Crusader Kings II!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusader_Kings_II
Crusader Kings II is an incredible 'dark age' Europa-Asia strategy game which sees you take the role of head of a family as either a Count, Duke, King, Khan, Emperor or Caliph! I know we have a 'other game thread' but this game has an amazing multiplayer mode, and i'd love to get people together and discuss it as well properly without having to delve through the other gaming talk!
So yeah.. If you wonder what this game is, feel free to ask! It's -incredible-. I'm not big on the ROme: Total War type of games, but this one slapped me across the face and made passionate love to my brain. It's epic. Try it. Do it. Then come here and discuss it!

Favourite (mini) mod for me so far, is Rise of Empires. Let's you take any 5 duchies and turn them in to a titular kingdom. (I.e makes you a king without de jure land), and to do the same for empires with 4 kingdoms.
For example, I turned the duchies between Holstein and Lithuania in to a kingdom of Prussia.
The name is just determined by your primary title when you take the decision, so you could form a French Empire, or a Navarran Empire, or a kingdom of Milan, etc, etc. Pic related.

I like the mod as well, simply because it allows you to create an empire, therefore allowing you to have kings as vassals..

Re: Crusader Kings II!
Now that I've finally done all of those tutorials, I've actually started to play the game.
Began as Duchy of Iceland, with a Court Chaplain as a Son. Married him off to a German, and wed my own, sixty year old Character to a similar bride, also from Germany. Trying to build up some ties there.
I decided to have the other County, that was currently ruled by my one and only Vassal, ruled by my Son instead, however the fellow didn't take to kindly to it. I managed to make peace, after realizing he was -far- more powerful than me. Afterwards, I had the bastard assassinated, and kindly requested his Infant Son lay down his titles and land. He did so, and I reinstated my one and only Heir there instead.
Though I am now broke, and despite doing the tutorials, I'm still fairly unsure on ways to get money. Surely there are other ways than just Vassal income?

Go through the tutorials, perhaps watch a 'lets play' on youtube. its the kinda game you just have to try everything to work out how it works.

Vassal income is really the only source, there is collecting the tithe from your steward, marriages, ect. It's all about budget.

I've managed to bring my Brandenburg to form the Kingdom of Lithuania, and then got elected a Holy Roman Emperor...and kept the title for my heir. I also inherited the Kingdom of Poland, so now ruling a nice and powerful Empire.
If my heir gets elected AGAIN, then I can raise crown-authority even more and abolish Imperial elections and seize the power for myself...and then it is time to re-form the (western) ROMAN EMPIRE! *stares at france, spain, britain and italy*

New wee game, starting at 'the heel' county of Leece in Sicily. Unified it and realized too late that the best thing to do is colonize africa, taking it from the muslims, the Empire beat me to it!

Please tell ous more about this multiplayer mode?
Does work like you play the campaign together with others, or is it just simply battles? Thats what Rome: Total War really failed in my opinion.

You all pick a Duke, County, Duchy or Empire and then play as that. So you play the campaign together without only playing the battles.. 'cause that'd be horrible in this game XD

This is probably a slightly obvious question, but how long does it take to fabricate Claims? I sent my Chancellor off a while ago, and he appears to have come up with nothing. Can't find out how long he'll take, either.

Depends how good he is. I does take quite a while to fabricate claims if you're not lucky.

Pssst make this a grand strategy or paradox interactive thread imo
Anyway I never really got into CK2 while I loved the shit out of Victoria 2 I think its also due to the fact that the game is in english and alot of the dynasty related terms I simply do not get.

I was dissappointed by this, as well. Then I started marrying relatives off, inviting claimants to my court, and crusading. Had enough of warring that way!Lexgrad wrote:My sword is my claim and my Army my Right! /rawr
