Because obviously, Blizzard's forum moderation rules are paramount to quality ensurance and we should adhere to the same rules on this private forum as the ones that are active on battle.net

And clearly, posting it HERE means we're just cowards and shit.

About the doing them a favour: If they wish to be accepted on the realm, their names should be fitting for the realm they want to play on. Either they pay for a name change, or we report them and they get one for free. What's the most desirable to you? having to pay, or having somebody else do the work so you get it for free? Alright now.

Let's say they don't want to be accepted and picke the name knowing fully that it was against the rules with the purpose to troll people and shove the fact that they don't respect the rules right in our faces. In this case, they should be dealt with in a way that puts them in line with the rules. So long as we're not flinging insults at people behind their back, I don't see what's wrong with saying "Hey, guys, report this one so he'll get a namechange faster.". It's hurting nobody.

Naming and shaming isn't always a bad thing, Amaryl. In fact, the expression doesn't really fit here because we don't know those that are being shamed. They have no idea we are reporting their names. The expression is used in situations where the person who is named will be embarassed/shamed by whatever is announced. If they are reported, we will never know what they changed their names to.

I probably won't report anyone on this list mainly because I cba to load up the game and do it and to be quite honest, I don't really care enough about names to do that. The reason I'm defending the thread is because it's an innocent attempt at trying to improve some aspects of the server. Those who oppose it just seem to do so because they're bored.

Firstly: We do not decide what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. We do not discern the point where it becomes harrassing and griefing. We do not decide the line where People should be "dealt" with and when they should not. When talking about Blizzard's Naming Policy.

It is not our place to become the Arbiters of what is a decent name and what is not a decent name. Heck it certainly isn't our place to Incite the "good" guys (people that use these forums because on this forum people will report those names we deem bad!) to report on the "bad" guys in the name of preserving and bettering RP!

Those are ultimately all powers and decisions that lay in the hands of Blizzard.

If you want to incite a pogrom, go ahead, but you're kidding yourself, or lying to us, when you say its: for the betterment of RP and the RP community! (and most importantly for the better for the people you're targeting)

Making a list of names of people that should be reported is nothing short but creating an Us VS Them Mentality. The old RP-Police, and Elitism arguments can be brought forth again.

As an Added bonus, doing it in the "shadows" by using a private forum, to promote actions that we all know is against the regulations of the company who's game we're playing is just sad.

We're not deciding that they're bad names fuck sake. We're concluding that by the terms BLIZZARD STATED, the people are naming their characters inappropriately, and then we're making BLIZZARD aware of this so that BLIZZARD can decide what name is bad and what name isn't. If BLIZZARD disagrees with us on whether or not a name is bad then BLIZZARD has called the shots and BLIZZARD, being the ultimate end-power in this case, has proven that the name in question does not warrant a name change. HOWEVER. If the name gets changed, it is because BLIZZARD (NOT us, BLIZZARD) decided that the name was not appropriate and thus followed up by changing the name of the character.

You're acting like WE are initiating some sort of server wide witch hunt to purge the realm of OOCers. We're only making Blizzard aware of the people who break THEIR rules. Blizzard's terms and agreements are only in power when it regards conversations had on their forums or in their game servers. Sharing OOC names to collectively report them on a private forum dedicated to the betterment of their RP server is not against their terms as they hold no jurisdiction here and thus will not, even if they'd bothered watching this forum, take action against it in any way.

We're not "doing it in the shadows". These forums are quite open for anybody to use and read. If Pornhub was to visit this forum, he could quite easily see that Ephitos had encouraged people to report his name.

You are acting like what we're doing is some unspeakable crime when the only "victim" of it is the poor soul who might have to rename his char because he broke the rules defined by, again, BLIZZARD. NOT US. Our personal opinions on what constitutes a good name is of no consequence, as action will ONLY be taken if a Blizzard representative deems the name inappropriate.

You're arguing against the sentiment that we are the ones on our high horses judging which names are allowed to exist on an RP server, when in fact nobody, neither the community, Blizzard nor even ourselves, have attempted to grant us this power. You're creating a strawman, and your entire arguement falls apart on this ground. Nobody is arguing the case you're bashing.

Actually, the player is perfectly in their right (and encouraged) to report bad names... hence why there is a "Report player name" feature in the game. Blizzard invites you to help them by doing this. The reason they don't support it on their forum is because it is meant to be anonymous. We're still holding an aspect of that here - again, putting names on here to report isn't against the terms and conditions set for the server.

The difference being that these people have absolutely no effect on RP. None. Fucking 0. They've done nothing wrong, they most likely keep to themselves and often will even respect RP, and yet here we are calling their names retarded and encouraging everyone to report them as if we're not even on a publically viewable fucking forum.

We "Decided" that people who break the name policies are sporting bad names and as such notify Blizzard so they can take action when they deem the name to be a breach of contract.

I think we should also take screenshots of everyone we see OOC in /s, /y or /e and post them here to be mass-reported. Enforce the rules! If I recall correctly, /1 is also meant for RP-related chat, so make sure to report OOC in general chat too!

Do you call 999 if you see someone driving 35mph on a 30mph road? Reporting people for minor rule breaking that affects NOBODY, without telling them, slandering their names and asking your friends to report them too is purely, solely, without exception, BEING A CUNT.

This isn't as melodramatic as you and Raenmar are making it out to be. "What about their children? They will grow up to hate reports and then commit genocide!"

You do realise most people don't role-play because they have absolutely no interest in it? None of my friends would ever role-play, not because of a community of elitists but because they think it sounds boring, sad and insignificant to them. I've read the forum post about why people don't role-play and it has nothing to do with this forum. They referred to in game experiences.

It's perfectly within people's rights to report names and this thread isn't going to change anyone's opinion of it. I'll be perfectly honest, you can't argue against this thread when you have made a dozen ones about ABOC just for ganking.

Quite simply, if you don't want to report people - don't. This thread breaks no rules and it's a simple concept. No need to adjust your bra straps over it, gents.

I amused myself by reporting harryrotter's (From aBoC) thread about ERP' on Argent dawn the other day.

silly fool posted a picture of a few naked folks naked on a bed in goldshire. sadly, he included a pet, with its owners name over it. So i reported it for naming and shaming. and it was removed.

...turns out it was His pet.
