Re: The vent thread
There's some sillier and sillier things being said on both "sides" now.
Though I agree with some.
Primates: Often change between dietary categories. Whilst some are almost wholly herbivores (gorillas) others are not (orangoutangs are if anything omnivore) and much more agressively omnivore (chimpanzee). That's not a great argument by me, but it's not true that primates aren't meat eaters.
Survival/Genetics: You know we don't actually do much to survive. I don't type here to survive. I live, you live, most of us anyway, a relatively sedantary lifestyle. We don't forage or hunt and gather (as a permanent and sole form of existence). We don't even farm (most of us). But we do make choices.
Sorry, no. That's just as silly as the point you say is silly ("but it tastes gooooooood"). Tastes differ, and tastes change. But meat absolutely doesn't need all the things you say. Let alone cooking!
Culture/nature: I agree in part. Much of our diet (including the eating of meat) is cultural. Some is status. Because (apart from Shae in his desert tent eating locusts and licking camel teats) most of us live in a society where most things are "readily available". THAT is a problem. The market, the drive, the sell, the ideal. And the fact that people aren't educated, don't think and just consume.
I'd suggest anyone who can, and wonders enough to, to go rear (if possible) and kill your own meat. Butcher it, or watch it butchered too. It's moving, at times. And makes you humbled sometimes too. Does it make it taste better? No. That;s the prestige talking, probably (ME ALPHA ME KILL). But it does make you think. And that;s a good thing when making a CHOICE.

If you eat fruit, you eat some plants babies, everything is just morally wrong, maybe humanity should just lay down and die instead?

Ugh it's so horrible honestly ... we used to celebrate "eid al adha" every year and the entire street would literally just be red with blood. And you could hear the poor little helpless sheep scream and cry :'(
I still ate the shit out of it back then though regardless , brains, eyes, tongue too YUM YUM YUM. Except liver though, nothing's more disgusting than liver

... What gruff said.
C'mon.
There are plenty of arguments to made, and I realise that some people might feel so strongly on this issue that it might as well be about YER MUM.
But be civil. That ain't that hard. Think before you post. Or we'll have to start deleting posts, and that sucks.

Bet it does.Lorainne wrote:Meat makes me happy.
On the topic of eating meat.. Meat contains more proteins than you get by eating a bush of plants. The human body -needs- protein to survive. It's what makes our body keep strong and our muscles rebuild after breaking down. Yes, you can get protein from eating certain vegetables. They often taste quite bad however, and you need to eat alot more vegetables to get the amount of protein the body needs than just taking a bite out of a steak. Not to mention that our stomach isn't bottomless, we often feel full before we eat enough to get the same amount. Vegetables and plants contains cellulose, which decomposes
-very- slowly in the humans digestive system. Humans can't break down cellulose by ourselves so we take aid by bacteria. The human body can break down
-some- cellulose, but when we start getting the large amount by eating vegetables only, it can cause you great pain.
I have nothing against vegetarians, but when people start screaming "You're horrible for eating meat!", I just want to say "You're denying yourself the necessary proteins that you need to survive, you're killing yourself, which is an animal." Atleast that's what goes for the clueless vegetarians who feels exhausted all damn day because they forget that the body needs certain things to stay alive.
"Those poor animals!" ... Really? Those 'poor animals' would probably kill us if they had the chance, or if wasn't for the fact that we raised them as cattle, so they are tame like pet dogs. Survival of the fittest.
On another note, I FUCKING HATE BEING SICK WHEN THE WEATHER IS AMAZING. ;_;

As much as I do enjoy a nice piece of dead thing...
Really isn't the best of arguments defending a meaty diet.
The life we live, as human beans, in the modern age (and certainly in the West) is as far from survival of the fittest as possible.

It isn't as much how we humans live, it's as how we survive compared to the animals. Arn't we surviving since we are the fittest hunter on Earth and the other animals arn't fit to fight back?

Re: The vent thread
Nope, not really. We aren't the fittest hunter to have survived (or made it this far).
We found a niche, and exploded. We're terribly good (or bad) at what we do. Yet we've pulled ourselves out of the world almost. Yes, we could easily be layed low by the smallest of things (a virus or bacterial agent). But we don't live in a world of "only the fittest survive".
Look around you anywhere you go. And truthfully how many people you see are "fit enough to survive". And I don't mean against a rampaging hippo. I mean against something as small as a chicken. Or failing that the virus it carries. New strain of 'flu anyone?
ATCHOOO!

Nope. Exploded. Our population exploded. Plus we set us up the bomb.
Trust the Fascistic Elf to talk about exploiting! It works though, yes. We exploited our thumbs.

That's such a shallow view of the world. Predators aren't the "fittest" or the best because they're eating prey animals. Each animal has a role to play in the ecosystem and fills a very specific niche ... predators are as dependent on prey animals as they are on the predators themselves.
And even if what you're saying was the case and we're really "on top" (and we're not really ...), it doesn't give you a moral justification to subjugate and slaughter other animals (or people for that matter). Just because "that's how it is in nature" doesn't make it right.
(And on a side note, the human digestive system is much more similar to a herbivore's than a true omnivore or carnivore :D)
As much as I do enjoy a nice piece of dead thing...

Oh and in biology, the fittest in "survival of the fittest" isn't really referring to the strongest, fastest, smartest species, but just the most adapted one ... the common cold is hardly what you'd call strong, fast or smart but it still aggravates millions of people nearly every day and we've yet to find a cure for it
