Re: Know thy crimes! Know thy sins! Can thou reach Heaven?
We are working on a NEW list of sins. It is expanded and elaborated. Still missing some, so suggestions are welcome.
Also need help resolving a theological 'inconvinience'
The Chapter does not provide religious services to non-humans, therefore if a non-human commits a sin that does not break the secular Law the Chapter cannot deounce it and try to 'punish' the non-human because the only the Light can punish sins, the Chapter can only provide a path to atonnement. So the filthy Xenos have free license to claim that Anethion IS, after all, enlightened by a Naaru

- Spoiler:
A sin is that which is abhorrent to the Holy Light. A sin is wound on the soul that exposes it to the damning influence of evil and weakens faith against corruption. When winds of Nether blow, it are the sinners who turn first to embrace the demons. Every sin is a pestilent wound that will fester and consume the soul until it is purified. Only the purveyor of sin can cleanse himself, servants of the Church only expedite the process and assist – yet they cannot absolve sins against the will of the sinner.
Expressions of the Sin
Word : these sins are expressed in words spoken or written by the sinner and are the lightest of them all. An oath of Silence, a public recantation and denunciation, an apology and a tasking are often enough to root out these sins.
Deed : these sins are expressed in deeds performed by the sinner and may be heinous indeed. Deeds often lead to Crimes, and in those cases the Laws are to be obeyed to the letter and willing surrender and confession to the authorities is an indispensable prerequisite for atonement, as is the request for full and unmitigated sentence. Atonement itself usually takes the form of a performance of the deed opposite to the sinful deed or measures to make repetition impossible.
Thought : these sins are expressed in the thoughts of the sinner and are the hardest to root out. The sinner is expected to recant his views and publically denounce his flaws and weaknesses as a prerequisite to repentance and should eagerly accept the scorn and mockery of others. Atonement will usually take the form of undertaking deeds which are the result of thoughts and states of mind opposite to the sinful one and displays where the sinner will face the scorn and ridicule of others.
The steps that must be taken before a Sin can be absolved:
1. Repentance : the sinner must realize the nature of his sin, and feel guilty for it
2. Confession : the sinner must let his sin be known to one guided in the ways of Faith
3. Penance: the sinner must accept the punishment for his sins as imposed by one guided in the ways of the Faith. Sometimes confession is enough, sometimes penitence is mild like prayer or even a promise, but sometimes it is harsh. Sometimes penitence takes a lifetime to achieve.
4. Absolution: when penance is completed and the sinner believes he is worthy of forgiveness, one guided in the Faith may absolve the sin and free the soul from its corruption
5. Forbearance: the sinner must abstain from repeating the absolved sin, for committing it again would make that sin much graver; most heinous sins that are repeating become Irredeemable, creating an incurable wound upon the soul which all but marks the sinner hellbound.
(W,D,T) stand for word, deed and thought respectively.
All sins in every classification are organized from the most heinous to the least wicked.

Re: Know thy crimes! Know thy sins! Can thou reach Heaven?
It is clear that anybody outside of the Chapter is a sinner, so lets look at the sins of a man one would expect to be a Saint by Chapter's standards.....
Baron Dragomir Iretongue:
Intellectual Arrogance : he attempted to prove rationally that the Light is good
Usurpation : he listened to confessions and forgave sins! (Mostly because Lector-rank didn't exist back then)
Sacrielege: he shot an oathbreaker inside the Cathedral
Interracialism: he used help of a Priestess of Elune to fight Ireth, he defeated Ireth with a druidic weapon ...not some Blade of Pure Light
Deception: he pretended not to be Dragomir when dressed as a High Inquisitor to keep his position as a Judge
Wrath: he almost shot a Disciple in anger because the Disciple said that damaging church property wasn't a crime
Arrogance: ..he was just an arrogant man
Luxury: he -loved- big oak tables and comfortable chairs
Vanity: he was overly obsessed about his awesome blonde hair
and about all the Venial Sins in the 'Purity' section
I think that Dragomir isn't in Heaven, watching over the Faithful...but in Hell, acting as Sargeras' right hand or something

They can't though, as it would be a heresy and heresy is a crime according to the Witchbane. What must be separated is 'sins' and 'crimes'. Sins are mainly what the Clergy deal with in confession, whereas crimes are what the Inquisition aim to stop.Melnerag wrote:The Chapter does not provide religious services to non-humans, therefore if a non-human commits a sin that does not break the secular Law the Chapter cannot deounce it and try to 'punish' the non-human because the only the Light can punish sins, the Chapter can only provide a path to atonnement. Pride is split up into other sins. but will add it to make it more EXPLICIT!
And no, the Funeral Rite does not absolve you of the sins. Sorry. DEATH WON"T SAVE YOU FROM LIGHT"S JUST VERDICT!

If the person is an Anethionean, yes.Lexgrad wrote:Also doesnt the Anethionean funeral rite of burning absolve you of all sins?
If the person is a believer in the Light, it absolves venial sins and then its the Light that judges whether the person is pure.
If the person is unrepentant (i.e does not believe in the Light), it just sends them straight to the Light to be judged.
If the person is a real baddy then they're excommunicated before death and sent straight to the Nether.
That's my unofficial take, time to to write an essay on it and make it Anethionean doctrine!

Greagoir is a pretty strict and puritanical fellow. Let's see what he's done.
Admittedly, most of these are from when he was still a kinda new character. He's still pretty harsh though.
- Spoiler:
- Harshness - He's been pretty harsh to Aadaria and a couple of Witch-Hunter's in the past.
Insult - Kind of goes with the harshness.
Wrath - He can just be an angry dude at times.
Thinking Poorly - The Council. Nuff' said.
Wishing Harm - The Horde.
