[A] The Azure Flame [Old]
- Spoiler:
- Moonbrook, Westfall, 19th of February of year 32 since the opening of The Dark Portal.
It had been an uneventful day in Westfall, much like the day before and the day before that. Several hours past midday, a stranger arrives at the town of Moonbrook, a female human wearing robes of purple, dark green and gold. Over her back clings a staff with a dark red crystals and on her belt a book and pouches, the marks of a Mage. The locals and the homeless of the town keep their distance as the stranger walks around, looking around until she stop by the abandoned cart next to what remains of the Inn. The stranger stands there for a while, taking an occasional sip from a hipflask. Minutes pass before the stranger moves again. With some effort, the stranger climbs on the driver's bench and stands up facing the center of the Moonbrook. Taking a deep breath she pulls out a wand, gesturing with it into the air, speaking hushed words and then points as her own throat. As she begins to speak, her voice is amplified by the power of magic to be heard across the town loud and clear.
"People of Moonbrook. May I have your attention for a moment?"
The amplified voice wakes up several sleeping hobos and scaring off several cats, causing them to dart away. With the attention of the locals caught, the stranger continue speaking.
"Before you ask, no, this is not an announcement in the name of the Alliance. Nor is this another comeback of the Defias Brotherhood. No, what I have is something different."
The stranger gestures in an arch around her.
"Look around you, look around Westfall. What you see are endless fields of yellow, once prosperous farmlands and mines. What remains now is poverty."
"The Alliance may have been good at one point. However, it has grown too large to sustain itself, It no longer acts for the good of its citizens, those in power send your children to war, set taxes to sustain their bloody campaigns, have an overly complex justice system that bends to the benefit of those who created it, not to even mention violence and unjustful treatment from the very guards that are meant to protect us."
"Trying to change the system is a hopeless battle of bureaucracy and an uprising demanding change by force will only share the Defias Brotherhoods fate."
"What I offer is a chance, that is, without lying, potentially dangerous. It is an opportunity to pack up what little you have and leave the Alliance - Leave to forge a new place for ourselves. A place where we may be free of the Alliance laws, free of discrimination, free of oppression."
The stranger lift her hand and perform a series of gestures with her fingers, a ball of blue fire spark into light above her palm. The blue flame flickers and cast a cold light upon the caster which cause some of the locals to back away.
"I can only bear the fire to sheen the light of hope through the dark, but it is for you to decide if you choose to follow."
"The Alliance may disagree with our claim, if they wish to. That is their freedom, their choice. They can however not extinguish our flame... because what we follow is an ideal... and an ideal is eternal. It will burn on forever."
"Nahrune'enor"
"We are the Azure Flame."
The stranger falls silent and watches at the silent crowd of homeless, drifters and transients. She performs a curtsey at the crowd and hop off from the cart, causing many of them to take another step back, wary. The stranger then begins to walk the road to the east, carrying the blue flame on her palm as she goes.
Not a single soul follows.
---
Soon after that day, rumors and stories of the encounter begun to circulate around Westfall, each rumor more wild and absurd than the previous, ranging from the return of the Defias Brotherhood to a coven of Necromancers that would take away children that did not return home before dark. Whatever remain the truth behind this group, blue flames could be seen to flicker in the night from the windows of the abandoned mage tower by south-eastern corner of Westfall.Westfall, 3th of March of year 32 since the opening of The Dark Portal.
The blue lights in the windows of Mortwake's Tower in the south-eastern corner of Westfall have died out.
Weeks ago, since the appearance and the speech of the stranger with the blue flame in Moonbrook, the flames have burned in the windows of the tower each night. For several weeks time, strange folk have come and gone to the tower, and suddenly... it is all quiet. At first the locals dare not to investigate the tower. It could be the den of a sleeping beast of what all they know. Yet in a few days, curiosity takes hold and a group of Moonbrook citizen travel to the tower to find out the truth. When they return, they say the following:
"There is nobody in there! The tower lay abandoned!"
Indeed, a brave soul visiting the tower will find no trace of magic nor mark of anyone living in there. Yet directly facing the entrance lay a painted message covering a large portion of the wall that is enough to wash away any doubt of the group existence.

