The Dusty Jungles - RP-PvP Campaign, 9-17.7
The Dusty Jungles Campaign is a 9 day long RP-PvP Campaign located in Gorgrond of Draenor. The theme of the Campaign is to secure resources from Gorgrond to be sent to the Shipyards and further on from there to Tanaan Jungle to fuel the war effort. Thing is, the factions are unaware that they both had the same intention and we all know how good the Alliance and the Horde are to "share"...
The Campaign is led purely based on In-Character decisions. There is no pre-set "plan" how things will turn out. Cunning strategies developed by the leaders and individual alike will decide the outcome of the Campaign.
Campaign Organizers:
Skarain - Main organizer (Skarain#2346)

- Information:
- What is a RP-PvP Campaign?:
- For those unfamiliar with the concept RP-PvP Campaigns, they are large events during which armies of Alliance and Horde gather in a zone out in the world to wage war against each other in World PvP Combat for Story-based reasons. They can be fighting for resources, objectives or the control of the zone as a whole.
Despite the presence of WPvP Battles, Roleplaying is on an equally important part. Armies will gather, commanders will meet, plans are made and swords are sharpened in the camps as bases of the factions. Great roleplay often commence at those camps between battles, as groups that may normally never see or interact with eachother meet.
Battles
Battles and skirmishes can be initiated by anyone in the warzone. They can be as simple as troops running into eachother and proceed into bashing eachother skulls. Alternatively battles may be organized to fight for objectives: The control of a bridge, clashes in a Mines, fighting over salvage material or an attempt to raid another side lumber cutting operations.
The Organizers of the Campaign will seek to organize a number of later and smaller battles, but player initiative is encouraged as well. It is perfectly fine to contact someone on the other faction and set up a fight yourself. Or spontaneously go and roam the wilds in hope of prey.
A recommended group size is 10 players (or less). WPvP is it best when done in small scale.
Roleplayed Actions
Players are encouraged to work for PvE objectives on the side of WPvP, or during downtime between battles. This can be actions as simple as to fortify their camps, scout the wilds, cut some timber, search for artefacts, assault the remnants of Blackrock Clan, hijack trains, "loan" Iron Horde cannons or anything else their character view that might be beneficial for the conflict (or otherwise worth doing).
In past Campaigns there have been things such as a Frostwyrm attacking Horde base, Zeppelins being hijacked, thrones stolen, bridges blown up, tunnels dig to "backdoor" a base and Forsaken plague lobbed towards. You to have the freedom to create these kind of DMed "attack" against the other faction as result of your PvE actions, as long as you have a mean to communicate it through to the other side.
Can we conquer areas for ourselves?
Technically, you can. Practically, no. Gorgrond is a region in constant motion due to the eternal war between the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. A mining shaft will require constant defending from the Goren and an area cut clear of trees will likely be regrown back in the morning by the Botani. As result, players effort is unlikely to have a lasting change in the appearance of the zone.
A much better method is simply to take whatever that you can carry with you back to your camp, be it a Titan artefact or metal salvaged from the remnants of the Blackrock Clan.
Camps and attacking Camps
A Faction Camp is whichever location a group of Players have decided to set camp to roleplay at while being in the warzone. This can be an an actual Camp (with flight master and all), but it can also be a Cavern in a completely random location or a hut in the middle of nowhere.
Since Gorgrond is a max-level zone, and we have no means of asking every player going through the zone avoid attacking camps, you should be prepared to defend your camp. A recommended way to do this is to put up Guards; Actual players/roleplayers who stand by the border of the Camp, looking out for threats, to be the first persons to engage should an attack from Roleplayers or "Adventurers" commence at the camp.
When/If attacking camps, please try to engage with the guards first instead of going deeper into the camp at those who potentially have had enough PvP for the evening already. That way, everyone will get the most fun out of the Campaign.
(Since we have no mean to actually make you to do so, consider this a polite request)
PvP Guidelines:
-PvP is considered to be In Character.
-Nukes, Garrison abilities, Engineering creations and any other toys are allowed. (but do not need to be considered In Character)
-Do not Corpsecamp. (Once your victory is assured, back off a little to give the other side time to resurrect and heal. We will get more enjoyable battles out that way.)
-Avoid ressing during combat. (Once you die, please stay dead until your side is clearly defeated. This is to make it easier to visualize which side actually won the battle.)
-No flying mounts during battles. (While using a flying mount to scout is perfectly fine, an entire aerial raid on top of your foes head gives little room for tactics, utterly nullifies any meaning with positioning and does not look 'anywhere as good' on Video as two armies charging eachother on ground does.)
-Transmogrifying your best gear, PvE or PvP into your Roleplaying set. (should you wish to live, that is...)
Addition: Ressing in your own faction camp is allowed (If you get killed in your faction camp, you can ress/combatress/corpserun freely. This is to reflect the fact that your camp likely have more reinforcements at it than the attacking group)
Mind: Not everyone out in the world will abide to these guidelines. They may either not have read this thread, be otherwise informed or simply do not care. For the same reason the guidelines are largely built with the idea that "anything goes". We can not nor will not try to control everything, but we do hope that as many would follow these guidelines for the conflict to be enjoyable for everyone.
Afterword
As a RP-PvP Campaign, you come prepared with the possibility that you may be attacked by anyone at any time. Even outside of the actual organized battles. Treat the place as a Warzone, in where there may be a Rogue hiding in every bush eager to backstab you the moment you take off your breastplate. Even (and especially) when you are about to rest in the middle of your faction camp.
Not every player in the zone may be a roleplayer, but we hope that you treat every player as one, both in PvP and in meeting a traveller of your allied faction. Even if their original purpose was not to be in the zone for the Campaign, it is an opportunity to get them interested of roleplaying and RP-PvP. That is how the community grows.
Lastly, as an experiment on including other players to the RP-PvP Campaigns who normally do not roleplay, around halfway through the 9 days of Campaign, the Campaign will be made known on Realm Forums/Trade/Public Channels. IC this is explained by the conflict escalating and the word of it reaching the faction capitals to Ashran. Until that, we intend to remain "hush hush" about it, but certainly welcome anyone who happens to wander to the zone, is curious of roleplaying or hear of it from their friends.- Guilds that have been contacted about the Campaign:

