Defias Brotherhood Deviantart group!

As we all know there are several talented artists on this server so Strike of the Gurubashi has decided (about time someone had the idea!) to make a Defias Brotherhood server Deviantart group!

Basically this is where you can post your art, be it writing, drawings, paintings or even manipulated screen shots.

Because I know some that are not members here. It's just another thing if they wish really, for everything - writings, paintings.. everything.

in the "Post your artwork" thread, it would probably disappear in spam. And this is not Ziata'Ima's art, it is a group on DA for all DB folks.

Yeah, I keep getting them all the time too, it is making me nervous. xD

Llama badges were an april fools joke that was so popular it stuck around People just send them to other people if they like their art/profile etc.

Just thought I'd bump this as I didn't even have any idea it existed before now when I did a search. I was going to make a list on the forum which would be updated/edited each time but the only thing that seems to do is make it easier to find slightly. Anywho-

Also noticed people make posts to look for artists and this could be super helpful to them!

I dunno... DeviantART is a horrible place and these days a bad outlet for a persons art.

I just use it to dump my wow fanart. Seems like a good place for it. /shrug

That depends on the context. If you've, say, got a comic strip where one guy writes the word and another draws the pictures, it's easier just to call one the 'writer' and the other the 'artist', or in this case, a website where posting pictures and posting words are two different things you can put online and thus deserving of seperate names, to which aforementioned pair of words lends itself well.

So yeah.

The term artist is too broad nowadays. I don't consider what I do an artform - you can be artistic with it but it's mostly just entertainment.

I only use 'artist' when speaking english. In my own language I only ever use "illustrator" since artist feels all wrong. I don't do what most people consider 'art'.... myeh!

I think writing is a form of creative outlet - You made a story about a bunny who went to hell and back to save his loved bunny one from an evil cat tyrant- TADA YOU'RE AN ARTIST, YAY.

But anywho- There's much more on there like photography (If you search anything under that you -will- find some manner of soft porn named artistic photography, just warning you now) and making models, jewellry, cute little MLP plushies... So, I think it'd be a shitty site if it limited all types of art.

this idea of "Art" as something special is just stupid.

Ugh. no, i hate it when people call anything art. It's why I can't deal with fine art is in a gallery. I would like it to require some effort on one person's part. It's ridiculous that some people can put a signature on a toilet and it's called art (If no one caught that, it's an artist called Duchamp who's very piece was to question what art was. Quite fitting, huh?! ^^)

Anyway, I really do dislike this. If I pour my heart and soul into a piece of art and then comes along and sticks a paintbrush through a canvas and says they can do just as good, I would probably take the paintbrush and stick it up somewhere- I'm sure you get it!

Meh, arguments about 'what is art' are arbitrary and a distraction from the actual question of what is GOOD art. It's become a very broad term and that's fine, language evolves and changes.

If you accept this you can move on from the handwringing and make more important statements ie; I think Damien Hurst is immensely overrated and puts more effort into playing a caricature of a modern artist for the media's benefit than actually making decent things himself. Tracy Emin became famous for her least interesting work and is actually a fairly skilled artist OUTSIDE of her installation work. But then I've never liked installation art, with a very few exceptions. AND SO ON.

Personally I still categorise art as visual media and writing would come under literature, but that's more my own shorthand. Saying something is 'art' isn't a statement of quality though, if someone says 'writing is not art' that should be a matter of categorisation, not personal offence .

If it wasnt for that toilet and the dadaistic ideals that Duchamp expressed then the term "art" would have never evolved and be able to grow into the modern age. You need to question the old ideas before you can go further. Yes, its VERY dated to do so now and many who wants to question the term art like that today are simply kicking in wide open doors but you should NOT criticise Duchamp. And if you get offended that someone who works lesser than you gets more attention, praise or money then you are making "art" for the wrong reason.

And for this debate: If "art" is a valued expression by a being then writing is art for sure.

See? These things are exactly why I dislike calling my stuff art So messy, I like it simple!

That said, litterature is also a part of what DA holds, so no worries there.
