That has more to do with the fact that crap RPers are crap, and in an under-represented race like the draenei, you have very, very few good RPers to balance it.

I don't mean to deny that. It's just a facade I'm confronted with. I would all for it, to have that facade improved and see RP encouraged!

Unfortunately, it's not something that's likely to improve. Sad We simply don't have the numbers, and the lore and culture requires too much effort, that the average draenei player just is... meh.

It's sad.

It's one of the unfortunate truths of RP. You can't RP an individual vastly more intelligent/wise/knowledgable than yourself. Leadership and other mental or social attributes are a lot easier to fake.

Agreed. Though I'd argue leadership is actually rather hard to fake. There's a lot that goes into it and it requires a charisma that a lot of people don't possess. You can fake bad leadership, maybe, but good leadership is hard.

Ohhh, it's not -that- hard, but there are different styles. The trick is to find something that suits your style.

But yea, I agree... A problem with RP'ing a Draenei is you have to be more wise. You could RP it like you are trying to break down wisdom to a child, and end up using rather high level philosophy (which is the child's version). I've seen some do it, and loved it.
But most of the people I've seen just go, "shadup humie! Me be smarter."

Truth is, I don't know that much of Draenei RP. I'm curious to it on one hand, but on the other I'm often more charmed by small underdogs and 'simple' characters that try to find their way in this big scary world Smile
Maybe if time permits, I could start that story I had in mind, but I'm not sure how far it could be stretched. I'm not even sure if it fits Draenei lore o.O

Yep. Sad Like I said, that RP abounds for all the races/classes (DKs are even worse in regards to how few good ones there are compared to the majority). You need to be able to look past it, and recognize the few instances where there is quality, and not get discouraged by the crap majority.

Draenei are outsiders in a big, new, scary world. Being 'underdog' or 'simple' is about the character, and less about the race, IMO. And frankly, going by the numbers, the draenei certainly are the underdogs. <.<

The best way to learn draenei lore is, simply, to roll one and start RPing. None of us who RP draenei really knew what we were doing when we first started... hell, for those of us day 1 draenei, much of the lore was impossible to find right away. We've learned as we've gone along. There was draenei RP in the original Exodus that I'd say was quite poor draenei RP, because we were all still learning. It takes time and practice, like everything else.

Here's a tip to seeming smarter than you are when Roleplaying an old, wise character: Keep an Encyclopedia on hand. And a calculator.

Trust me, it's totally worth it for the rare times when you need it.