11.7 - Horde: Saberon Allies? & Alliance: Scouting the Wilds
The Horde will attempt to negotiate with the Saberon, to earn them an ally in Gorgrond with the war against the Alliance. The Alliance in turn is to scout the wilds for locations to start their resource operations... and potentially running into the Horde
OOC: Starts at 20.00 servertime.
Result: Horde plans were interrupted by the the Alliance and they were unsuccessful to gain the Saberon as their allies.
12.7 - The Ogre Tournament
The local Ogres of Stonemaul have taken notice of the conflict raging between the Alliance and the Horde in Gorgrond. As result, they have invited both factions to participate in a Gladiator tournament! The winning faction will earn their favour and support during the remainder of the war in Gorgrond!
OOC: Starts at 21.00 servertime. 3v3 fights in an non-instanced area. Each team fight only once. Number of teams depend on both faction group size. Winning faction gets to "drive out" the losing faction from Stonemaul Arena.
14.7 - The Desperate Defense
The Alliance have located the Horde camp and is determined to end their resistance once and for all by assaulting Beastwatch. It is up for the Horde to survive the onslaught, should they wish to continue operations in Gorgrond
OOC: Starts at 21.00 servertime. "Tower Defense". The Alliance will lay siege upon Beastwatch over the time of multiple waves, while the Horde is trying to defend.
15.7 - The Resource Transport
The Alliance seeks to transport a proportion of their resources gathered through the path from Highpass to Wildwood Wash on the coast of Gorgrond. The Horde in turn have no intention to let this shipment to pass "unhindered".
OOC: Starts at 21.00 servertime. "Caravan Defense". The Alliance will be moving along the road, protecting the "caravan" in a large group. Meanwhile the Horde seek to intercept by attacking in small groups multiple times along the road.
17.8 - "The Goreful Grond Finale"
The final day has come. The Alliance and Horde have forget everything about their resource gathering mission and are now looking eachother face to face. Hatred hangs heavy upon the air. Blood will flow like rivers tonight.
OOC: Starts at 21.00 servertime. All-out battle. combat-ressing allowed, corpse running allowed, all trinkets, toys and doomsday devices brought into the play in an endless slaughter that will conclude the Campaign.

