Legion - General Discussion

I haven't been all that active on these forums for a good while now, but since I made the WoD discussion thread back then and then, I figured I could make one for the next expansion as well.

So yeah! Less than twelve hours to go at this point for all of us to get excited about WoW again/lose all of our faith in Blizzard. My expectations are rather neutral once again, not sure what I want from the game, if anything. Hopefully Blizzard does, this time around. Less Garrisoning at least...

I'm neutral and not really that excited. Curious though what exactly it will be and what they will present.

New class, demon hunters, could be very interesting!

At first it seemed all... meh. But now i am convinced that this might just be something fun.

I am as hyped as I have ever been for any other xpac. I'm ready. I trust blizzard with this.

Suppose we'll wait 'till 2017/2018 for a new race then! Hopefully two at that.

Still rather neutral about this. Have never been excited 'bout the idea of Demon Hunters, but not against them either. Elves being the only race for them, though, hmmmrff...

I'm very interested in what they plan to do, it looks very impressive, but we'll see as they release more things later on

I guess the WoW team's creativity peaked at Mists.

By creativity, yes, I guess, since Mists is the only xpac where they've had absolutely no established lore to go on when creating it.

What is it though, specifically, you feel is lacking in the presentation of this xpac, Erwt?

I just feel like it's choices have been driven entirely by marketing. This expansion idea feels like the ultimate piece of fan-service. I would have loved it 10 years ago when I thought Demon Hunters and Illidan where awesome. So edgy! So cool!

I guess my tastes have just changed over time.

Well I mean, just last year you thought the best possible race to add to the game was satyr, so idk if you're really in a position to be all smug and arrogant about your supposed superior taste in game dev decisions.

Second xpac with an apparent Val'kyr / Vrykul presence and Blizz still won't let me play as them.

I still think Satyr would have made a great addition to the game as a playable race, mostly because of their unique silhouette and great possibilities for (visual) character customization.

The fact that the lore kind of gets in the way is not really a bother. It wouldn't be the first time Blizzard retcons a few stories here and there to get something cool-looking into player hands. Most prominent example would be the Draenei.

I was hoping for something more light-hearted and quirky, like Pirate Adventures on the South Seas, but I suppose I had my fix of whimsy in Mists and shouldn't complain. I don't see myself getting too excited over this, but I'm happy many people seem to be getting what they want. Hell, it's about time they give us Demon Hunters - we've been prepared for quite a while now!

It does seem a bit cheap to have the Ashbringer removed very early on because "players shouldn't have access to that", and then suddenly give EVERYONE who rolls Ret Pali one. I think more of an issue though being some specs are gonna get very well known and cool weapons, while others will be quite "Uh... okay, what's this?"

Not really keen on the whole Ashbringer, Doomhammer stuff. Don't get me wrong, the concept of leveling a weapon as you yourself level is interesting but I would have rather have had my own weapon to build. Do old raids to gather different pieces and build something up from scratch, pick a colour scheme and name etc..... It would have been awesome to wield a legendary foam sword against the demonic hordes.
