[ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
Okay... it would appear there's quite a lot of anime lovers / haters on this forum and they constantly clash in offtopic battles against each other.
So what I purpose is - keep any and all anime discussions here!

Anime is like every other media. Mostly waist deep in shit, but sometimes you find gold nuggets of pure awesome.
But since it's from Japan, IT GETS WORSE.

My main issue isn't with people who like Anime, it's with people who don't,who also feel the need to bitchslap people who do. You think being roleplayers, we wouldn't feel the need to karate chop anyone who doesn't do or like what we do or like.

Manga > Anime 90 % of the time. There's only a few good animes.
Hellsing OVA is quite good.

Maybe it's the often found "x character loses but something happens and he wins and is more powerfull than before"?
There are some that I like, Hellsing OVA was quite sweet yes... and i lol'd at Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Hmmmm.... Guin Saga was quite awesome (leopard headed Arnold Schwarzenegger lookalike kicking as).
What I hate about anime's are the never ending flashbacks.

My problem with anime and roleplaying, when combined, is that it's just too easy to base so-and-so character on the character from this-or-that anime. I don't feel that originality is being practiced if one just whips out a pre-made character someone already created and claims their character "acts just like this character" or "looks just like this!"
i recall taking out one image and saying my troll would look like that figure, if she were human. I try to avoid using other people's images to describe my character and prefer to go out and ask artists to make original pieces of art for my characters. I do like the art style of anime, but got really sick of people swiping well-known anime characters and claiming theirs look just like that.

Hrm, honestly the ammount of charecters I`ve seen with anime names or directly RPing a anime charecter ripped off from some cheap japanese cartoon is quite disturbing or for instance what actually disturbed me even further was that several times I`ve encountered people dueling in /e or fighting or whatever, and from what I saw over the brief moments I observed these scenes of pure horror was that they were using abilities with wierd japanese names and yelling/saying different crap ripped off from some Naruto episode or whatever.
As for the anime itself, sorry teenage boys/girls wielding weapons 5 times bigger than them, abilities that could divide by zero, and just the fact that most of the entire genre is redicilous does not cut it for me.
Though on a lighter note, there are some quite good ones which I`ve enjoyed watching because of their pure originality: Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Hellsing, Dead Space was a somewhat good one if you enjoy industrial ammounts of gore splashing on your screen, Animatrix and etc. They shine like gold through the pile of crap which is the rest of this genre.
Jumping on the bandwagon:

PS: And before someone says we hate Otaku`s and that not all Otaku`s are bad.
1st. You aint one, you are a weabo.
2nd. Yes, every sane person would HAET them!

People get wierd over animé. And I'm not even talking about the people who draw porn of it.
On one end of the spectrum, there's these people;
And worse, of course. Some get truly wierd with their obsession, which doesn't occur that often with other media, except for Star Trek, Star Wars, and WoW.
Honestly though, I think it's a bit silly altogether, I mean the whole dressing up as a fictional character-
.... Wow. Okay, forget what I said.

Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
What Merandil said and adding this from a article I read a lil` while ago and saved since tis` good:
Most fans pretend to have a high knowledge of Japanese culture and language, though they have never been to Japan or even read a book about Japan, and can't even say the most popular Japanese words like "animu" correctly. They often attempt to use Japanese words (but at incorrect times, with the wrong meaning, the wrong conjugation, and the wrong pronunciation) and also pretend to like eating Japanese cuisine, their knowledge of it limited to Pocky, sushi, and Raymond Noodles, which they also cannot pronounce.
In some rare cases, a person can take animu in low doses, and still maintain some level of normalcy. A person who has been able to watch animu and still return from the brink may even maintain a healthy interest in Japanese culture without quoting shit from it incessantly, however such a case is very rare.

Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
I can completely relate to people who dislike seeing factors of anime bled into Roleplay, it really isn't the place nor time for it and I whole heartly hope for originality in every roleplayer I roleplay with. Sadly that isn't the case.
I just have issue with ignorent people, who once again call anime " homo " and generally crap on anything they don't do, or like themselves. It happens with tastes of everything, people, cultures, music. People don't like it so they refuse to let people enjoy such things themselves.

I think a lot of people hate weaboos more than they hate the actual anime.
Personally I don't have anything against manga or anime or anything like that, but I don't really keep track of it myself. Just not one of my interests.

Heh, reminds me of the so-called "true" metallists, whose whole dedication to metal starts and ends with hate messages like "RAP IS SHIT!" on youtube.
Myself? I don't enjoy nor dislike anime. Although I have a certain level of hatred towards the retarded figtging (Dragon Balls, Naruto... That sorta thing), and a certain level of respect for animes that aren't made for the sole purpose of keeping your attention (Death Note, Trinity Blood... Yeah, you can tell I only watch something I saw on TV 5 odd years ago).
Bottom line - generalization is pure evil.

I haven't watched anime in a good five years, I've grown out of it. But it still remains my childhood. Pokemon and Dragonball, Normal, Z and GT.

Meh, I watched some anime before some years ago. And the animes I've seen has only ever had serious emoness written all over them, or odd messages I never got. I did however enjoy one of them that was just funny through and through, and completely random. I like random-humor. Other then that.. I like Japanese culture and would love to visit japan one day, and I LOVE sushi. But that's about as far as my knowledge about it all go.

Re: [ANIME] A topic for anime discussion
Gantz
Elfen Lied
Gungrave
Death Note
Berserk
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Serial Experiments Lain
Darker than Black
FLCL
The animes I could think of at the top of my head that I really liked. The ones in bold are more critically acclaimed than the others. I urge you to make your opinion on anime as a whole after at least trying to see if you enjoy one of the good ones. Other anime fans would suggest other series I'm sure, but I personally don't tend to like the animes that try to be comical (TMoHS and FLCL here being exceptions), so this is just my list of "darker" animes that'll leave you with a weird gut feeling at least at some point through.
I'm fully aware that anime isn't for everyone, however. A lot of people are in the mindset that cartoons are for <12 year olds and can't break out of it, which I can understand from growing up in the west.

Good day,
Huh, So, Teenage angst and women dressed like whore originates from Japan and -only- exsist in their culture?
Face it most things are designed to appeal to Teenagers, it's one of the many reasons anime and manga is so popular. It's also the reason I myself and many roleplayers don't get involved with it. Does it give you the right to QQ, complain and flame at anyone who does like it? no.
We should be encouraging originality not trolling newcomer roleplayers who tend to draw inspiration from not so loveable foriegn cartoons. Haters gonna hate.
