I had a more spiritual conversation with a Light preacher once.
He was a death knight though. Hmmm.
The other one I shared a prison cell with. Good times.

Re: Gnome Priests
Not really no. Gnomes aren't priests. Simple as that, it's been stated over and over that they're simply not that deeply caring for... Well, anything that isn't progessing technology. Sure, use the light to amplify needless gadgets and trinkets and other things (in other races view), but that'd not really have much to do with the light itself. It'd be focused on technology. It'd be like applying arcane to it, just replace arcane with Light, so you'd just be a healer. Not a priest.Paozi/Thelos wrote:Coppersocket wrote:
Sure, a priestess, there's probably some, but I can't see they'd get much out of it in terms of basically anything that would actually benefit to their curiosity for a long period of time as the Light worship is, to say the least, extremely stagnant. It's not progressing anywhere, it's not changing, it's just... There. Unchanged.Melnerag wrote:Invent flying, jet-powered, sin-seeking hammer-drones that fly around and and seek out sinners, then shout "HAMMER TIME!" and whack them until they enter their repenance.
Suffice to say that with all the brainstorming in this thread, I think we have proven Coppersocket wrong in this point!
There's plenty of space for Gnomish ingenuity in the field of theology.
Again, the Light itself is way too stagnant to hold interest to the Gnomes as anything more than another tool. Saying it isn't, is just ignoring simple facts and humanizing your Gnome to fit your needs.

Actually, in all of the aforementioned examples, technology would be used to amplify the Light, not the other way around. Saying it's the other way around would be like saying Paladins use the Light to amplify their hammer, rather than them using their hammer to smite the enemies of their Faith.
Gnomes would just be building very complicated hammers.

Re: Gnome Priests
But it IS the other way around for Gnomes.
Their structure is to build. So they build. What and how they build varies, but they build. But in base, it's that they build that's most important. The items they would create would possibly amplify the light, however it would do so not because they believe it is used to deeper get connected to it, but rather to advance in the technology and the benefits.
The item itself is before the amplified power. The power is used to aid the items work, not the other way around. While the effect is the same, the means to achievement are different.

I don't see how the two would be mutually exclusive. You can both be a pious believer in something and have a keen fascination for tinkernig with things.

I'll put it simple then.
Because you don't Gnome.
You're better off just sticking with a race that is more suited to your views, rather than trying to force it upon a race that clearly isn't.

I will, because if you're gonna play it wrong from the start you may as well play a race more befit your views and way of RPing.

Sorry, I forgot Gnomes are human children in disguise so They must have the same variety as a human does, their background clearly plays no role in this at all, nope. Not at all.Dréfurion wrote:Gnomes are all the same, highly rational technophiles. Y'know like all black people are the same and thiefs.

Yeah, instead of going for the entire "expanding the gnomish community" that we every now and then discuss in the channel.Coppersocket wrote:I'll put it simple then.

Lets tell people to turn the fuck away because they don't go for a way of doing it -you- see as correct.
Going by some of your definitions of what makes gnomes gnomes... Well seems half my characters are lorelols and i should probably racechange to something i know better, huh?
When the hell did you get such a shitty damn attitude?
On the subject of gnomes actually beliving in the light, nothing says they can't.
The warcraft rpg (allthough no longer directly canon) said that some gnomes pay their respect to the holy light.
Though most gnomes priests might not be priests in the traditional sense i see nothing wrong with a actuall gnome priest.

Tech-priests are awesome. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. They are one of the few things I actually love about Warhammer 40k universe.

If someone wanted to play a Night Elf who believe their blood is made up of chicken's egg yolk, let them do it! Sentient beings can have variety, you don't have to stick to a cliché!

Re: Gnome Priests
I think I went quite bit over charismatic on the topic, turning into a lore-nazi wasn't my intention, but the end result.
You're free to RP whatever, however I believe it'd be useful to try use the standards and the background of the race as a building stone. I also don't believe every race is for every player, but that's really besides the point.
I'm not in a position where I can say "You're not allowed to play this race because of x reason", after all- and even if I were, I shouldn't.

Have you tried thinking before you type? It might help you come across less aggressive.

Currently roleplaying a Tech-Marine in a Deathwatch game... I love the AdMech in 40k too!

As much as I disagree with Copper in this thread, you can't type something like this without seeming like a bit of a dick. It comes off as condescending. He became a little passionate, it happens!Grim wrote:I think I went quite bit over charismatic on the topic, turning into a lore-nazi wasn't my intention, but the end result.
