Re: RP-PvP Campaign in May
Actually the war in the human areas, Duskwood, Westfall, Redridge, would most likely be about looting and pillaging resources to send back to aid in the reconstruction of Orgrimmar etc.
Unless the Horde suddenly started taking crack i'm pretty sure those sound horific reasons and places to go do that.

Wether or not you lament the reason is up to yourself, the places would be more important however.

Re: RP-PvP Campaign in May
Just reduce the amount of big clashes and focus on smaller battles around the whole area. A lot easier to keep RP on first priority, at least for my experience.
"Hey Red blades! I bet us Marauders will pillage more loot today. Loser will buy drinks after da war!"

Re: RP-PvP Campaign in May
Currently speaking with my friend from earlier about this as well, -almost- tempted to copy paste the conversation. But to boil it down, I'd like the smaller clashes to be the focus of this campaign (As I like to make new experiences in hosting events etc. See what works how).
This would be one of the reasons why we'd be spreading out over several zones, go give people plenty of opperturnities to clash while they're out trying to complete objectives.
Some of the things Im currently thinking on is how to manage the co-ordination and number balance between the clashes, I think Burgen posted some stuff in another thread of some arrengements Jeane did with some forsaken which caugth my eye the other day, might be taking another look at that balancing system.

A small example of a similar thing JP did with the DoL vs Cult of Shadow.
"Home bases (unconquerable):
- Alliance: Dalson's Farm
- Horde: vestments on the northeast border of Andorhal
Campaign points of interest (conquerable):
- Old camp: Horde controlled. (won in prologue 1)
- Graveyard: Horde controlled. (won in prologue 1)
- Writhing Haunt: being contested tonight.
- Gahrron's Withering: being contested tonight.
- The Mine: may be claimed by DoL if they RP it out tonight. (won in prologue 2)
Unused regions:
- Andorhal: phasing blocked.
- Felstone field: phasing blocked.
- Mender's Stead: neutral ground controlled by "Argent Crusade".
- Road to Eastern Plaguelands: controlled by the Northern Vigil.
- Scholomance: controlled by Army of the Damned
- Chillwind Camp: controlled by The Lordaeron Alliance.
Winning conditions
To gain a region, a faction must conquer it by offense and then defend it for another round.
Each region gained at the end of this event counts towards the Campaign.
Balance rules
- The difference between two factions may go as high as 30% in numbers... rounded UP. So if one faction has 8 players, they can face up to 11 enemies. Only level 85 players will be considered in this counting.
- If one side scores 3 consecutive wins, then the balance is turned by 10% in favor of the loosing party.
- If one side scores 4 consecutive wins, then the balance is turned by an additional 10% (for a total of 20%) in favor of the loosing party and the loosing party may launch an extra attack.
These rules are designed to give both sides a good fight, balancing both numbers and performance.
Rules
- The defending party may build its line of defense.
- The attacking party may attack only if an OOC ready signal is given.
- No player may be positioned on a location that's unreachable by foot! (I -will- be strict on this rule!)
- Landmounts may be used by all sides
- No ressurections are allowed. Only after a raid warning is given may players ressurect and reform.
- Attacks may only come from a viable direction. Check the campaign map.
- When a region is lost/conquered, then the winning faction -must- defend it the next round and the loosing faction -must- try to recapture it.
- Each faction attacks in turn.
- Each faction attack three times, unless balance rules grant one extra attack.
Introduction story
As the forces of the Forsaken amass in their base, a loud horn is blown in the hills. Shrieks and shouts come from the towers. The Alliance is attacking!"

Re: RP-PvP Campaign in May
If Deadwind Pass is to be involved in any way in the Campaign, I would really like to be approached beforehand of it, with my Guild stationed in just that region as the heart of the organization. While the Outland Campaign is a very good concept, I'd say from the perspective of a follow-up from Northrend that the Horde would want to march straight into the Alliance lands with their hosts afterwards. Though I might also be wrong in this. Anyway. whatever happens, I'll certainly have my Guild in it. Escpecially if in Deadwind, since then, there wouldnt really be a choice..  Â

If we do use Deadwind pass, I'll give you a poke about it. As said earlier, although in a bit jokingly manner, I do believe we could use something with the mages to lead us to Outlands. Although it probaly won't be the Arcane Cubcakes.

Great, looking forward to it! and yes, maybe if there are two Campaigns coming up as results of one Another (covering a large time-lenght, dont wanna plan a head too eagerly) maybe we could host this Campaign as a military offense directly into the Alliance, Duskwood and Deadwind, and perhaps Westfall. While I am not very experienced with organizing activities of this scale, I'll gladly be of help in some way, Lore-based or otherwise.

Ultimately - i feel that location is important - but secondary to actually having the campaign. People I talk to on other servers are a little bit envious that these happen - and that we can integrate playstyles - so whatever works - I will totally support. The wider the inclusion the better advert it is for Defias.

It may well be worth advertising the run up to or summary of this campaign and others on the main RP wow forums, for publicity.
That, and to rub it in AD's face...

AD is a PvE server. Won't they just be glad they don't have to wear a transmog to walk around in contested territory?

Complete tangent but AD's "RP-PvP" events are strange - they often have really low health limits (I think the MoP ones are around 250k, could be wrong) and rules about how often you can use abilities - it's often about one ability every 5 seconds.
This makes rogues, particularly assassination rogues really powerful as you can use a good pair of daggers and use otherwise white or grey gear to get below the HP maximum. With rogues getting a lot of damage from poisons and white damage you can maintain a passable rotation even with the ability usage limit doing far more damage than you should be for someone wearing (almost) only white gear pressing a single button every 5 seconds.
I'm sure some other classes can game the restrictions really hard too.
Doing this pisses people off.
That said they have had a bit of a move towards more normal unrestricted PvP recently according to my friends there.

All true, All true. and those systems confuse the heck out of me.
DB's strength has always been its tenacious, bold and all encompassing approach to W-rp-pvp events, and I think that if we combine that with the wonderful campaign threads alike to what Skarain produces, you have something very special.
It's what sells DB to people, and we should capatalize on that.

Re: RP-PvP Campaign in May
Agreed, though we should skip the Shroud of Concealment entirely, because those fights are just not fun at all. Frontal assaults are way more fun, lining up the troops to charge and making a few good scenes while at it too. That is part of what we sell people, preparations and big fights, RP and PvP, in harmony. That is what brings people over to watch our events, and later on join in as well. True, no campaign without its share of drama about this or that detail, but we manage quite good so far with what we've got. Lets keep making enjoyable events for all to see and attend to.

Never underestimate the power of a well timed mounted charge on the flank. That shiz wins battles.

Sarcasm is sort of hard to detect in written form. It's an intonation thing.
