Crime considered in a Meta Perspective.
Crime reconsideration, considered in an Meta Perspective.
While it is true that if you kill a roleplayer in wow you should expect someone to be angry at you and take revenge, we must also remember that the criminal is a Human in-front of a screen that has chosen this path as it is more fun and interesting after his taste.
This means we need to think about this in a Meta perspective too, what if the Human doesn't want his/her character to die? Remember that we would never kill a character that doesn't want to die, it would make people upset in real life and probably deny that it ever happened.
The same could happen to the Criminals actor, he could say that he doesn't like the sentence and denies that he was ever captured/killed.
"Do to others what they would have done to you."
Remember that saying? It was what most mothers and fathers taught us when we were small.
But since I know when you have committed a crime you should be prepared to take some responsibility in your act, that's just common sense, so my suggestion is that if you have committed a murder you should be a part of the decision made about your character.
If the Player (That has committed a crime.) Decides he doesn't want his character to die, another decision needs to be taken, this makes the sentence feel less forced and makes less people enraged. There are plenty of others choices, one of them could be rehabilitation for the character.
Anyway this is -Just- my opinion and I would love to listen on others opinions and meanings.
Please keep your opinions calm and related to the subject, and of course use common sense.

Re: Crime considered in a Meta Perspective.
I'm pretty sure this is already the case, yeah, though it's something some people do forget from time to time. Regiment's quite good with offering exile, lashings and other punishments instead. When it comes to on-the-street retaliation, though, IC is still IC (that said, I'd still never kill anyone without permission).

As Feral said, this is already the case. A judge within the Ministry of Justice can not OOCly decide whether or not a character should die for his crimes without speaking to the player of said character first. There is always, or should always be, a close OOC communication between the judge/prosecutor and the criminal about what his punishment should be.
The lesser the crime, the more options are available to the player.

"This is already the case"

As i've seen this has been done a lot especially lately. I don't see a reason to complain or mention this. But it is anoying when you do let them off and they come again and again doing who knows what crimes and still going "Nope!" Of course that's rare.
From my experience things work out fine.

I'll just leave this here...
- Spoiler:
- 157th "Wild Tempest" Company
The "Last Chance" Program
The Last Chancer programme's initial conception was a created designed for criminals and conscripts of the Grand Alliance. The "Last Chance" program is a place for hard men and women to whom life has not been kind. Outcasts with no other place to go, prisoners with severe sentences that choose service in the army over the noose or imprisonment.
The Last Chancers are given the assignments other soldiers are too valuable to do, because they are "expendable". The nasty jobs, the dangerous tasks, things no sane person would do willingly. Those of "Last Chance" are given no other options but to tread forward or die, in hope of someday earn their pardon and gain their freedom.
In the manner of Prison Sentences and there equating time in correspondence to the amount of time conscripted in to the unit they are as follows:
Theft - One to Three Months
Assault - One to Three Months
Kidnapping - Three to Nine Months
Manslaughter - Three to Nine Months
Murder - Three to Twelve Months
Treason - Three to Indefinitely
Cultism - Three to Indefinitely
Each crime, both the listed and unlisted, will all be looked as separate cases, and the time of conscription may differ from 1 months to indefinitely depending on the severity of the crime(s).
OOC: The time of service will be agreed with each individual based on their own wishes. The times are guidelines and not set into stone.
Specific Rules of the Last Chancers:- Each and every individual of the "Last Chance" program will immediately join the Company with -TWO- strikes in his or her Disciplinary Records. This is their -last- chance to correct their mistakes.
- A Collar will be locked around the neck of each Last Chance Platoon member, signifying their position as a Last Chancer. The collar has a built-in tracking device, so the location of Last Chancers can be followed at all times. Removal of the locked collar will have severe consequences, and will effectively mark the person a deserter and treated as such: Kill on Sight.
- Last Chancers can never ascend beyond the rank of Private within the 157th Company.
- A Last Chancer is required to always let an Officer known of there location, where they will be found, despite the collar around there neck. This also includes off duty hours.
- Last Chancers will have no perks of a regular soldier, this includes minimal rations whilst on the field, access to only basic equipment, and will always be restricted to the ship of the Company or a Military base when annual leave is given to the rest of the men.
The Last Chance Platoon is open to all who wish to seek clemency in the eyes of the Crown and the Grand Alliance as a whole. Convicts, and Exiles alike. However this is of course highly subjective and each individual will be looked on as a seperate case with varying degree of severity both by the Officers of the 157th Company, and the Officials of the Grand Alliance.
"Freedom must be earnt. Not Given." - Each and every individual of the "Last Chance" program will immediately join the Company with -TWO- strikes in his or her Disciplinary Records. This is their -last- chance to correct their mistakes.
