[Suggestion and discussion] Fictive Base Building
Hello bandits of the Brotherhood!
I am here to talk about an idea of mine. I have always been a fan of the concept to build something from scratch, and feel something evolve due to my actions and choices. I have long thought about whether or not it's possible to implement in WOW, and here is my thoughts.
Many (atleast on AD) have tried to make ressource systems where they can fortify in-game locations. Just as an example, somebody might rebuild Stromgarde. There are several problems with this though. 1: The visiuals. It's still a bloody ruin. 2: Other people might refuse to play along, and continue to claim that it is a ruin.
Here is what I thought about then. What about making a fictive location, maybe an island, where people would be able to build up a base of their own. There would be made a list of all different kinds of encampments, buildings and etc, and then people could build them. In this way, nobles would be able to have an estate to actually own, and would also open up for IC trading in another way.
What do people need to build these things then? Well.. This is a RP-PvP server, so I think that most people here like to... Fight. So what I was thinking, was maybe a steady weekly or monthly amount of RP (Ressource Points) and then maybe a bonus for each RP-PvP skirmish won. A way to keep record of this, would be to require the guild to report the victory. Maybe it would be possible to make a sub-forum here on the site for it all?
I should not get ahead of myself though What do YOU think?

Re: [Suggestion and discussion] Fictive Base Building
Have already 'built' bases for my toons. Dru built a laboratory in Desolace which I represent with Scholomance. Likewise, most nobles already have established lands in Elwynn Forest, and typically use Eastvale estate as a representation of their manors.
I don't see the reason to make an island when there is plenty of "base building" going on already. However, it would be very nice to have a subforum, similar to Population, where people can write details of their various establishments, namely the ones that aren't directly in-game (like the various noble baronies, or villains' secret lairs, or a character's house, etc). Just, no reason to limit it to an island when there is plenty going on in "normal" areas already.
As for a system... such systems are often used during actual RP-PvP campaigns, tailored specifically to the area in which the factions are fighting (the Jade First campaign, for example, or the October Crusade). There typically isn't a reason for such a system outside of campaigns, though, as these "bases" deep inside factional territory are rarely actually attacked.

Re: [Suggestion and discussion] Fictive Base Building
Allright, I will try to elaboriate a bit.
First of all, I am aware that many people allready have a fictive home, just as you say yourself. What I am talking about though, is to build up a home from scratch. Either though IC trade or maybe IC fighting? The only reason I suggested an island, is because that it's possible to make up an unclaimed island. That way, both Horde and Alliance would be able to take part in it.
I am also aware that systems often are made during Campaigns, but the problem (to me) is.. Well, the campaign lasts for maybe a week. Then what about afterwards? How do you progress from there? Let's say that you are a guild who would like to have a Blacksmith added to their 'base'. Maybe simply because they OOC would find it awesome, or maybe due to some IC reason. They can see though, that they won't be able to build it a looong time, unless they go fighting. So in an attempt to earn some Ressource Points, they plan a skirmish with another guild.
To make it short: The main purposes with this idea of mine are mainly:
1: Progressable player/guild base.
2: Have some kind of reward to RP-PvP battles.
3: Provide a tool for people who would like to do Trading RP or Noble RP in a different way.

I've made stuff like Drustai, but what you're suggesting isn't really my style of RP. Too much like a strategy game, good luck with it though.

Many tend to want "excisting buildings" when they RP and use the system that both Drustai and Vaell uses, so I belive that I shall stick with that as well. And agreeing with Vaell, it is too much strategy and it would end up too complicated.
