Sorry Campers, you guys arrived just a bit too late. We'd just finished the memorial when you showed up and were on our way back to town.
Thanks for the fights though. Some people wanted to OOC fly back, but I told them to stay put.

I'll be posting my part of the service a little bit later, for those who weren't able to make it. Big thanks to everyone who attended!

Re: [25-26 February] The Battle of Shattrath Memorial Pilgrimage
Here is the order of service for the memorial:
- Spoiler:
- ORDER OF SERVICE
Officiated by: Anchoress Drustai of Auchindoun
OPENING RITES:
[Enter from Crypts, bearing the blessed candle. Move to altar.
Light candles upon candelabrum, then set blessed cantle atop center candlestick.
Have Thelos take candles to the candlesticks at the corners of the room. Sing entrance hymn.]
Entrance Hymn:
No deeds we've done nor thoughts we've thought;
Save as thy servant, we are nought.
Guard us, O Light, and O, control
The tumult of many a restless soul.
Ah, do not, do not cast upon we
The guilt of our iniquity.
Our countless sins, we say
Upon thy loving heart we lay.
Speech: It been almost 100 years since the Orc War brought devastation to the draenei people.
Though we had lived for thousands of years upon this world, a world we had named and where we had dwelt in peace, the orcish race chose to fall to demonic whisperings and shatter everything we had built.
On this day, we mark the anniversary of the Battle of Shattrath, the Day of a Million Martyrs. But more than this, we remember the millions more taken from us by the orcs across the entirety of the Orc War.
There not be a single draenei alive who did not lose someone dear in these massacres.
We all suffered. We all struggled to endure. It be a personal event to all of us, and we will carry the memories in our hearts for all eternity.
MAIN
First Mantra (Thelos):
We meditate on the glory of the divine Light;
may it inspire our understanding.
We meditate on the glory of the radiant Suns;
may it inspire our intelligence.
By the Naaru, may it be so.
Speech: Let us not dwell now on sorrow. Instead let us embrace who we are, what joys we have experienced, and what wonderful things we have discovered.
The greatest of all things be the Most Holy Light. Once, before the Exodus, we were blind to It.
Like a young babe struggling to understand the world around it, we had not understood that we, like all creatures of this divine universe, had been born of the Most Holy Light.
But with the grace of the Revelations bestowed upon us by the Blessed Naaru, we came to open our eyes to the Light within ourselves, learned to bridge our Light with the Lights of others, and strove to become beacons against the darkness.
We found comfort and warmth in this knowledge, and it granted us the strength and guidance to carry on when all around us seemed lost.
With the illumination shown upon our path, we could finally see with clarity. We made manifest upon a hundred worlds, experienced the culture of a thousand species, and drove back the Burning Legion at all turns as it sought to destroy us.
We learned how to express the Most Holy Light in all aspects of our lives—our art, our music, our food, our language. Gone were the barriers that once separated us!
United we were, as kin and family. Peace, love, and understanding for all, under the glory of the Most Holy Light.
Center Hymn:
To your divine grace we do come,
lost and lonely, afraid.
Accept us, oh our Blessed Light,
into your eternal glory.
Fear and greed we shall know no more,
nor doubt and nor anger,
nor longing or divisive thoughts.
In your grace, eternal peace.
Speech: As so many discovered during the Orc War, even with the grace of the Most Holy Light upon us, we could still fall. The Light does not abandon Its champions, but It also does not reign unopposed in this realm. The darkness exists, and it be an eternal conflict that we all must recognize.
The darkness itself is a cruel thing. It preys upon our desires, overshadows the Light within us, creeping into our very being until we have abandoned all peace and harmony.
Above all, it drives fear into our hearts.
DENUNCIATION RITE:
[Light a fire in the center of the room.]
Second Mantra (Thelos):
The soul who dwells in loving-kindness,
who trusts in the Naaru's Teaching,
attains to that state of peace,
the blissful fading away of conditioned things.
By the Naaru, may it be so.
Speech: If we are to attain freedom from the fear of death of ourselves or loved ones, to live in harmony and enlightenment, we must learn to give up those Hindrances that keep us from fully embracing our inner Light.
The desire to consume for our own benefit, to greedily attain or experience, be one of the most deadly of Hindrances. It be this that drives our fear. We cling to our lives, and to the lives of those we love, because we afraid of losing what we have, the attachments we have made to people, places, and things.
If we are to accept death, we must learn to let go.
[Drop a material possession into the fire.]
Only by being free of the desire for other things, be one able to face the uncertainty of death without fear. Only by being willing to give up that which chains us, can we all find peace in our eventual return to the loving glory of the Most Holy Light.
I call upon each of you, now or after the service, to sacrifice of your own possessions to the flame. To cast aside one small material burden and bring yourself closer to the Most Holy Light.
WORDS OF REMEMBRANCE
Speech: I wish now to speak more informally.
While it indeed the divine calling of the Light that we learn to let go and indeed celebrate the returning of our fallen kin to Its divine grace, we should also not forget them.
In irony, it is in fact the very compassion that we be expected to show to all Light-born beings that can make it so difficult to let go.
Millions died on this world. All had family, friends, loved ones. For my own part, I lost my brother in the war, and almost all of my priesthood. But more than that, I witnessed the grieving of countless others in my work as Auchenai.
Even as we wish to celebrate their souls return to the Most Holy Light, the loss of our brothers and sisters be a victory for the darkness, not the Light. For every Light snuffed out in this life, the universe becomes all the more darker. One pool must empty for another to fill.
We must indeed learn to let go. But there be no shame in feeling sorrow and regret. There be no shame in remembering and cherishing the bonds we shared.
We hold these memorials, so that we might remember and honor those who have fallen to the darkness. And remember we do. We shall never forget.
CONCLUDING RITES:
[Have Thelos return the candles from the corners. Set them atop the candelabrum, then extinguish them one by one, leaving only the blessed candle lit.
Sing concluding hymn.]
Concluding Hymn:
There does our dear family lay,
lost upon cold earth beryl.
Soul's bright grace shall no longer sing;
now only silence on the mist.
We should refuse our misery;
Lights of the lost be now one,
sent from all rivers lohn-el-ee;
joining now the golden sea.
Though, lament our hearts must do still;
we go on yet find our ease
comes only in the somber tombs
and broken melodies.
Speech: May the Light bring grace upon you all. Thank you for attending.