Dun Morogh lay carved into the stone admist the painting for those who spend the time to search it out for clues.Dun Morogh, 7th of April of year 32 since the opening of The Dark Portal.
Among the mountain peaks of Dun Morogh lay the town of Kharanos. A peaceful little town, if one doesn't mind the occasional trouble from the Frost Troll, Trogs and Yeti. Nothing that the local Mountaineers couldn't handle though.
Although not leaving as noticeable mark as to Westfall, the locals of Kharanos had seen a group of strangers moving in and out their little town, bearing the symbol of a blue flame on their chest. Kept by their own, caused no harm and paid for their stay - what would there to be to question? They however have not be seen around for a while. The Innkeeper of Kharanos can tell more to the curious:
"That lot? Aye, know of them. Said they left to Draenor."Present Day...
They stood in a circle, those gathered, surrounded by circles upon circles set to the stone that pave the ground. Towering pillars of stone stood in the background, carved of rough stone. Some of them were leaning, burdened down by the passage of time. Numerous symbols, ancient runes were carved to their surface, yet they were dormant, as silent as the group who stood by the center of the ancient ritual circle made of stone, cloaked in mists and the shroud of the night that surrounded this area of ancient magic.
Most of those gathering wore robes, staves flung over to their back. Several wore armor instead of robes, but carried a number of pouches and a tome by their belt. Another few carried no visible traits of a spellcaster, but stood in the circle nontheless. No words were spoke, for they were not needed.
They were all holding a ball of blue flame upon their palm.- The concept in short:
- The Azure Flame is a group unsatisfied with the Alliance; by their laws, restrictions and the social positions forced upon them. Rather than trying to change the system, they have chosen a different path, to leave the Alliance and form a faction of their own. Ruled over by magi, they offer a haven for the shunned, discriminated and those who can or no longer want to make the Alliance their home.
- The Concept in length:
- What is the idea behind this guild?
To create opposition, to create conflict. The Azure Flame is a non-evil antagonist organisation of neutral alignment. In common terms that means that our and the interest of others (the Alliance) may clash, but we are not inherently evil (like the Twilight Hammer or The Burning Legion would be). The goal is to openly disagree with the Alliance while maintain a somewhat delicate touch to make it possible for others to sympathize with our cause.
What is the point in wanting to become a Faction?
First of all, when I speak of a Faction, i do not speak of major forces as the Horde and the Alliance themselves.
When I say faction I refer to smaller groups of people, akin to The Tillers, Anglers, Ebon Blade, Argent Crusade, The Klaxxi, Sporeggan, Kurenai, Frenzyheart Tribe, The Oracles and so-on. You know, those groups out in the world that you can help or work against, do some Quests, earn reputation rewards, access some fancy lore.
Instead of playing members of these factions, like some may chose to play members of the Argent Crusade or The Ebon Blade, we have chosen to create a faction of our own.
This does grant us unlimited freedom of what we can or can not do, as we're creating something new. Thus the Faction that we represent will be according to our ideals, nor will we have to follow the norms of an already estabilished faction.
In the spirit of RPG's, it also makes it possible for people to chose how they interact with the faction. Will they associate with it? Will they want to destroy it? Will they want to do trade with it? Do they want to grind up their reputation with them to access fancy rewards? The choice is yours.
Where will you be Roleplaying?
Out in the world and on the outskirts of the Alliance. The guild intends to be regularly interacting with other groups and guilds, but we will never have a "hub" in Stormwind because the city represents everything that we detest in the Alliance. Our reasons to visit that place could be to gather information, to contact people and to try gain support to our cause - but never would we want to remain there for long.
Currently, the guild does make their home to Draenor, which does place some limitations upon the members joining.
Do you have any kind of Uniform?
No. We do have a Tabard but even that is not required to be worn at all times.
What will your Roleplay be like?
The guilds main focus in roleplaying is character interaction. That means that we will not have many events where we face NPC's, commonly refered as Dungeon Master events, but instead try to put us in situations where we interact with or are set against other roleplayers.
Our internal roleplaying will be composed of talking, scheming how to further our goals, plotting how to make use of others, honing our skills, learning from eachother, developing our society and a whole lot of other things.
Something to be aware of, the guild does not "spoon feed" it members with a steady stream of events. Your involvment will depend entirely on your own activity and willingness to forward yourself to have a meaningful role in the guilds schemes.
Will you participate in other gameplay than RP?
We are first and foremost a Roleplaying guild. Due to the server type PvP is a possibility, but for sure we won't organize any PvE activities.
Are you a RP-PvP guild?
No, not in the sense that we would actively seek to pick a fight with the Horde.
However in the spirit of RP-PvP servers, we do require our max level players to acquire Honor gear (or better) and transmogrify it as their Roleplaying gear when roleplaying out in Contested territory.
We will defend ourselves if attacked and treat it as IC if only possible. Should we face overwhelming numbers or continuous harassment that we are not in a position to deal with, we may relocate to another location IC or OOC to continue our RP.
