[poll] Debate - Trollbane?

I cannot condone anything that would stop me and Maci shouting Trollbane Hooo! in guild chat whenever someone mentions the gurubashis. Keep it as Trollbane man, if anyone whines at you there's an ignore function available

Why is it any of our business what you name your character? You don't have to seek confirmation from "the community". If it was me though, I'd keep the name. If I was going to change the name, I'd completely change the character too, as in new backstory, new everything. But only do that if you're "bored" with him, not because "the community" voted for it. -.-

And what's up with your obsession with polls these days lol? :p

No arrogance here, however if people ever question my RP I do point out im the best RPer in the world. :p

Nothing really out of order as even though you are a Trollbane you are out of the line for the throne. Meh people should concider their own RP more than others.

If you were to lose the name perhaps the best way would be through a shame of some kind. Even a self imposed one.

I don't see the point in changing it now, really. You're Seiken Trollbane to most people now, and it's not like being a distant relation to Danath is that lorelol.

Stick with it, I'd say, unless you personally find it too much trouble.

In honesty, i committed the same crime when i declared myself a Bishop, would i do the same thing would i make a character now? ... actually I've never thought of this. Probably because thinking of this makes no sense XD

Unless your going to actually grow your character by abandoning the name Trollbane, it is a pointless thing to do. Changing a 7 year last name on OOC stuff... really? XD i still cannot see the sense here!

And even if you do for some reason choose to change it, Lolbane > Lionmane.

Stick with it Seiken, too much time has past for you to change your name on OOC grounds, and even tho when i first have seen you i was all like *facepalm* A Trollbane savage.....After a long time it became as a icon so stick with it. Tregan wouldn't follow anything or body into war, He follows those who made a name for themselfs. So if you are changing name it would be really odd.... You have taken the name a long time ago. And you have done the name proud.

I've got to say, thankyou for the very insightful and detailed opinions they've opened my eyes a fair bit.

However, opinion seems very split and varied to some degree's. and the poll is near even...

In my humble opinion - I'd change it. You could still be some form of Arathorian Noble, and if you need an IC explanation... Perhaps there was some mistake in the family tree?

This will be me speaking from a purely oldie retrospec as I took part in the Tziak/Sieken wars i think you should stick with it. Persoanlly because you have alot of history with that name and changing your name might smudge it slightly the wars of Tziak the God Emperor and Seiken Trollbane if you where named Lionmane it would seem odd if they ever got brought up ICly.

Just saying.

Now that all these opinions have been brought across, i think people can see the conundrum i have.

Some people think it wiser to keep the name. And some think it wiser to change.

And as i cant please everyone, i can only do my best and please as many as possible and try to adhere to some logic and Sense regarding Roleplay Taboo's.

In the end, i think most people Mark the character "Seiken" by his first name, now, he's renown enough by that. some folks just call gim "The Lion". that works too. yes, in my now humbled view, i think i will likely be having him change his name IC.

It's your choice in the end though so as long as you're happy with it, then whatever I suppose.

Don't just change it if this is your desiction. Make it so that he himself feels he lacks true right to Trollbane, and thus chooses his fathers name. or something...

I'd have stuck with Trollbane. As I've seen it, a lot of the people going with the 'change it' view are new to the server and stuff! So they won't really know any of the history and crap surrounding how our server rolls.

This, pretty much.

I doubt the majority of the voters on the poll are "new" to the server.

As for my opinion - not that I think it really matters - but I voted for the latter. Not because I think you should bother with what others think (enough people seem to have "accepted" it in IC terms throughout the server's history already), but because it's what I'd have done from the get-go. Still, it's clearly not going to result in a server-wide hate if you stick with what you've got by the looks of things.

I'm not new and I voted for changing it. :p

The reason is simple; whenever I see someone with the name of a character from the lore a huge alarm starts ringing in my head telling me to get away before the heavens fall down and destroy everything. To me being named Trollbane is no different than being named "The Ashbringer" or something like that. And it's not as dramatic as some want to put it, it's an easy change.

But hey, just my opinion.

"Trollbane? you misheard, its Lionmane you dolt, always has been" (actually i love this one ;p)

OR!

Seiken has a bizarre switch in fashion and now walks around with the mane of a lion hanging around his nexk..
"Trollbane? Nah, since his bizarre change of clothing, we now call him Lionmane, teehee!"

There are many ways to change things like names, personally I usually take the easy way out if there's something I dislike about any of my characters though.
Two examples are to simply ask everyone OOC to pretend as if said thing never was there, not really a difficult thing. Just a few whispers and it's done (Copy paste is a wonderful thing). Never seen solutions like that cause any harm either.
Another one would be kill off said character and recreate it with just a few small changes to correct what you think needs to be corrected.

Or if you want to do everything IC you can simply find out that you were adopted as an example. Your parents didn't want you to know and all that.


So yes, it's an easy change in my opinion. No need to make/twist things too complicated just for the sake of it.

Edit: Another thing, if you want to do it all IC you can most certainly do it in such a way that you can make some RP out of it. Not too bad, eh?
