Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
Me'h, lots of people rage and insult people who base there characters on Anime people. Im one of the people who bases there characters on Anime people sometimes. Do the people raging and insulting me bother me at all? Nope. Its not there opinion that matters to me, its mine. And if I enjoy doing that, I am going to do that. Im the one who's paying for this account so I plan to play it how I want. The people who rage and QQ about anime are only making themselves look childish, as they cannot except anything other then what they like.

Tbh, where people take inspiration from is completely up to them. We're all different and have different opinions in what is nice and what is not. The only thing I don't like is when they copy a character right off (as in with name and all that). But that goes for anime-characters, LOTR-characters and all alike.

I base them on them, with looks and some personality traits. I dont copy them right off. But I wouldnt have a problem with someone doing that, I still keep to what I said D:

Animé does not contain enough testosterone and thus all characters considered to be male are transvestites.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed a couple of animé series back in my time. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. But what freaks me out the most is usually the fans. Particularly pointing out to the cosplayers. Not that I mind cosplay, heck it can be fun, but let's get this straight: WHAT YOU SEE IN ANIMÉS WAS NEVER, EVER MEANT FOR REAL LIFE TRANSLATION. These costumes are never meant to be seen in three dimensions, and nobody in the history of man-kind has -ever- looked cool by carrying a three meters-sized sword around.
Not to mention the general sense of "otaku" has turned into something sick and twisted. Just go to Google, disable the filter and search for any animé-related wench you can think of. Then again, that's a part of wanting to be a wapanese I suppose.
Not to mention the fanfic. Then again, the fan-made porn and fanfic is often of equal standard to the typical kind of animé or movie-release, so I'm not sure if they can be blamed for that. It always comes down to some angsty, long-haired, emo punk with an Oedipus complex. These people ought to monitor their own fellow nerds.

Basing your characters is more or less taking inspiration as far as I'm concerned. I mean, I think everyone base their characters on -something- or -someone-. Its pretty natural really. Starting something off from complete scratch, not taking traits and ideas from already existent characters/stories/ideas is pretty hard. Even Blizzard and the whole of WoW is taking inspiration from old stories/lore and such alike.
And I'll take that as a compliment. I'm just simply trying to make people realize there's no use to try to argue about it, or try to force people to think as you, cause we're all different thankfully!

Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
I don't like anime all that much. I watched Death Note though (not sure if that counts as anime though?) and it was really bizarre and cool at the same time. To put it bluntly, that @?!#%" was messed up. Oh and I used to watch a bit of Bleach too but then I got bored of all the blood and gore, ugh!
But other than that, I don't like anime all that much. I feel it's really bland in general and all the same thing basically. They lack real depth most of the time, I think.
I never knew there was much stigma around anime though. I know at my school we have a clique that watch anime and listen to metal music and they're kinda bizarre at first but there's nothing wrong with being different.

I think the true issue is general bitter people who like to point out the odd isolated situation, make a huge deal of it, crack jokes and generally put people down when they know deep down the only reason they flank around their opinions like hot potatos, is because anywhere else besides the internet no one would give a flying frakk?

It's common human nature to conform to society's norms and push away people who are different, Madel. That's not to say that we should listen to our instincts like animals though, of course.

That's not a very fair (or nice!) thing to say. So what if people enjoy dressing up as anime characters? They're doing what they enjoy doing and they're not doing any harm to anybody whilst doing it. Clearly, you don't think it's enjoyable but what people find enjoyable is relative and subjective!

Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
Read my post again. I just said that I don't think there's anything wrong with cosplay itself. I've done it in live RP to some extend as well. What I'm not fond of are the animé translations that often end up looking like hell. It's called having an opinion. I'm doing something that I find enjoyable when I'm playing WoW as well. Some people find that degenerating or nerd-ish. That's their opinion as well.Shaelyssa wrote:Kozgugore Feraleye wrote:Animé does not contain enough testosterone and thus all characters considered to be male are transvestites.

You sort of did say that "what you see in anime was never, ever meant for real life translation" :p! And in any case, obviously people who are dressing up in these horrible costumes think they look cool, otherwise why would they dress up and willingly walk around with the knowledge that they look horrible? At any rate though, it doesn't really matter. I'm writing this my blackberry so please excuse me if I did mis-read or misinterpret your post :).

You sir have not watched Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann yet. It is PURE manliness and raw awesome.
And I find it amusing it's pretty much just Geldar and one or two more guys screaming ANIME IS SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! UR CRAZY IF U LAIK EHT!
There's good media, there's bad media. And then there's peoples tastes. Calm the fuck down already.
And then there's this.

Which was still my opinion for saying most animé costumes look awful when you translate them to RL. You haven't got the hair, eyes nor sowing abilities to properly resemble them. And if you -do- resemble them, you'll SEE THE SCARIEST DAMN THING IN YOUR LIFE.

What? Surely those aren't real people? They look like blow up dolls.

Those are real people in costumes. Judging by the shoulders. Most of them are grown men.

Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
They're manikins.
Also, I don't see the problem with anime (except some...I mean GOD! What the hell man?), it's kind of harsh bashing a style just because it came from a different country.
If you think anime is bad, you should see cartoons from other foreign countries.
American cartoons are hardly refreshing.
