Christians and whatever other religions need to accept the fact that not everyone believes in their views and they shouldn't have control over it.I'm not sure what you consider "Proper" and neither do I want to impose myself on the wishes of your Aunt, but, if she couldn't get the proper religious treatment at her funeral, based on certain religious values, how can you then still consider those values "Proper"?My aunt was a lesbian and we couldn't even have a proper funeral for her when she died of breast cancer because of those idiots.
imo, the fact that they're bigotted idiots, holding on to values of the stone age, isn't that enough proof, that those values are stupid and you should start believing something else? or do you wish to continue in this charade, of wanting so desperately to be accepted by people that are clearly "Idiots"?
We were forced to hold her funeral in a small, 'humanitarian' room in some dingy little corner of her town. We were forced to bury her in a small, dirty looking corner of the local cemetery, because there was a church near it. Right near the nameless soldiers graves. Not in the open beside the other graves. She wasn't allowed to be buried like all the others, because she was a shameless, dirty sinner who deserved to die.
I believe I have every right to hate them.

Like for example jehoves witnesses would not allow one of there own to have a blood transfusion even if it meant saving that persons life.. so strange and the doctors carnt do a thing about it yet elswhere they can as those that refuse a transfusion are usualy not sane so doctors use that to give treetment religion stops this
regarding the Jehova's point, The person that is in danger refuses the treatment. And I see nothing wrong with that, goodluck in heaven, one less idiot on this planet. Though there are cases where parents, will decide to prevent their kids from getting treatment, these days that means that the hospital will put them under child protective services until the treatment is over, so that the state holds custody. If parents keep their kids at home due to this and the kid dies, the parents will be arrested with manslaughter or murder.. so that's not a big "discrimination" issue.

The thing is that those churches, and I'm speaking from a Dutch perspective here, are not public property. They're private property as far as I am aware. They can allow or forbid whomever they please from entering their property for whatever reason they can think of, I believe. The only thing that would be needed would be to cover this up in semi-decent reasons if one were to implement a policy forbidding entrance to some and not to others. Enter it without them allowing you to enter it, and you're trespassing.
From the/a church's perspective it would be very easy to block marrying homosexuals in church on these grounds. Even if there were laws forbidding them from denying a marriage ceremony to homosexuals this is the legal point someone could use to keep it from happening. My point is simple, laws aren't going to get you very far with regards to the church and same-sex marriage because of a variety of issues.
One note though, what I said was pure theorizing and I haven't really researched the possibility of this being done, but I find it logical that it could be done.

Do churches/religions get any financial bonuses, like not being taxated on certain things?Antistia wrote:

One thing though, in the netherlands, they should fire all those bloody "WeigerAmbtenaren" (public servants that refuse to marry same-sex couples to the state) you're living in a bloody secular country, and you're going to do what the state bloody demands you to do.

For now I think it'd be more important to make sure that imam al-Maghraoui stays the fuck out.

I would not be able to say for sure. I've not yet delved into laws regarding taxation in the Netherlands. However, as far as I am aware there is no church tax in the Netherlands (unlike in other countries like, say, Belgium) which I take as a pointer of churches not getting government subsidies here in the Netherlands. Most church income is also based on gifts in the legal sense, or simply put, donations. As most of these are not of any meaningful amounts to the government they are not taxed (as are all donations in the Netherlands under a certain value. On a sidenote this makes it very easy to rip the government off.).
So, no, the church does not receive government subsidies because it is a church. However, most of the income of churches is also not taxed. They can however receive subsidies because their church (as in the building) is seen as cultural heritage.
I'd like to stress again that I've not yet delved into taxation laws in the Netherlands so what I say is partly things I know (which may be wrong) and partly theorizing. I've not looked up in my lawbooks how it is exactly either, I'm too lazy for that. What I can tell you is that the church has a separate legal entity in the Netherlands called a 'kerkgenootschap'. This might imply some kind of special position, but I've not researched further into that.
Amaryl, I agree with you. Weigerambtenaren should be fired. They are not willing to do their jobs, someone who is unwilling to do his or her job should be fired.
