Lol what?
From memory the last few jobs we've done ic are:
- Guarding a caravan and being attacked by bandits
- Gathering information on a woman that was being stalked by strange people she didn't remember
- Rescuing a shipment of alcohol
- Rescuing a kinapped member
The majority of our ic 'work' is small-scale personal jobs, guarding, roughing people up on occasion, information gathering. I'm getting pretty sick of people flinging shit specifically at Blades for Hire especially when it's mostly people who I have NEVER seen interacting with us who mostly just seem to have jumped to the easy conclusion of BOO HISS BIG GUILD BAD.
Also the perception that mercs = thugs, criminals etc. Most medieval forces were mercenary in some form. They're a large part of the social fabric of that setting so the comments about us being 'bad for Stormwind' etc...seem somewhat....ignorant.
If this seems like a snippy/touchy reply, try being bought in as 'the bad guy' constantly by people who never interact with you...see how many times it can happen before you run low on patience.

From what I've seen of your members off duty, that's how they act. I hope you understand I don't really have anything else to base my perception of your guild members on

Re: Current state of DB RP
Argent Dawn is still heaving with roleplayers, I don't think Skyrim is to blame but it could have been a contributing factor.
We tried to, we held a handful of public events in the space of one week. When in Teldrasil we met one or two Night Elves over the three days we where there. Then only four or five opposition stood against us in Stormwind. Then nobody in Duskwood.
If this is supposedly the way to recruit nowadays then it clearly isn't working. We gained no new members from this and perhaps it even caused some people to become inactive, I know three of our members basically never logged in after this as they told me it disheartened them to see the server so inactive.
The inactivity of the Light guilds caused us to revert to inner guild roleplay, as there was no reason for us to attack the blades or the RHS (the only other two active guilds at the time). This then led to members being dependant on officers spoon feeding them roleplay otherwise they'd not log in as there was no casual/random roleplay to be found. This then lead to the downfall of the guild.
So yeah Gene, we tried (EotDR)
To Greagoir: I may have not spoke my mind correctly, as we both know what finally killed EotDR as we spoke about it shortly before it happened. I do think leadership is a major key in smaller roleplay guilds. I don't think spoonfeeding members with events becomes the solution as they tend to just end up getting used to it, only logging in when an event is on and being too dependant on inner-guild roleplay which is what is killing random roleplay.
I'm on AD now after doing a /who Duskwood and seeing 40+ roleplayers, then the next day doing the same and seeing the same numbers - at a different time. I'm still on DB yet my only character is in the Chapter and I'd be willing to play her but people are rarely online. So when I do log in, run around SW and /who a few guilds/places and see little to motivate me I just jump back on AD. I absolutely -hate- that it has came to this but it also infuriates me how stubborn and selfish certain "guilds" and roleplayers can be toward the community. We're too far spread currently, hoarding members instead of keeping a cap or something. You'd think in -Stormwind- a Merc and an Assassin guild would have a small group of members and then the law, light and civ guilds being swelled. It's the opposite and I don't see that changing unless alts come into play.

Yeah sadly, down to no opposition and a divided leadership. Both major factors. Members became unmotivated to log in unless spoon fed rp with events as they joined a cult for master/apprentice roleplay and opposition conflict. Master/apprentice roleplay was fine but it had no "rewards" due to it not mattering as we where unopposed. I think it still exists but me, Crojwin and Ondius left in the end.

well I did put a lot of my time into this cultist group, as a non officer.. I thort it was going very well.. we were still in the "small" guild status.. activity will always be low when you three jumped ship it realy did come as a supprise int realy it upset me.. yes ower oponents are offline but you need to remember there are always new cult guilds coming out saying your all doomed.. they would only ever become active (lighties) if they saw one cult guild realy started being a threat.. that asside.. i say yes and no.. there is rp to be had.. Im mostly on my cartel alt at the mo and there usualy around causing trouble

