I've never heard 'bo' before it seems to be a form of exclamation, similar to 'brap'.

Thank you, now I can feel old but understand shitty facebook stuff with that crap smeared all over it. But, this rage was enhanced while in town earlier. I heard a man clearly older than me say "Man I had a BARE SICK Nandos!".
Oh the rage... so much rage.

My sympathy for them damn slackers protesting in the street for free money and a higher pension is getting drained by the minute.
Even if they weren't protesting, what would you expect them to do? Pull a job out of their ass? There just isn't enough work for everyone atm
In the sector I'm in, they're litterally fighting for talent.
ps: Fucking NMBS striking -_- I hate this country
In-fucking-deed. I got off with 'only' a 10 hour shift today, but the week doesn't look promising. Reason for all the work? The job needs to be done, and we can't find enough people to do it. Perhaps people need to extend their comfort zone beyond their couch and they'll find plenty of interesting work.
I had a discussion with a woman from Mons (Bergen) roughly a year ago. She was a die hard socialist. Not that I mind... but I did mind her living of social wealthfare for 6 years with 2 kids to feed. With a lot of encouragement and support from her boyfriend (one of my best friends) she decided to be "one of those big folk" and go to work. After 2 weeks she resigned, because she was tired.
Sounds like the stereotype, doesn't it? Well that's the problem... It's not the handful of people that actually suffer from a situation and need the support to get through a tough time, but it's the mass of people that -choose- to suffer from a situation and play out the "it's your responsibility to give me my rights" card.
Did you check the pensions of civil servants? 75% of the average paycheck they had over the past 5 years. Past 5 years. If you are entitled to a full pension, you have 5 years of seniority as a civil servant (meaning it doesn't matter diddle squad what you did for 30 years, just as long as you finished it with 5 years of service as a civil servant), then you get a pension that's bigger than my current income after busting my balls for 5 years in the private sector. They have nearly twice the amount of vacation and get a full recuperation period for any overtime done.
If they strike for equality, they better hope they won't get it. They'd loose on the deal!

Also, wtf is wrong with these stupid universities? They ask me what day I cant make it, I tell them, but they schedule an interview on that day ANYWAYS? Now I have 2 interviews on the same day at the same exact time and another interview at the opposite end of the UK

What it means is two things:
1) There's a lot of people making drama about "omg our rights" when their rights are excessive and unaffordable. (Unless you consider it a right to have a wealthy pension at the cost of poverty for people that still work.) You will find little or no young people protesting. Why? Because they'll be handed the bill of those fuckers paralyzing our country. Our generation will have to pay twice the money for half the size of a house, compared to their parent. Our generation can't afford "living over their budget" and then shove the bill to our kids. Our generation won't be able to invent electric cars and then "forget" to actually bring them into circulation. Our generation won't be permitted to a full pension after 30 years of work, with a pension higher than most people's incomes.
2) If you look at the total expenses of the government, for pensions, you'd come to an average per person that is.. "just about okay.. ". It's on the low side. But... a lot of healthcare comes free, transport comes cheap (free?), and you get reductions on just about everything. But if you consider the amount of people who easily get 50% more, after working 15 years less, then you can easily do the math and conclude there's people out there who are living with a very, very low income. There's people out there, working their 45 years, dying early from being utterly spent to fund the pensions for a bunch of fatso's who want to claim "rights" after 30 years?
But yeah... they are protesting for "rights". They are just forgetting the rights about everybody else.
in 2010 our government had an income of roughly 40 billion euros. They spent about 50.5 billion euros in that year. Cutting down 11 billion euros isn't about cutting people's rights. It's about cutting down our expenses to what we actually can afford! To what any sane spending should be.
But yeah... They are protesting. Did you notice they have organized these protests, and their slogans, and what they protest for before it was actually known how pensions would be reorganized?
FUCK THEM!
Re: The vent thread
Oh JP. I couldn't agree more with you.
It really feels like such a clash of generations :/
(Guess it could be worse. Jeeez I was in Brussels on saturday. I've never in my life seen so many armoured cops. There were two water tanks, buses that I didn't even know the police force had. Damn matonge. )
ps: shael, if we're in the same boat, at least share your sun!!!

All in all it could be worse indeed, which is exactly why I don't understand the strikes. There's two groups of people with a right to complain: the people who risk toppling into poverty, but if you follow the changes more closely you'll see they work to protect them (as lot! ... which doesn't mean we shouldn't keep an eye on it though), and the people being served the bill... Which isn't the people protesting, but our generation slaving their asses off.
But.. all in all, despite all the shit that's been going on, Belgium is still a good country to live in. And the show you get in Brussels.. ahh.. well.. That's what Brussels pays for being what it is. We have a party every week. If it ain't some distantly related Congo families, it's some Spaniard's nephew who sneezed so loud his whole family decided to protest for it in "the capital of Europe".
As for the police force... If you like to see them in action, go to "Linkebeek" (You know, from BHV) and watch the same army of armored cops form a wall to defend 10m of cobblestones against 30 protesters. I don't like the protestor's politics there, but marching against an army of cops, being outnumbered 10 to 1 does earn them the "brave idiot" label.
The mayor of that town (which has about 4000 people total) likes to call in the big guns to make a lot of show... so he looks good on the camera with the armored trucks in the background when he says "We had to call in reinforcements from the police of Brussels to defend the rights of the French speaking community against this hate carrying demonstration of Flemmish nationalists."
Half the police is twiddling their thumbs in boredom.

Actually... the VUB in Belgium used to have (and probably still has) great support for foreign students. If it doesn't work out elsewhere, do give it a shot, Shael

Re: The vent thread
I woke up today with a heavy head. Dehydrated. Constantly the feeling of having to throw up. And worst of all, I have no balance at all. I could barely stand straight, nevermind walking in a right line.
Even when I drink, I don't get this hungover. But I havn't had that much to drink yesterday.. wtf is wrong with me o____o
The no balance thing is kinda funny though. It feels like the earth is constantly moving. Quite trippy

That happens a lot to me too, especially in the mornings if I stand up too suddenly after getting out of bed. It's cause of low blood pressure though and dehydration for me so ... drink more water and gatorade!!!!!!
