I don't think the graphics are particularly bad, they're very stylised. However, they don't look like they will age very well.

Actually the aestetic they've chosen to go with will age rather well. Since it's very much a not "realistic" look.
My problem is it is that it looks like the bad cartoon series/movie just more polished. I hated that look, I really don't like this one.
Environments look fantastic on high settings on the other hand.
Sadly, many aestetic choises clash. The cinematics at start up look fantastic, but they really don't prepare you for the rest of the game.
After that it's really a hit or miss look I'd say. Some will really like it, others will really dislike it. Some will just find it "meh" or other don't really care versions.
My biggest problem was that the game mechanics didn't fit the rest of the aestetic. Game said "This is a fancy flowing game" Game played "Okay, press you buttons and things happen, but not in a well flowing way."
After playing a lot of both Skyrim and Skyward Sword this month the fact that you only hit one target at a time with a sweeping Light Saber slash really doesn't feel good.
It looks and feel dumb. Doesn't fit how the game looks.
I've said it in other places. I want to know the story. I'll be much surprised if I don't check out all the cutscens for the Sith melee class once it's been released to know the story of it.
But I won't be able to handle playing it out. I know I don't want to pay tons of money to do so.
I got to almost level 5. I didn't want to play to reach level 10. Big problem.

Guess I'll be looking at GW2 then, I've seen some really bad reviews for this. Shame, I love the Sith.

Indeed.
PvP, Instances, and quests: Guild runs, 40 mans, 2 factions and 2 years from dumbed down lore for the kids. There will be the odd new twist and stuff but it is like a 90s action movie, same old story different settings. I want new!

I defeated by prejudice and played a bit at friends aparment.
Well it's not -that- bad as I expected, but I would not pay monthly fee for a decent SINGLEPLAYER game.

If you compare how WoW looks today with most games from 2004 WoW looks pretty darn increddible.Lyniath wrote:WoW is cartoony, and hasn't aged well at all.
And Dharum, had the game just had a better combat "flow" I would have loved the single player version indeed!

WoW was always INTENDED to look the way it does.
Less dark and grim. So you can't compare the cartoony and graphics about it, since it was intended.

I know, it's just that It was fairly average graphics for 2004, and since graphics tech has advanced a lot since then, WoW looks VERY old these days.
Of course there have been a few engine updates with the water and lighting etc, but still. Old game is old.

Half-Life 2 is a completely different art style.
WoW is intended to look how it does. It is not intended to be realistic. It has not aged poorly, because it looks exactly how it desires to look.

WoW looks OLD yes. It does, it does look old, since comparably it is old. But it still looks good considering its age.
While tons of game from that year that chose a more "realistic" aestetic look like shit.

Anyone playing this? I missed the beta weekend

Re: Anybody else in here looking to try SW TOR when it hits?
Beta weekend is currently going, and I'm playing a currently level 20 Bounty Hunter, exploring Balmorra's gorgeous war-torn scenery.
My two main complaints about this game are that A) The lack of space in your quickbar is very damn inconvenient (It's about 25% smaller than WoW's but you have just as many abilities at low levels in TOR as you do at mid-60-70 in WoW) and B) The profession (Companion Skill) system is rather inconvenient and annoying.
Also, Trooper and Bounty Hunter are virtually identical in playstyle. I'm thinking the Advanced Classes make a big difference but it still feels weak.

Only gotten to level 5 on a Bounty hunter and a Jedi consular but I was pleasantly impressed by it.
Definitely going to pick it up some time after release and play it, if only for the first month. We'll see after that if I have time/want to RP.

Re: Anybody else in here looking to try SW TOR when it hits?
Played the game twice over the beta weekend, and levelled two characters to 10. The first time I played it was as a Sith Inquisitor, and picked Rattataki as my race. Felt alright to begin with, smooth combat with only a couple of skills. Usual early-game set-up. Was somewhat impressed by the way the quests were handled, grind-quests excluded; instead handled as little "bonuses" that grant experience points upon completion.
The handicaps of an MMO - dumbed down gameplay; lacking graphical power; limits of choice - really didn't fit with the Bioware standard I've come to expect, with games such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age(The first one, not the ballad of Hawk Bedroomeyes and his harem). Though you could have choices in the game, there was no discerning in rewards. I could stab a woman with my lightsaber and throw her off a cliff; and I'd still get the same end-result as if I gave her a poodle, and some ice cream.
Played the second time through with a friend. Hoo boy, actually was a lot better. He was sarcastic bastard of an Imperial Agent; I was the rough credit-hungry bounty hunter. While our choices did become similar at some points in the game, a lot of contrasts made the "group-conversations" during questing pretty damned hillarious.
One minute he'd be using a silver-tounge on some target we were sent to grab; the next I'd be punching it in the face, shouting where my damned credits were. Then with Darkside/lightside choices, we both sort of went "ooooooh" at how brutal/ridiculous they could be. I (personally) liked the idea of Light and Dark side choices, giving more of a choice to your character's personality. Even as a Sith, you could struggle to come to grips with a conscience; or as a Jedi you could just be a dick.
Would write more 'bout the adventures during the beta, but I think most of what I've written is incoherant babble at this time of night. Unsure of if I should buy SWTOR, or leave it for a little while. It's lack of talking animations; turning animations; stiff (could just be my computer) controls; and lack of open-world irk me. Though not enough so to stop me enjoying the whole thing.

Re: Anybody else in here looking to try SW TOR when it hits?
One thing is worth noting, Mikhael, that Light side/Dark side choices sometimes affect the your reward you get.
Light side options as a Bounty Hunter (choosing to let people go while you present fake evidence of their death) for example tends to warrant you more credits because A) They give you credits to spare them and B) Will often mail you even more credits later once they're far away and safe.
That's just what I've noticed while leveling my BH. I think it's quite a nice touch.
