Re: Character combat strength.
I think "Defender's Rules" is a good way to go.

You can always just walk away. If the defending party isn't displaying a role-playing style that is to your taste, why would you even want to fight them?

...I'm stealing that idea. Next time someone attempts to assault Alph, it's on.

Defenders gotta defend or they're just asking for a stomping either way. Only so long you gotta be chivalrous before stomping on a mofugga.

Right, my bad. I don't care enough to read past a few posts.Vaell wrote:Solanum asked why I pay the money if I'm not fond of mechanics and if it was only for role-play. I was... answering his question... Do you understand the meaning of the word logic? I mean, are you feeling ok?Bullshit argument, everyone does.
It's not a matter of reason to why you're playing, if you RP in WoW, you pay to RP. That's basic logic.

Re: Character combat strength.
First post in a while, wow.
I despise PVP being used to settle simple, small scale conflicts, why? As stated before, there are massive class imbalances within the game at times, and PVP cannot reflect how your character fights always as well. Let's look at my character, Alarka, a pretty good fighter, and a hunter OOC. He can hunt well IC, yes, but he does not fight like a hunter - if anything he fights like a rogue who also deals in hand to hand combat as well. I cannot PVP him like this, because I'm a hunter and I'd lose. I'm also a Beast Mastery hunter, so I rely on my pets for around half my damage, and a lot of abilities.
Now, I'm decent at PVP, nothing special but nor am I bad at it. I don't have full conquest gear - bits and pieces along with full honor. This means 9/10 I would lose to say, a rogue/warrior in conquest gear. Let alone arena stuff. However, according to the PVP fighting system, my character would get the living shit beat out of him every time he went up against someone with that gear. And if I had that gear, and say an officer of the guild who was a far better fighter than my character fought me who did not - I would most likely win, even if he has had much more experience, and general ability.
Your ability in fighting IC should not be based on your ability, gear and class OOC, because at the end of the day gear, class imbalance and obvious ability which can be low because of limited playing time means that some RPers just cannot be as good as other RPers, which means IC they're terrible at fighting due to that which is unfair. I base someones ability IC generally off of what they do for a living ic, how long they have been actively RPing that character as that, and also their characters background, and when that information is not available I will just try my best to go along with it - letting them decide how powerful my character is, and hopefully vice versa.
That is my view on this right now, and some points may be the same as others in the thread and repeating it, and if that is true I apologize, just wanted to give my input to this.
Oh, and for the record I've been on this realm since it started, though never sticking to one character long enough to be recognizable til a couple of years ago.