Re: Current state of DB RP
Not going to turn this into a why EotDR died but I'll make my -final- post on it.
1. Members where lazy, uncreative and waited to be spoonfed roleplay by either me or Crojwin - otherwise they'd not even log in and sit on skype playing LoL with each other.
2. Leadership was divided, Ondius was a pretty face, Lephia didn't know what she was doing and offered little in terms of proper leadership, I had enough of churning out events to have members log out and never be seen again until my next one and Crojwin felt undervalued and annoyed (aswell as I) at the state of the server. This caused a massive rift between us and we couldn't go on any longer like that.
3. Opposition and other guilds where inactive, making it near impossible for us to find "random roleplay" or "conflict roleplay" which was 1/3 of what we as a Cult guild where about.
4. Lack of discipline amongst the guild ICly and OOCly left me and Crojwin unsatisfied with the quality of certain characters, concepts and roleplay of the guild. We couldn't do anything about it.
5. Recruitment was hard, messy and started to become not worth it. RHS leeched onto the Lamb and took the majority of the potential recruits. Their guild swelled and in the Council we didn't end up having a voice when votes came into play.
6. OOC friendships between certain people in the leadership team made it difficult to get certain standards in place. Self promoting, bad roleplay and not acting IC as you should but not being disciplined for it because of OOC friendship/rank is what spurred me to leave personally in the end.
I'd like to ask kindly that nobody replies to this message. Posting it so others can learn from our mistakes. Remember to pick your leadership team carefully, if your GM is not up to scratch don't leave, take it for yourself IC, be disciplined IC and OOC and most of all keep close contact with the community, other guilds and roleplayers. Don't be hermits - come out and play!
Obviously this is my opinion and I'm sure others in the guild may disagree. At the end of the day, holding OOC relationships over the health of a guild is a risky choice. Want to emphasise too in an attempt to drill into some people that being a hermit guild-wise kills roleplay. Get out there and interact with others, stay in touch and create reasons to get out there. "My guild wouldn't do that/My character wouldn't do that" - you should delete your character or join another guild, the state of Defias doesn't warrant being selfish and secluded anymore.

Thanks for that, Lex. I was just thinking about how depressing these kinds of threads are for relative newcomers to Defias Brotherhood like me (and you apperantly). Nice to see there's at least one person out there with the same kind of sentiments.

And the reason it's like that?
Because of players who, instead of staying on their home servers to continue to help bolster RP there, decide to take the easy route and just transfer to AD. When the grass is greener on the other side, best to just walk over to the other side instead of watering your own, eh?
Not to mention, it's an RP-PvE server, and we're RP-PvP. RP-PvE will always have superior numbers due to most people being unable to handle PvP.

Though these threads do pop up every 4 months I agree that there are problems. The world seems a bit empty but that aint my biggest problem, the biggest problem is that the world is filled with AWFUL characters. They are either nobles, cultists demon overlords, super ninja assasins or generic white knights. Ontop of that you have the people that just go sitting on a bridge waiting for interaction. And then when the interaction actually happends they want to make their char look too badass to actual respond and have some casual chatter.
Imho we need to make the actual server more intresting by manning up behind our pcs and getting out there to shamelessly rp with anything or anyone and dare to use different character concepts. Be it lampposts or cracked up gnomes. If you put in effort to interact with anyone and everyone other people will be less shy to do the same and from what I've experienced in the passed an open attitude like that attracts people from other realms.

Agreed bar one point. We kinda need the generic white knights as well, they're part of the whole picture. Just like we need some demon overlords or nobles are. This begins to be a problem when only those characters can be met.Quin wrote:Though these threads do pop up every 4 months I agree that there are problems. I fail to see how most people are nobles considering the last House of Nobles had like 3 nobles at it.

Given also that the Seal, a noble guild had six noble characters out of ~200. Two of whom have since died, one is a bastard, and a fourth a mere knight.
