The Mistmantle Legacy
Background
The Mistmantles was given their noble privileges and a small patch of land in the part of Elwynn forest now known as the Duskwood shortly after the first war. It is said they mostly kept to themselves mostly with the exception of the odd tour to Grand Hamlet (now known as Darkshire) by the Baroness and her two children. As the second war came the Baron left the manor and never returned again, supposedly slain in battle.
Shortly after the death of the Baron the manor was burnt to the ground under mysterious circumstances. It was said that in the smouldering remains of the once proud manor the young Braiden Mistmantle was the only one found alive, bruised and full of soot but otherwise unharmed. The incident was officially proclaimed an act of cultism by the church of the holy light even tough no cultist was found and brough to justice, shortly after Braiden Mistmantle was sent abroad to study. This led to rumours in the city of Grand Hamlet; some said that the Baroness had been a witch, others said that it was an attempt to cover up the fact that orcs were on the rise and had been attacking the manor however neither of the rumours were confirmed.
A year after the tragic incident the manor was rebuilt and a tutor named Stalvan Mistmantle arrived from Westfall to take care of the manor until Braidens return. The rest as they say, is history...
Common Knowledge
-What's actually commonly known about your character/family/legend?
The Mistmantle family name inspires fear in the hearts of most ordinary men and women of the Duskwood. The very land surrounding the manor is said to have been cursed before the rest of the woods and that any man that spends too much time there will go insane as a result of that curse. Few but those who lived it remembers the full troubled past of the family, the legend mostly lives on trough Stalvans name.
-Who would know about it? Everyone in the region? Residents of Darkshire? etc.
Most children of Darkshire are told the legend of Stalvan and the curse of Manor Mistmantle.
Additional Information
This is a selective, rewritten part of the background story I wrote for Braiden and the Mistmantles. I have tried to keep as much as possible clear from the actual Stalvan story as it is described in game while still adding enough to make it exiting. Hope you people will enjoy this Duskwood legend.

Re: The DB Duskwood Lore Project
Right, found the webpage with the calculations: http://www.io.com/~sjohn/demog.htm
I misremembered some about my calculations though, but here it is:
I misremembered some about my calculations though, but here it is:
- Spoiler:
- Right... according the the site the suggested formula for the largest city in the realm is: P x M. Where P is the square root of the population and M is a number between 12 to 18.
Stormwind's population is either 50 or 200 thousand. This means that the population of the entire kingdom is...
If 50k: between 17, 361 million and 7,716 million.
If 200k: Between 277,8 million and 123,5 million.
I generally go with the 7,7 m at this point. The other figures just feel so insanely big
The second largest city, Goldshire in Stormwind's case, will have a population between 80 and 20% of Stormwind's. Therefore between 40 and 10 k. That's right, goldshire can too be bigger than Ironforge
Next city in size, which I usually peg as Eastvale, will have a population between 90 and 60% of Goldshire. So between 36 and 6 k.
Next city, which I figure is Northshire, 32,4 and 3,6 k.
Next, formerly moonbrook (it's larger than sentinel hill), 29,16 and 2,16 k.
Next, Lakeshire, 26,2 and 1,296 k.
Next, westbrook, 23,6 k and 780
Darkshire, 21, 3k and 467
Formerly Raven Hill 19,1k and 280
Sentinel Hill 17, 2k and 168
and up to 7 additional cities (population over 8k)
The nation can thus have between 1 and 17 cities. Darkshire may or may not be among them, depending on how high you rank that settlement.
Also, some fun numbers:
Darkshire would at max have: 106 noble households (and at least 1), 10 inns (and minimum of 0), 53 taverns/resturants (min 0), 12 doctors (min 0), 14 blacksmiths (min 0) and around 142 guardsmen.
It would cover about 349 acres (1413 square kilometers) at maximum and 1 acre (4 square kilometers) at minimum.

Name of Family/Character/Legend
The Caan Clan
Background
The Caan clan was born through the marriage of Kaden Caan and a woman by the name of Jessica Hawthorn. Due to Jessica’s ties to nobility, though not directly a noble, her choice of husband was frowned upon heavily. Because of Kaden’s simple roots and the fact he was a mercenary the two of them decided to leave the area of Lordaeron in which Jessica had resided for her whole life. Many of Jessica’s friends and distant relatives chose to follow them in this venture. They soon ended up in the forests of Duskwood, though, close to the Elwynn edge, as it was still known at the time. They cleared an area of its woodland and wildlife and steadily, over the years, built themselves a village in which to live. It is unknown exactly when they arrived, but it is believed to have been a very early settlement in terms of villages and homesteads in that area.
After roughly a year of residing there and requiring an occupation, the villagers agreed with Kaden’s suggestions. He dubbed them the ‘Caan clan’ and everyone in the village took the name. They began to offer themselves to local authorities as a mercenary force, and Kaden took it upon himself to begin training each villager that put his or her name forward. They enjoyed many years of acting as additions to forces in any battle they could attend, and the village itself seemed to flourish, with many new lives being added to the mix. However, it was during this time some of the higher authority figures began to despise the Caans. It was evident that their fighting skill was high, but some felt that it made a mockery of their own forces and sought to end the Caan’s involvement in their affairs. So, they planned a fake meeting regarding a battle and it would mean Kaden Caan was never seen again.
After his death, Jessica gave birth a son, who she promptly gave his father’s namesake. This was a tradition that would continue on through the main bloodline of the Caans. Jessica began to twist the Caans, after the death of Kaden and in the process twisted her son. By the time he would take control of the clan, it was a bloodthirsty pack of bandits. They would spend their days and nights, quietly roaming the woodland and dirt tracks, murdering anyone for their riches, this included any travelling caravans. They would frequently attack any other settlements in the area, and although it was often thought that the militia of these settlements could wipe them out, the Caans always managed to live, in their village hidden in the woodland.
They would continue down this path of blood and barbaric behaviour, until their demise.
Common Knowledge
The clan’s existence, even if through “legend” would quite likely be common knowledge to anyone that has lived in Duskwood for more than five years, especially to those that have lived there for most of their life. Therefore it would also be common knowledge that the clan were a bunch of ruthless, violent and corrupt people, who only sought to do harm, pillage and do as they wished. The clan itself would, as I see it, have been feared during the time that it was still breathing.
Additional Information
This is a very condensed version of everything I've written about the Caan clan and their presence in Duskwood and beyond, in the last five years. I figured this entry should be kept as short as I can, without leaving out too much detail.
Though the clan itself is no longer in the forests of Duskwood, having been wiped out by a mix of the plague and one of their own sons, there are some living remnants:
Ledgic Kaden Caan - Ledgic is the only living son of the clan's main bloodline. He is the son of the clan's final leader and still frequents the ruins of his village. It may be common knowledge that Ledgic is alive, after being a large part of Stormwind city for so long, but I leave that up to every player to decide for themselves.
Valerias Caan - Valerias is Ledgic's cousin and stems from the main bloodline herself. She also frequents the village ruins. Her Caan blood will most likely be unknown to anyone she hasn't informed of it.
Zech Caan - Zech is the oldest of the living Caans and a man who sat at the very bottom of the ladder. He fought alongside other clan members to pillage and kill, so whether any victim of an attack is being RP'd, it's possible that nobody would know of him. However, Zech would never hide his history or clan name.
There are also children of these living clan members, that will be detailed at some point in the future.