Timeline:
- Pre-Campaign:
- 1.7 - Alliance War Council
Alliance War Council was held, to discuss the threat of the Fel Iron Horde and how the individual orders can assist with the war effort. Gorgrond was chosen as a target, to harvest resources and salvage iron from the Blackrock Foundry for the use of Alliance Military. Securing supply lines and sending resources to Tanaan through Lunarfall.
Master Chaplain Beladon Indarys was chosen as the Leader for the War effort, as part of the command chain to be estabilished. Indarys asked for volunteers to act as his Lieutenants. Hei'tar "Charlie" Blazesong, Cid Blackforge and Maelmoor Lightbringer volunteered, and the four act for now as the leaders of Alliance war-effort.
A second meeting would be held on Monday, to discuss further actions taken before the forces would travel to Draenor.
6.7 - Second Alliance War Council
A second Alliance War Council was held, to agree upon matters such as supply routes, food, patrols, prisoners of war and the infirmary. The Alliance forces would meet up at Lunarfall before travelling out to Gorgrond. Once in Gorgrond, scavenge and harvesting operations would be looked closer upon.
7.7 - Rallying the Elves
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
After hearing about the rising conflict in Draenor, the elves gathered in Farstrider Retreat to discuss how they would take action. The banners represented included The Phoenixstrider House, The Crimson Sun, Silence and Fil lavandras Angrale. Representatives from every banner decided to move out together to contribute to the conflict on the other side. With knights, magisters, farstriders and mercenaries, it seems the Sin'dorei will bring a diverse and fierce army to aid the Horde.
8.7 - Horde Warbands Meeting
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
"Alliance are stealing OUR resources, from OUR jungle!"
Was all they had in mind when several warbands of the Horde met up in Orgrimmar briefly before setting their course towards Gorgrond for proper planning...
9.7 - The First Day
The Alliance begin their march from Lunarfall to Gorgrond, to begin their resource gathering operations in the jungle and the desert. The Horde, however, were prepared. Upon entering the Jungle, the Alliance were assaulted by the Horde who were laying down for ambush. The initial fight the Alliance emerged victorious, with their battle-luck dwindling the further into Gorgrond they went. The Alliance suffered heavy losses, but so did the Horde, if a bit less (Horde won most, Alliance few).
At the end of the fighting, a Tauren walked up to the Alliance and set up a Totem before them. Following that, the whole Horde army turned and marched away. The message was clear: A challenge was given. Who would emerge victorious from the conflict? Only time will tell.

10.7 - The Second Day
The Horde started their day by approaching the Saberon, trying to earn themselves an ally in the inhospitable land. The Horde ambassadors were greeted with suspicion and hostility, so the negotiations did not progress fast.
The Alliance in turn went scouting into the wilds for resources. Among things, they found a hazardous mushroom swamp, and plants, and rocks, and blood...
The Alliance happen to stumble upon the the Horde negotiations with the Saberon. The scouting group did attack, but did soon find themselves being against overwhelming numbers. Thus, the Alliance scouts did retreat only to return later with reinforcements. The Alliance and Horde clashed multiple times, around the spot where the Alliance was ambushed on their arrival to the jungle. Yet, the fight soon ended up in a stalemate in where the sides were equally strong.
The Horde and Alliance representatives did negotiate with eachother, and in the end left the battlefield in peace one after another. That peace however did not last, as the Alliance who rode past the Horde camp left a banner upon their footsteps, provoking the Horde to assault the rear of the Alliance forces, which then the Alliance responded by tactically retreating back to Highpass.

11.7 - The Third Day - The Eye of the Storm
Following the last couple of days of conflict, there is an unnatural calm and stillness throughout the forests of Gorgrond. With only small skirmishes breaking out between wandering patrols, the Alliance and Horde have used this time to lick their wounds and prepare for the innevitable return of battle.
However, unknown to both factions the Orges have taken an interest in their struggles, eager to see their potential, envoys are sent to both factions in hopes that they will accept the ogres request; a tournament. The winner of whom will recieve their favour in the conflicts ahead.
(written by Tor/Liamsa)
12.7 - The Fourth Day - Stonemaul Smash-a-thon
Horde representative Tor Wolfrise and Alliance General Beladon Indarys meet with the leader of the Stonemaul ogres, who had sent a challenge out to them both to pit the two factions together to win their favour.
Several battles occurred, including a tense battle between the two leaders themselves! In the end the alliance won with a comfortable victory, leading the horde to be 'kindly evicted' from the ogre stronghold.
Both factions fought (more or less) honourably, and both leaders departed on good terms from the tournament; despite Tor sporting a nice lump on his head, courtesy of the now alliance sided ogres.

