following the harsh conditions. With time these qualities began to pass to their children, grand-children and so on.
Shroom Dwarves: It is said that if you eat too many mushrooms and drink too much mushroom wine, your baby will be a Mushroom dwarf. These guys are extremely cheerful, sometimes even maniacal and crazy. They cannot learn as fast as other dwarves, but they can give births to multiple babies and they mature very fast. Their lowered vision doesn't stop them from trying to get anywhere you do not want them, just to see what's up with that place.
Moss Dwarves: It is said that Moss dwarves can live anywhere. While it's not totally true, they can be good settlers in savage areas. They do not catch diseases as easy as other dwarves and their flesh heals at a lightning speed, making them easier to survive in location with a constant outside threat.
Steel Dwarves: Steel dwarves are rarely born to a family which was blessed by a god. They take longer to mature, but they always become great heroes and strong leaders. Nobody saw a sick steel dwarf either, it looks like they just ignore any disease they encounter. Their body emanates power, and even deep wounds regenerate magically fast.
Aspid Dwarves: It's unknown what caused the appearance of Aspid dwarven caste. Some say they were some cultists worshipping a great snake god, some say they were affected by a forgotten beasts' poison. In any case, nowadays it's possible to meet dwarves which bear the mark of the snake.
Gloomers: It is said that gloomers are born to a family which was cursed by a god or an ancestor spirit. These bold beardless dark skinned abominations are paranoid and malevolent. Their body is weaker than of a dwarf, but they cannot conduct a disease and their saliva becomes a strong web when it contacts a surface. Sometimes dwarves say that gloomers are possessed by spirits of dead Giant Cave Spider. They rarely make friends and are doomed to be outcasts of the dwarven society.

Right Iron! DF is just trial and failure! you will have your first forts die from retarded mistakes like floodings, killing of your miner, killing of your miner by flooding him or elephants. But after that its really really really fun.
