Amaryl wrote:No, the idea is that you can rp with CoL without taking an interest in the ranking system, and rp whatever you like to be if you wish it so and you can still be apart of Col. or atleast that should be it.
Indeed. Everything about the CoL is intended to be volountary and nothing enforced. Everyone should be free to adopt/follow the bits they like and ignore the bits they don't. Any decision of the CoL applies only to the CoL.
And indeed. Which system we do adopt (if ay) is pending the decision on the 8th.

Just doing a quick write-up:
Pure Ranking System
Progression, ladder-like ranks for general priest as well as profession-related titles. Promotions are earned by making achievement-reports, profession-ranks follow the same pattern, but are much easier to acquire.
(+) Clear, straightforward system where individual's achievements in role-play are clearly reflected.
(-) Hard to cater to specifics of all races and guilds, making ranks human-centric. (in name, as well as in essense)
Pure Path System
A system based on several skill-paths, where the priest can prove his competence and learn any combination of those. Competence is proven by achievement-related report relevant to particular path.
(+) A very flexible system that is not biased towards any culture or languege.
(-) Sense of progression is less prominent, and it is impossible to say who ranks above whom.
Society-system
Ranks are meant to reflect a priest's standing in the Community of the Light rather than direct priestly merits. Contribution to CoL is main criteria of promotion.
(+) Race&guild neutral system
(+) Removes danger of rank-abuse and misunderstanding of how CoL-ranks affect RP outside CoL
(-) Does not reflect priestly progression
(-) Encourages hierarchy inside of CoL

I'd choose the "Pure Path system" to me seems like the best one.

I think JP's system is a combination of Path&Rank
There is main progression-course: namely for priests, and there are titles on top of that representing some paths.
If one chooses for Ranks, it might be possible to make them a little more neutral by using 'Cleric' instead of priest.

Re: [A]The Community of Light - date: December 14th
Pure works for me.
As to the ranking, Would a happy equal be to have a base rank, (priest, friar, pilgrim, brother, what ever the char wants) Then have a second rank that is something like The Venerable brother whatever, or the most peaceful father someone. The titles then are generic and can be tailored to what ever pure path is chosen. (venerable might be for a studious/wise path for example) Maybe just use any title to express the second "rank". It is again a neutral rank, can be space goat versons too.
The leadership of the college could be a vote and be a commity formed from any members. Maybe a few life postitons and a few non life positions. I stress that these will be the colleges leaders but are all exual with everyone else. And it is possible for a hotshot young cleric to be on (if voted) and Mr venerable not to be. The leadership and the "rank" are then seperate.
Any thoughts?
Or we could have some really cool system with smoke to decide! XD

Updated. A new session has been suggested. If it is a really bad date for you please let us know. If a lot of people cannot make it the meeting can be postponed to a more appropriate date.
I am also looking for suggestions as to where we can hold the meeting. Somewhere other than Stormwind city.
Also, please read through the points of discussion and prepare your group's view on them.

I'm not nearly as blind as to require such simplification, to ease the challenges of life just so my mind could grasp them. I don't need to recolour the world in black and white just so I'd be capable of seeing the enlightened path. My heart and mind are enriched by words and love of the Light. They resonate in my soul and whisper truth in my ears. Your glorification of your ability to draw lines where they should not be, with logics that bear no truth, is merely a panic reaction to cover up your insecurities and inability to accept that Light's ways might surpass your own understanding.
I heed no such falsehoods and accept that this may mean I'll need to remain humble... but that is why my mind shall remain open to wisdom instead of closed from the truth. The Light may make me feel but small man in a great world but that is why I consider its blessings a grace and in my humble servitude I shall accept that I must walk parts of my path without understanding, without simplified logics to latch on to, without even my own being, with naught more than my beliefs that the Light guides me. For that, and only that, is the true meaning of faith.
In other words: get your ass back here!

Faith is purest when blind and unquestioning. Why doubt the Light's plan for us all ? It appears Jp's closet Anethionian is coming out.

There shall always be a difference between a mind that seeks answers but accepts it may not find them and a mind that chooses never to look. Most likely that difference will be reason.
