Hall of Fame - an idea.

now i've been toying with this idea for a few weeks, considering some pro's and cons, and how it would be done... so here it goes...

some people on this server, deserve some recognition for a specific character they created that is... shall we say, amazing. some characters blow our minds, do great epic things, or do dark dastardly deeds. and in my opinion they need recognition for it, they deserve recognition for it.

so my proposal is as such, a Defias brotherhood Hall of fame. now i imagined it working more or like this...

1) a section is made on this forum specifically for different threads regarding this 'Hall of fame'.
2) the actuall hall is locked and only forum mod's can post or access it.
3) those in the hall have a picture psoted that best depicts their character, with a short bio and a list of their Achievements/evil-doings etc.
4) to be placed in this hall of fame, a character... a specific character, not the player, needs to be 'suggested' by so many people. lets say... 20/25 as a random number, excluding themselves (recommending yourself is... meh).
5) threads can be made discussing what should be placed on that characters 'bio'. such as details and discussing the picture. its completely out of the hands of the person who made or plays this character.

...now as an example, i would put forward the following names to go up...

1) Fortesgue
2)Tziak
3) Shrogan
4) Melnerag
5) Dorik
6) Ataris
7) Kozgugore
8 ) Eain (if anyone remembers...)
9) Darothar
10) Aarian

and thats off the top of my head, before people ask.

On a more serious note, I don't really think it is a good idea. Do we really need to make the RP community even more shut off by hailing certain egotistic RPers in this, as Sexilius put it "Hall of E-peen".

In my opinion, you discover who is a decent RPer through RPing with them, I don't think a list needs to be made to decide that for you. Not to mention the offense someone who has given the game and the realm years of his basement lived life, would be afflicted with if not voted for the wall.

Now I'm not saying that we don't have some remarkable people on this server, that -do- deserve to be on this, who have given alot to the realm's RP. I just really don't think this is the right way to go about it, they get such recognition through the respect people grant them, the thanks that they get for their work among other things. They don't need another notch to their ego's.

If it were up to me, this Hall of Fame would be for characters that are either dead or simply not Rped anymore, alas that would give us hardly any people to put on it. Just my 2 copper.

if its strictly moderated and seen over by the forum mod's, as well as you have no say in your own 'referal' i ... really dont see how epeen comes into it.

It would be a reward for people playing characters that have significant importance IC'ly, only it's far from possible for every character to be so. You don't want to see how bad things will get when everyone is trying to be in the spotlight.

No narrative works without its minor and unimportant characters to fill out roles supporting the primary characters or simply being extras to make the setting of the plot come alive. If anything, they are the ones deserving recognition to keep encouraging the players who decide to fill out these roles.

If it now only is the grand people, it hardly could be a contest of e-peen.

So yeah, I do think it'd not cause that much drama. Even if the idea is 'meh', and all.

Right through silly I think. I mean, the people that are good as you say already get whispers about this as recognition I am sure. I agree that this is only a way to create drama and QQing and people that don't think alike will comment whine etc etc.

So yeah. Bad idea through and through in my opinion.

I think it's a excelent idea.
However, only my grand self would fit in there, naturally.

The idea behind it to have some people get recognition for the rp/game-play they create is a nice gesture.

However I think it's more productive to just let people know now and then you appriciate them in a whisper. I think a hall of fame probably just back fires. People will start to disagree, some might get jealous, and their might be people who do a lot but stay unnoticed because they keep low profiles. Also there might be some people who might turn up on the list who do not want that kind of attention.

Anyway like I said. I prefer letting people know more privatly in a whisper I appriciate them instead of voting on them to get them on a list.
