Who do you think will win the World Cup?
World Cup!
So it begins on Friday, who do you think will win? You could post your reason if you like.
Please note this not a "vote for your favourite country", though can say who you want to win in a separate post.
I am voting for Spain to win as their team is the best at the moment, although I want England to even though they wont.. :'(
[Note] Chile and Honduras are not on their as only 30 options are allowed.

Spain, just look at that midfield.
Capdevila, Fabregas, Alonso Jesus Navas, David Silva, Javier Martinez, Juan Mata, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
Deadly!

Re: World Cup!
Anybody except England has the possibility of winning. *nod*
Not because I'm Scottish and all that...but really, their faith in their own team is HORRENDOUS! There's so many contests that are like "every goal England scores, you get £10!" or "bet this and that and if England win, you get your money back!" crap.
Shows how much faith they have when they start giving money away for possible goals.

Because our team is a shambles! We only have a consistent midfield, everywhere else is trying to fill in the void of retired veterans. Bring back Seaman and Shearer tbh...

England seriously needs to start producing some youth talent.

Re: World Cup!
I would say the Netherlands, but that's me being too hopeful.
I'd jump on the band wagon and say Spain if I'd want to be realistic though.

Re: World Cup!
You know some are so pathetic that they have to fake their own injuries?
And I mean REALLY fake it! Not like rolling around on the ground screaming but using a blood capsule to make it look like they were injured >.>"
I think the problem England have is there's not enough encouragement towards the younger generation players, but instead looking overseas for players when really they're supposed to have a team where people are ENGLISH! Half of them probably aren't even close to English!

Re: World Cup!
just wait until 2015 - 2/3's of the players on the senior team will have homegrown (Meaning 2/3's have to be english players for the english teams.)
It starts already by 2012, 1/3 has to be homegrown.

Yeah, I'd go for Netherlands aswell if I were to judge from the results and their performance right now, but they have a poor habbit of screwing up after they win the group play.Kozgugore Feraleye wrote:I would say the Netherlands, but that's me being too hopeful.
Whoever voted Denmark, uh, that would have to be a surprise, cause they're playing really bad at the moment.
Also, will be fun to watch South Korea again, as they surprised everyone back in 2002 and played nice.
And at last, I would love to vote for France, but without Zidane I feel it's kind of pointless.

Re: World Cup!
England have just as good a chance as any other team. Amazing that the other teams consider England to be one the favourites but obviously Brazil and Spain are ahead of them. I reckon they just say that though to take the pressure off themselves!
But imo Spain wont win it. It wasnt long ago when they were considered the under achievers at every tournament and also they were knocked out of the Confeds cup by the USA not long ago, so it goes to show that team working well together can beat em.
My bet is on either Holland or Argentina though. Holland won all their qualifying games and have players in form and Argentina have the type of squad that will simply perform at the top level at a tournament.
As for the youth thing, England under 21s are good. Plenty of talent out there but people just like to moan about something when we lose. No doubt somebody will suggest banning foreign players in the Premiership because England were knocked out lol

Re: World Cup!
Argentina has the shittiest trainer of the tournament though. Underachieving ever since he took the lead. Holland usually wins their group matches with verve, but then gets overconfident and gets 2-1ed by some underdog like russia.
Brasil might perform decent though, though spain is still highest on my list.

Re: World Cup!
Thats why I think rather than actually having a tactical plan from the midget junkie that they will simply play as they want to, so simply put their talent will put them through. Got great players in their starting line up.
*shrug* I think Holland can go far, always enjoyable to watch regardless.

Argentina has Maradona, that's enough to effectively exclude them from gaining any honours.
I haven't really had a look at the Holland squad, but I can speculate that they'll probably mess it up against some low rep team that are determined to get a result against a "big" team.

Going for dark horses is a lot more fun than everybody touting Spain.
I also still believe England can do it of course but a bit more sceptical when some people in the media say its the best squad weve had in years because it looks like the same team from the 2006 world cup more or less. Plus we say it every tournament!

Ey ey ey...
Just cause I'm touting Spain to lift the World Cup, doesn't mean I'm cheering for them, myself I usually cheer for the germans

Re: World Cup!
Spain also won all their qualifiers, Mau
But England do have a chance, providing Germany win their group and Serbia do crap as to not progress to the second round. Then its an almost inevitable quarter final against a poor French side, giving us a good chance of reaching the semi finals. However then we must face our nemesis' the argentinians or the germans.
Out of all the group setups I think we have the best one, as the only real threat in the lower stages is France which as I said have been performing badly recently (only qualifying thanks to a handball, some tips from Maradickheada there..)

Re: World Cup!
We did annihilate Hungary with 6-1.
Option 3: A big surprise in the tournament, like greece in the 2004 EC.