13.7 - The Fifth Day
Clashes for favor of Ogres had taken their toll and the day was more quiet, but not silent at all. No-one could have not noticed the tight tension in the air between two factions, as they could not affort to leave all manpower to rest.
Later at that evening Horde gathered a group as big as they could and sent it off towards a small Iron Horde campment near Gronn Canyon, in plans to salvage whats left for the Horde War Machine. From two possible routes they chose the one passing closer to Alliance camp, instead of rushing through the field of fighting Gronn and Botani. For no-ones suprise Alliance scouts did spot the Horde caravan while passing, but did not engage.
Upon arriving to Iron camp Horde forces found little resistance from Iron remnants and packed their Clefthoof full of supplies after bashing in few heads. Meanwhile Alliance scouts were following their moves with a distance. After the caravan safetly was moved to Beastwatch, Horde felt fed up with Alliance scouts and sent their own scouts to scout their scouting. Which escalated in many smaller skirmishes between the scouts till late night.

14.7 - The Sixth Day
With the assistance of their Ogre allies providing bombardment upon Beastwatch, the Alliance besieged the Horde encampment. The first waves hit a brick wall, but with ongoing assault, the Alliance began to push further in. However, due to misscommunication among Alliance leaders, the forces were called for an early retreat, which not only broke the Alliance morale but gave the Horde time to regroup.
As the Alliance forces returned to Highpass, a strike force led by the Cogshield initiative managed to smash against the Horde base in a violent surprise attack from the north hills above Beastwatch. The leader of Cogshield negotiated with one of the Horde leaders, demanding the Horde to leave Beastwatch. Giving the Horde one hour of time, the strike force struct again upon the Horde who had not yet left Beastwatch.
It was clear enough that the Horde would need to relocate. Set in two fires between the Ogres of Stonemaul and the Alliance, Beastwatch was no longer safe.

While Cogshield was waiting for the Horde to discuss their demands, they decided to go visit Tanaan and went into a near hour long war with a 40man raid of Horde Apexis farmers.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Cogshield came out victorious.
15.7 - The Seventh Day
Alliance had been stacking up resources all day along to their camp, and towards the evening it looked like they were preparing to move said resources. The Horde, with their scouts in place, were aware and prepared to intercept the resource caravan. An Alliance scout however spotted the Horde ambush well-beforehand and informed the command, who were able to assemble an intercept team to move ahead of the caravan.
After driving the Horde away from their initial hideout, multitude of skirmishes were fought in the jungles as the Horde sought to reach the Alliance convoy. The Alliance was ultimately successful in reaching their drop-off point, and the Alliance and Horde leaders met again nearby to discuss. The Horde then departed, fleeing into the jungle with the Alliance at their tail.

16.7 - The Eight Day - The Iron Docks
The Horde take advantage of the favorable location of their Laughing Skull allies, and their camp all but overlooking the Iron Docks. After scouting it from a terrace above, they set of with mounts along the shore. The Iron Docks were relatively calm, most of the Iron Horde remaining being those who had "Been to dumb, weak, or slow" to make the evacuation to Tanaan Jungle. The Horde snuck into the docks, mostly encountering and disposing Iron Horde with relative ease. As their ability to carry Resources were somewhat limited, they only Went for top quality supplies, and after scouring the docks manage to get a good haul of Blackrock weapons, armor, explosives, ore, a good supply of Wood, and various consumable supplies. They returned to the Broken Horn with no major Casualty.

18.7 - The Ninth, Final Day
The Alliance launched an assault upon The Pit, to secure resources and disrupt what Iron Horde yet remain. The Horde came soon after, with no intent to let the Alliance to harvest the region freely. Bloody battles ensured in the midst of the Iron Horde that might made even the brave heroes of Alliance and Horde to struggle upon reaching the bottom of the pit.
It was, however, only a distraction!
The Alliance charged past the Horde and Iron Horde to Iron Docks and secured the entrance while another group took care of the cannons protecting the Harbor. Bringing an Alliance ship -straight- to the docks, the Alliance then begin to clean the Iron Docks of useful supplies left. The operations was successful and strangely without interference from the Horde.
---
Summary of the Campaign:
Friday: The Alliance was ambushed the moment they entered the Jungle, suffering casualties but not putting end to their operation.
Saturday: The Alliance and Horde clashed. Because of the Alliance interference, the Horde was unsuccessful in gaining the favour of the Saberon in the area.
Sunday: The Alliance emerged victorious from the Ogre Tournament, and gained the favour of the Stonemaul Ogres.
Monday: The Horde successfully salvaged an Iron Horde camp in the desert areas, with the Alliance skirmishers being to late to intercept before the caravan reached Horde camp. Scouting upon scouts scouting scouts followed the rest of the night.
Tuesday: The Alliance besieged the Horde camp of Beastwatch with moderate success with the aid of their Ogre allies. The Horde managed to hold, but the harassment from Alliance skirmishers they suffered during the night convinced them to relocate camp.
Wednesday: The Alliance sent a supply caravan from Highpass to Wildwood Wash on the Eastern coast of Draenor. While the Horde managed to intercept some of the supplies, 2/3 made it thought. The Horde was then driven to the wilds.
Thursday: The Horde sneak into the Iron Docks and salvage the most valuable things that they could carry away with them.
Friday: The Alliance and the Horde fought for the control of the Pit, at which end the Alliance charged to the Iron Docks, neutralized it defence cannons and brought an entire ship to the port to salvage tons of supplies left to the Iron Docks.
So. Which side won?
Alliance and Horde both scored victories, but in the end the Alliance left with a 'little' bit more than the Horde.