I actually wrote two songs, Shae, though the second one was shorter. Both are probably shit from a technical standpoint but oh well.

I want to personally thank everyone for attending. The attendance was way higher than I could have anticipated, and for that I am really grateful. One of my main mission objectives for this event was to bring more roleplay to Outland. This weekend we no doubt succeeded in bringing lots of players there. Here's hoping that some of these characters will bond with Draenor and find reasons to return every once in a while. We'll be waiting with adventures in exotic lands and sweet Naaru-guided redemption.
And yes! Perhaps the next stop should be Netherstorm, or Nagrand. We shall see.
Untill next time!

Um, if I recall correctly, Velen tried that once before the orcs...that did -not- go over very well and the orcs were barely able to restrain themselves from killing him on the spot

I still have some ideas for possible events and plots in Outland, but nothing on this scale I'm afraid. I am interested in exploring the possibilites of an actual military campaign somewhere though. There's two areas of conflict I have in mind. One is Osho'gun (Nagrand), which is a holy site for both the Orcs and the Draenei, and another is Tempest Keep (Netherstorm), which is currently (or so I have been told) in posession of the guild the Sunfury Elite.
Besides that Shattrath will for the foreseen future remain the home of the Naaruvada and the heart of Draenei spirituality.

There was a total of 3 hymns. The first one was one of Thelos', then the second and third were mine.
