The next big rp-wpvp campaign

Greetings Defias Brotherhood,

After the last few relatively succesful succesful PVP events, last of which, to my knowledge, was Tol Barad, it has grown eerily silent, at least on my end. When everyone was still brainstorming and filled with creative juice, we were told that 'a certain group of people were working on it', with opaque and mysterious posts like the following:

I'd like to know whether the rp-wpvp illuminati of DB has made any progress, and if not, if they'd graciously allow for alternatives. I've even been made aware of some secret Skype group in which these matters are discussed, which isn't making things easier on my paranoid and anti-authoritiarian brain.

Without the sass and sarcasm, my question is relatively simple.

What is the next big rp-wpvp campaign going to be?

And if there isn't going to be anything 'big', can we at least organize smaller-scale skirmishes?

I personally really enjoy these smaller scale skirmishes a lot, and would not mind to help organise them, but I can't help somewhat feel that there's some grand invisible plan that I will be hindering with any initiative. I guess at the core of my uneasiness is the fact that I really enjoy these events and would like to see more of them, even though I/we are being kept completely in the dark about them - there's nothing on the horizon, and we're just being told that "it's being worked on".

Regarding the "IC justification" clausule - I am a firm believer that with some creativity and hand-waving anything can be justified. The actual organising of events to keep moving things forward and having things to look forward to, should have the priority. Ideally, I'd like to have always at least one big PVP event to look forward to on my calendar. This is a RP-PVP server after all, and if we can't use the opposing faction as a primary source of conflict, what's the use in rolling on one of these servers anyway?

I'm debating whether there should be an RP-PvP campaign in 5.3 Many of the core Horde guilds are resistance, and therefore people the Alliance will be working with.

As such, I'm thinking it might be more prudent to do some joint RP campaigns instead. Same idea of putting everyone in the same area with particular goals in mind, but that those goals are not necessarily PvP oriented.

Unless the Horde has enough Kor'kron presence to make a viable opponent, joint campaigns are probably more likely than opposing campaigns unless someone has a good idea how to get around it.

As for the "small scale skirmishing".
That's easy enough for guilds to organize on a small scale basis between them. Just for people within guilds to make contacts and organize.

You can't have a joint campaign with the opposing faction. Such mass-scale cross-faction rp simply isn't viable.

I for one would consider it a damn shame if current lore developments make it impossible for us to have proper w-pvp for the rest of the expansion. That's bogus. Screw the lore, I want to kill some orcs!

I don't mean direct interaction, Thelos. Just think Jade Fist. There was a lot of side RP going on between the big battles there, with both factions doing their own thing on different sides of the map.

That can easily be arranged. Put faction A here and faction B there, give a good rationale for why both sides might be there, and let them have at it on their own end. If the two factions meet each other directly, then it will be dealt with then (either diplomatically, or potentially skirmishes because some people can't get along).

The only way I could see making it work is having 'NPC' battles, where each side trades off as playing the Kor'kron. So in battle 1, Alliance might be their characters while Horde NPC as Kor'kron, while in battle 2 the Horde play their characters and the Alliance NPC as Kor'kron.

Thanks for the info, Drustai. Guess I'll just have to be patient and stick to arena's and RBGs for now.

I don't blame you Thelos, its a shit load of work to plan, organise, and then make happen in a drama light fashion.

(It just kinda irks me, when people go: Hey where's my rp-pvp!? While knowing they won't be making it happen regardless.)

It irks me, too; but it would have irked me more not to have asked the question at all.

I think it has to be like Jade Forest. No large battles, but small confrontations while on patrol. Horde and Alliance still don't like one another.

Well you could easily have both factions RPing with one another. The likelihood is that most people won't understand the other faction's language (Though BElves/Undead would understand common). You could have the leaders interact with one another whilst the soldiers squint their eyes at one another, never trusting of the other side. Fights could break out and the only people to truly break them up would be those communicating with the other faction.

the point is more, there's a limit to real:ID conversations. cross faction rp is slow as hell. and with ~80 people present, its really not going to work one iota.

But that's just it, if only a couple people are communicating but we share similar goals, you don't need those 80 people talking with each other. I'm pretty sure the soldiers of the Alliance aren't taught Orcish beyond a few words.

It's a simple thing to set up. Two camps, the two leaders of both factions converse in what their faction should do. We split off into different areas to complete our own objectives. The lack of being able to understand the enemy is a bonus. You could have an Orc stare right into the face of a human and insult him, the human has no idea what he said but doesn't like the tone, they square off until their allies pull them apart.

Natures Grasp are working on something at the minute with regards to RP-WPvP. As with all things NG do, we'll let the Server know before we do things on our own to invite anyone who would be interested in some Kalimdor RP.

That being said, I am liking Vaells idea and will possibly be stealing it for my own use.

In fairness though Ixi, mostly when I read your posts I imagine you have death metal playing and lots of red bull about... oh and a poster with the face of guy Fawkes on it. It makes me feel less sad I am no longer a teenager.

On the subject of WPvP, even though I am a citizen of AD now I do keep to DB ways. Did you know in their WPvP you have 100k health and can only auto attack XD. Needless to say I found these rules hard to keep to.

The AD W-PVP events make me cringe. I was forced to do a PVP event with low level gear once because my team outnumbered the other and I left after 5 minutes. World PVP isn't fair and people who try to make it fair are doing it wrong

I just ganked til my arms fell off XD Then I was told off and had to do anti ganker duties which was more fun anyway.

Currently the mood is changing to unrestricted pvp \o/