-Avoid ressing during combat. (Once you die, please stay dead until your side is clearly defeated. This is to make it easier to visualize which side actually won the battle.)
This rule. I despise it, I hate it so much because I want to ress and just continue the battle like any other PvP battle. Other then that I adore the idea and can guarantee that I will come to wave around my flag stitched together by the various skins of the Horde I've killed.
Re: The Dusty Jungles - RP-PvP Campaign, 9-17.7
You are free to release spirit and run back to your corpse. Just refrain from pressing the "resurrect now" button until your side is dead and in the process of regrouping.Thorvald wrote:-Avoid ressing during combat. This rule. I despise it, I hate it so much because I want to ress and just continue the battle like any other PvP battle.
The purpose of the guideline you quoted is to be able to see which side won a larger battles and to encourage resurrecting in an organized fashion. Resurrect all at the same time (with or without mass-ress) > Buff up > Heal, and you are ready to go again in full force. You get more better fights out that way, rather than extending the one big battle to last forever - by resurrecting as fast as you can corpserun.
Keep in mind that these are Guidelines, not rules nailed into the stone that can not be deviated from under any circumstance. Anyone can organize and initiate battles. There is nothing wrong in going into smaller skirmishes in where you resurrect immediately, or create a massive battle between two graveyards intended to last forever. Diversity in battles is good. Just make sure your allies and enemies (in organized battles) are on the same altitude in terms of what set of rules you are using.
Good to hear of your enthusiasm towards the Campaign. Let us make it a grand spectacle spoken yet years to come.Thorvald wrote:Other then that I adore the idea and can guarantee that I will come to wave around my flag stitched together by the various skins of the Horde I've killed.

Thorvald, despise it as much as you wish! Just follow it. RP WPvP is not a Battleground (those are timed or limited to certain actions).

Re: The Dusty Jungles - RP-PvP Campaign, 9-17.7
My favourite part of today was when after few ambushes you suddenly stopped moving forward, so we sent in few scouts to see whats up. We saw Alliance gazing at another direction so one of the scouts was sent back to main group to report that Alliance might be considering another route.
Soon after that we saw Siegmund appear from the shadows and was about to send another scout to report that Alliance has spies and they know our location, BUT in the same moment whole group of Alliances started to charge towards our hideout!
I was running like mad behind you while yelling "ALLIANCE KNOW WHERE WE BE, DEY CHARGE!". Got to say you totally deserved win of that clash.
Also, a screenshot to keep up the mood.

(If anyone got any epic screenshots out of battles would be great to see them!)

Think we fought 6 times, of which 2 Alliance won. Won 1st, lost 2nd, 3rd, 4th, won 5th, lost 6th. Great battles and many great battles yet to come!

I just want to point out that I may be unavaliable for a few days, something IRL has come up and I do not think I will be able to partake in the campaign. If that's the case I wish the rest of you the best of luck, and I'll hopefully return later to organise something for you all

I'd prefer if to filtered 'the best' out of the screenshots before dropping, Aeryeris. I truly do not have to much time at my hands.

Addition to the PvP Guidelines
Addition: Ressing in your own faction camp is allowed (If you get killed in your faction camp, you can ress/combatress/corpserun freely. This is to reflect the fact that your camp likely have more reinforcements at it than the attacking group)
(was requested by Exi)

In my opinion, the Ogre Tournament was extremely enjoyable to watch! I loved the cheering of the crowd and the atmosphere that the arena had.
Admitted, we could have done better in certain ways (more fights, less "slowing down" towards the end, better match-up for teams), but all in all, I hope people had fun at it!

Here's my few Screenshots. I finally learned on how to make Albums for easier browsing!