What level characters can join?
Level 20 and higher with the Warlords of Draenor expansion.
The reason to this is the guilds Roleplay in Draenor, which does require said expansion. We recommend our members to be Level 90 or higher, since otherwise their participation in the guilds roleplaying may be limited (due to the high level of mobs on Draenor zones).
To what kind of characters would your concept suit into?
To anyone who doesn't hate magic and have a reason to leave the Alliance behind.
-A farmer who has to pay absurd taxes despite hardly making enough to feed their family.
-A Mage who is frustrated by the regulations the Alliance places on them.
-A Guardsman who have lost faith in the justice system.
-A homeless person drifting having lost everything in the wars.
-A Warlock/Necromancer who would want to practice their arts without discrimination and having to remain hidden.
-A Noble from the North whose family was against the creation of the Alliance in the first place.
-A former Defias Brotherhood member who firsthand saw the injustice of the Alliance and later the death of their leaders at the hands of the Alliance.
-An individual who find the local, moral politics to petty and constricting.
-A person searching for a purpose in life.
-A Gnome who found the lack of assistance for Gnomeregan offputting.
-A Gilnean not keen to rejoin the Alliance after leaving it in the first place.
Mind, our concept is not a cult, nor a rebellion. We do not seek to destroy the Church of the Light nor to overthrow the King. Don't worry, we will still have conflict and interaction with other groups. However, if all that your character seeks is glory or bloodshed with no disregard of subtlety, we may not be the guild for you.
How will the number of players in the guild affect your activity?
If we are small, we will focus on personal character interaction and plots while doing what we can as a faction. If we are large, we focus on the aspect of being a faction, engage in diplomacy, establish a place for ourselves in the world and focus on creating an unique society.
Do you have a website of your own?
No. The possibility of creating one was explored, but in the end we wished to put more emphasis to the roleplaying that happens in the game rather than involve external websites into it.
In practice this means that while we intend to put a great deal of work to create depth to our concept, you can simply not read it on the forums but will have to rely on information given in roleplaying, Gryphonheart Item creations (a RP addon) and Text-files.
How will your recruitment work?
No matter the mean you approach us, we will require you to read through this recruitment thread. We want our members to be aware on what they are throwing themselves into. Once they have read the thread and accepted our rules, we will proceed to the In Character interview which will be held by an Officer of the guild.
In the interview we ask questions from your character, such as what is their name, where do they come from, but also difficult, more personal questions. The point when you accept to our rules does not mean that you are automatically in. We are a roleplaying guild, so you will have to roleplay your way through the interview and convince the officer in question to accept you (Mind, if you are unsure on how to proceed, you can always whisper the officer and ask them for advice).
Should you pass the Interview, you are invited to the guild.
- Guild rules:
- "Terms of Service"
Before joining the guild, we want you to agree that your character is open to be harmed, open for permanent death and you will accept the consequences for your character actions even after leaving the guild. We are not friends with everyone and that is potential to put your character in a risk. An immersive environment requires that the players accepts whatever comes, providing that it makes sense from an In Character standpoint.
Otherwise, we wish you to agree to the following:
1.) Your character is not "untouchable" or "overpowered". When it come to conflict, it won't be enjoyable for the other player if you can dodge every attack or are an unbeatable overlord able to defeat anything. Keep it interesting for both sides, have strengths and weaknesses alike.
2.) You will refrain from meta-gaming. Meta-gaming is when you use information acquired outside of Roleplaying in your roleplaying. OOC info in IC in others words.
2.5.) If you think you have been meta-gamed against at, we want you to look into the situation calmly. Do not raise a big noise, but ask politely OOC where they have got the information from. Pause RP if necessary. If they lack a valid source, you do not need to acknowledge their claim and may leave the situation through OOC means as nothing would have happen. Contact a Guild Officers if necessary.
3.) Always leave the outcome open when you write an emotes that concern another player. Let them decide whether they are affected by it or not.
4.) You will not corpse-camp other players in WPvP. Corpse-camping is killing the same player repeatedly without giving them an opportunity to heal or run.
5.) Any ERP that you may do will be kept in private channels.
6.) You will not disturb or grief other people roleplay.
7.) You will be friendly and respectful towards others within the guild.
8.) You acknowledge that your words and actions represent the guild when wearing our Guild Tag, whether it is ingame or on the forums and you will not bring us into shame.
9.) You will abide to the WoW Terms of Service, follow the Game Rules, RP-PvP realm rules and use no cheats, hacks or anything deemed bannable by Blizzard.
Lastly, to keep our guild roster clean, any members that has been offline for 1 months or longer without prior warning will be removed. Characters who are no longer part of the guild IC will be removed. The guild does not allow non-rp alts or alts who are not IC part us into the guild.
To contact, whisper: Skarain(GM), Templeman, Vírra or Verlen ingame.
The Guild is no longer active. We may return... someday...

