Mesmer is a good class but it's really boring to play and the only decent weapon is the staff.
The greatsword looks cool but has so little survivability.
With the staff I never died once in WvW.

I was originally intending to level a human warrior first, but at this stage my plan is to go: Norn Ranger -> Asura Engineer -> Human Warrior -> Norn Necromancer -> Human or Sylvari Elementalist.

I'm thinking Norn ( Vikings, Yaay! ) or Charr ( Steampunk war furries ). Anyone who have an idea what classes are fun? I used to play warrior/monk in Guild wars 1, but I'm after some kind of heavy dps class, not much of a magic user, always been close combat mostly.

There's quite a bit of commentary that melee is subpar when compared to range, but I think it depends on the enemy. If you have a ranged dps kiting a mob, a melee can do more damage than the ranged.

Spyre, Warrior or Thief's prolly the best pick for you. Regret not having given Warrior much attention this weekend, but they ripped me open (those who knew what they were doing anyway) on various occasions in PvP. They both have ranged options, if you're concerned.

John Peters came out with a statement. Rightout telling that melee right now did more damage than ranged. But where harder to play.
And some other stuff about it etc.

The unofficial server for Guild Wars 2 roleplay is Petrified Forest I do believe, it doesn't have the same ring as "Defias Brotherhood" but it'll suffice.

Well... we 'did' stop using swords and start using guns for a reason.

Human Mesmer (Street Performer); Dual Dagger Elementalist (Mercenary); Charr Engineer (Charr, nuff 'said). Oh god I'm already planning out my characters, I need an intervention.

Really interested in all the little features they've added in to GW2 like the questing system, though it gathers a mass of complaints I think it looks a little more interesting than the standard procedure. Though, it will have downsides... no?

To those of you who played the beta: What was your favourite thing about the game?

Guardians are OP if played correctly, yeah. I was pretty much unstoppable until I was forced into an underwater fight with a bloody thief.

All my rp plans for my Human Mesmer got changed by the storyline they presented.

Gone is the pirate, rogue and gentleman thief and in it's place is a rogue-ishly handsome gentleman that lives by "With nobility comes responsibility" and faithfull follower of Lyssa. I can't wait to rp that out, I even know how he'll refer to other races, well, most of them.
