Who do you think will win the World Cup?
Re: World Cup!
Gabriel Delaney wrote:Ok? It got blocked. Standing in offside was never an offense, only when you get involved in the play.
So the referee did no mistake there.
In my eyes he did!!! And he always will! (yes I am bias )
ps. also he was involved in the game as the shot was aimed at him. I guess it's quistionable. Bit of a grey area. Both explanations go I think. It's debatable. The corner was a big foul of his tho. It hit the spanish wall.

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he becomes actively involved in play by
Interfering with play
Playing or touching the ball
Interfering with an opponent
Preventing the opponent from playing the ball by obstructing the player's sight or intentionally distracting the opponent
Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position
Playing the ball after the ball has rebounded off the goal, the goalkeeper, or any opponent
Call me stupid but I guess the last situation counts here then.
Re: World Cup!
Yes the whole free kick -> deflection -> goal kick business was a mistake but really....

Re: World Cup!
Lexius, the free kick that deflected off the wall not giving a corner was their own bloody fault for confusing the ref by recounting how far away the wall was.
Oh, and that offside, he doesn't gain an advantage of being offside seeing how the shot is blocked and he runs back behind the defense into an onside position to collect the pass from his team mate.
And Webb did a-okay considering how did all he could to -Not- kill the WC final within the first half by throwing at least two of the dutch players off the pitch for text book fouls.

Re: World Cup!
To be 100% fair, I'd say he is involved in active play and should be called for offside, even if he did not receive the ball at first. He was not offside when he -did- receive the ball, but the first-time pass was intended for him and he was actively involved aiming to score, which he did a mere few seconds later. That said, Netherlands should not finish the game with 11 players on the field. Perhaps same goes for Spain and I simply didn't see any phases with said infrictions, I'm just calling out what I did see.Bennedict wrote:Oh, and that offside, he doesn't gain an advantage of being offside seeing how the shot is blocked and he runs back behind the defense into an onside position to collect the pass from his team mate.
Congratulations to Spain, but it's blatantly obvious that Slovenia deserved to win the cup.
Re: World Cup!
The final was horrible to watch -- both being a dutchman; nailbiting my way through 120 minutes and for the mere fact that because of Webb's card-frenzy every player on the field felt obliged to make a massive tumble when another player got close. To me it seemed that the players on both teams were more involved with trying to get a free kick and a penalty (four Spanish players going down in front of the dutch goal to try and force a penalty in example, which to me is as much of an offense as the Dutch tackles).
That said, Spain won. Wether you agree with it or not. The Netherlands had plenty of opportunities to score the winning goal, but sadly they didn't. It was a matter of time before Spain returned the favor; and well, it being offside -- shit happens. My congratulations to them, anyway.

Right, watched it for about 10 times now, and he doesn't even look offside at the first one.
Stop the video when Torres hit the ball and you'll see.

Kinda close, maybe he is, maybe not. Spain deserved to win, anyway.

No it's not offside.
They evaluated using the computers *shrug*
Besides, with the amount of penalties, Netherlands were doomed anyways.

In the match, they only showed the pass before the goal.

Aye, rewatched it closely and he's not on the first either. At first glance it seemed as if the first try was offside, and it's become tiring that everyone skips to the second pass (which is clearly not offside) with a "but it deflected!!1!1!!" argument. Deflected or not, it's active play, if he was offside it should be flagged, period.
Also, to clarify; reason it seemed offside on the first pass was his arm behind the offside line. However:
Further clarification: this is, ofc, my opinion Regulations state "A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play"
Also, to clarify; reason it seemed offside on the first pass was his arm behind the offside line. However:
“nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of a player’s
head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the
ball and the second-last opponent. The arms are not included in this
definition

Being a ref myself, I am 99% sure that not a linesman in the world would disagree that he is not offside in the second one had he been offside in the first attempt when the ball is deflected.
Due to the fact that although he is active, he has no direct impact on the ball, play, goalkeeper or any other asset of the game. The dutch defender should've paid attention rather than just stood there and allowed for Iniesta to run completely free into that (HUGE!) gap in between the two defenders.
I've talked to the faroese FIFA ref and he completely agrees with me on this, sooo I win

One extra note. Congratulations to Spain. Their victory was deserved, seeing the amount of fouls holland made, especially Nigel de Jongs was nasty, hope he gets kicked out the national team.
Doesn't take away that the referee whistled badly. Holland and the referee had a bad match. All glory to Spain! European and World Champion! It's nice for them. They played good football for years but never could get to the prices. Now twice in a row. Awesome.

That front kick was epic, I don't know why people are making such a fuss about it.

Re: World Cup!
1. You dont need computers to judge the offside its not a matter of needing to see if they are on one line.
2. 10 cards for holland, stop complaining they were too rough. They got punished for it.
3. I DONT EVER WANNA SEE PEOPLE KICKING A ROUND BALL AGAIN, FOOTBALL SUCKS STUPID GAME

Doesn't look like Nigel de Jong at all. Also didn't saw any blood. He did gasp for air tho. Nasty foul. Should have gotten red for it. I hope we will leave Nigel de Jong at home next tournament.

De Jong is a nasty unsportive player, my fouvourite players were Bronckhorst, Kuyt and Van Stekelenburg. De Jong scores high on my least favourite players list. (Edit) Sure he solid however he made nasty fouls and didn't mind breaking any rules (or peoples bones) instead of focussing on using his skills.

I doubt anyone whom is into football thinks of it as an awesome ninja-kick.
Just sayin'
Shame the final turned out to be a horrible match.