Re: [A] The Azure Flame [Old]
Always a possibility. As the post states, i do have an intention to interact with other groups and not isolate ourselves completely. Obviously the guild is less than one day old, so it is unrealistic to think of large number meetings, but you are open to for example to come after the rumors going in Westfall (and spreading beyond) and find out what in the Light's name is going on.Furenia Krast wrote:Very nice! Glory for a pagan warband going to purge a supposed necromancers coven, eh?

Rise up Workers of Stormwind for we too are unsatisfied with the poverty we are being forced into! Looking forward to this concept if it kicks off. See a lot of cross-guild potential here.

You seem unsure if we will. To take your worries away, we have been roleplaying most of the afternoon, evening and are composed of 7 members in total after only roughly 24 hours of recruiting. We also have no intention to stop here but to keep on growing and not only in the member count.Robin Drake wrote:Looking forward to this concept if it kicks off.
Time will show. It is to early to say to a direction or another if they have something to worry about, and even if i 'could' say, i think it is best to leave into roleplaying.Jenelle wrote:Amazing concept.

Does this Faction have a main hub? I mean if I was to play a disappointed stormwind guard and I would join the AF, would this make me homeless? Would I still be welcome in Stormwind? Since you oppose the Alliance..

Re: [A] The Azure Flame [Old]
We do have a hub where we roleplay at, which is Mortwake's Tower in Westfall as suggested by the rumors. However for a Faction that have existed only a couple of days, it is to early to have a stationary static hub, as we're yet finding our place out in the world.Secran wrote:Does this Faction have a main hub?
The reason we are in Mortwake's Tower is strictly because of IC reasons. We do not intend to remain there forever.
It depends what you define as a home, but no. We seek to make a new home for ourselves, so each of our bases will be a home for the time we stay in here.Secran wrote:I mean if I was to play a disappointed stormwind guard and I would join the AF, would this make me homeless?
However due to the fact that we are yet to establish a place for ourselves out in the world, and the fact that we may be forced to change our home should someone chose to come after us with the intent to destroy.... so where your "home" is potential to change.
Who knows? Maybe in the future we will have a "Main Hub Faction Home Base" thing with several outposts and minor hubs elsewhere, but currently we're only using Mortwake's Tower as our "home".
We "disagree" with the Alliance. Sure, i totally expect us to end up in positions where our and the Alliance interest may clash, but we won't proclaim that we would oppose the Alliance directly. Quoting from the main post:Secran wrote:Would I still be welcome in Stormwind? Since you oppose the Alliance..
As on, we aim to walk a middle-ground where people can not decide with a single voice whether we are good or evil, to allow us that freedom to move around the major cities while bearing our insignia out in the open. We will also avoid openly proclaiming war as such would be a suicide against a Mega-Faction as the Alliance.Main Post wrote:"The goal is to openly disagree with the Alliance while maintain a somewhat delicate touch to make it possible for others to sympathize with our cause."
Whether you are still welcome to Stormwind will depend on the look of the diplomatic scene and how successful we are to maintain a neutral reputation. Nothing prevents you from walking around Stormwind, but for a faction of people who have left the Alliance for a reason, it might not make sense for your to hang around there casually.
If you are concerned that you would be RP-starved with a group that roleplay outside of Stormwind, i can assure you that is not the case. We have had roleplaying every day and evening so far. On top of that, our intention is still to interact with other groups and guilds regularly once we get ourselves properly established.
However even in the scenario that Azure Flame was Kill-on-Sight, you are most likely a member of the Alliance races (as an ex-guard), so if you do not wear our tabard, use different clothing and maybe get a haircut, who is going to recognize you as one of us? Probably no-one if you especially aim to not draw attention.

Guild level requirement raised to level 90 due to the guild intentions to roleplay in Draenor in the future.
Existing members below that level will be allowed to remain, but their ability to participate in the guilds roleplaying may be limited due to the high level of mobs around Draenor (Beyond Stormshield).

And remember children, pack your PvP gear and turn of walking whenever you are sitting down somewhere. Remember to buff yourself whenever it begins running out and keep a steady look out for those pesky Horde, as some of them will not hesitate to grab your ass and turn you into their bicycle for the rest of the evening.
Don't forget to interact with players while you are in Draenor while you are at it! We need more people interested in roleplay.

Beware, the dark forests of Talador are not a safe haven for unprotected Magi scrying the Legion's forces. You may want to pay more attention to your flank than your ritual in future.
