Gilneas - The Roleplaying Community
Gilneas is a large peninsula that juts into the sea south of western Lordaeron. After the end of the Second War, King Genn Greymane constructed the Greymane Wall: a massive barrier spanning the entire northern border. The enormous wall barricades Gilneas from Lordaeron. Following the end of the Third War and the closing of the Greymane Wall the Worgen curse has swept mercilessly across the nation, turning nearly all of its inhabitants to savage beasts. However, the denizens managed to retained their will after unleashing a bloody civil war that wrecked the whole nation. Following the Cataclysm and an invasion by the Forsaken, Gilneas has rejoined the Alliance. With the aid of the 7th Legion the remaining Gilneans have sucessfully maintained a hold over their nation and refugees that since evacuated to the Kaldorei capital have gradually begun to return.
The Roleplaying Community
Since the first trailer of Cataclysm introduced us to the Kingdom of Gilneas properly it has been the intention of myself (and others) to turn the nation into a hub of roleplaying for the Defias Brotherhood server. Even after only three months following the launch of the content I very much like to think that we have been successful in this effort. The Greymane Era all but exclusively has hosted its roleplaying both casual and its events in the nation on a daily and weekly basis from the first days of its creation (7th December) and intend to continue this practice – We have no thus far actively advertised our activity within the nation and has therefore led to various questions on whether or not we remain active or are actually going along with achieving our intended goals. The answer to these is a confident “Yes, we are” with our active and steady base of members together with hosting weekly events and daily roleplaying in the kingdom as well as visitors and contributions from other guilds that are not focused on Gilneas exclusively. Various other guilds and individuals have assisted in this effort such as; SI:7, Kingdom of Stromgarde, The Broken Sword and even Horde guilds such as the Cult of Shadow all whether they were aware of this or not and thus credit should be given where credit is due.
The intention is this whole thread is to advertise the Ruins of Gilneas a hub of roleplaying for the Defias Brotherhood community and further realise our goals of bringing more people and by extension roleplaying to the zone; whether Horde or Alliance, Worgen or Night Elf, Casual or WPvP. This project is on-going, having been set up and planned on since the first days of Cataclysm’s announcement and running since the opening days of its launch. We have been successful thus far and do not intend to stop now.
Prior to the Forsaken Invasion, the Mangy Mastiff was heralded as one of Gilneas' most popular and best drinking establishments. Situated on a small hill overlooking the rest of Keel Harbour the Mastiff was a common port-of-call (with only the slightest pun intended) for fishermen, ship captains and even travellers from as far as Emberstone Village to sample its fabled ale. Although supplies began to dwindle during the closing of the Greymane Wall the brewers of Gilneas saw fit to create their own brews that most deemed far superior to those of foreigners - Even the Dwarves (Those from outside of the nation have been known to repute this claim but then what do they know?).
With Gilneas now once again in the hands of its countrymen, the Mangy Mastiff is to be reopened under the ownership of Mister Geoffrey Colebright. With refugees from Darnassus returning to their homes, the 7th Legion and other Alliance forces and even some (fool hardy) travellers arriving via the harbour the pub is in a prime location for business!
What is The Mastiff?
Inns, pubs, taverns, whatever you wish to call them are all natural and popular locations for roleplayers to congregate and interact with one another. The intention of The Mangy Mastiff was to establish one of these within Gilneas, something that everybody would be familiar and comfortable with whilst we take greater, more unique, strides to bring people’s attention to our goals. On most nights during the week you are liable to find members of The Greymane Era about the Mastiff and by extension Keel Harbour. This has led to further roleplayers from outside of the guild basing themselves, for however long, in the harbour town to take part – In this regard the Mangy Mastiff has been successful in its intention of creating a natural spot for people to come together and find each other to interact. As a result of this we intend to begin hosting special “Mastiff Nights” on a Tuesday; whilst the pub certainly has itself plenty of roleplaying this often tends to be random and unaffiliated by any specific events. This is not a bad thing by any means of course (more roleplay in whatever form is never a bad thing) however for those not a part of the guild it can be rather difficult for them when to know that they should drop by to take part. In any event feel free to /Who Ruins of Gilneas or /Who The Greymane Era to see if anybody is currently active within the zone and feel free to come on down.
Although most of the Gilneans were evacuated to Darnassus, a group of Gilnean worgen and humans remained behind and formed the Gilneas Liberation Front, and organization with the goal of driving the Forsaken from Gilneas. Under the leadership of Lord Darius Crowley, the GLF forces started operating not only in Gilneas, but also in Silverpine Forest as well, and soon claimed several victories. Due to the GLF having much less numbers than the Forsaken, they use guerilla and ambush tactics against the Forsaken, making attacks of opportunity. As most of the Forsaken forces were occupied fighting the worgen, the 7th Legion sank entire Horde fleet with and invaded Gilneas and thus the Forsaken were driven back into Silverpine Forest and Gilneas was at last liberated. Though Gilneas is free of the Forsaken for the moment, the border remains a hot spot between the Horde and Alliance where both sides fight for control in the Battle for Gilneas.
For King & Country!
Gilneas as it stands is currently in the hands of the Grand Alliance. This does not however mean that factions on both sides of the wall are not engaged in fighting with each other. The battle over the outer territories of Gilneas on the tip of Silverpine Forest are in a constant state of changing hands with the village of Pyrewood and keep of Shadowfang being the primary focus of these skirmishes. Even after only three months of going live these territories have seen plenty of combat between the members of The Greymane Era & Cult of Shadow as well as their allies in SI:7, The Three Hammers and Sin Belore. Gilneas is a land ravaged by conflict and we intend to get this across through our roleplaying both casual and as a part of player versus player events. Both parties are willing and indeed wanting of further conflict in the territories to better represent the state of the nation. There are consequences to this; territory is lost and claimed rather than merely scraping and then forgetting all about it the night after, casualties are lost, characters captured and the like. There is a large potential for roleplay based around this conflict that we intend to exploit and have done so already. Looking for a fight? Give us a shout.
Arathorians never die.
Gilneans never lose.
Events
Events are the cornerstone of roleplaying, being great for both personal enjoyment as well as the development of a person’s character and their relationships with others both Alliance and Horde. We are quite fortunate that Gilneas provides us with a completely blank slate in terms of what we can do with the nation; there is little lore dictating what is going on at the present with the exception of hostilities with the Horde and all of the zone is devoid of NPC life (bar the odd sheep and mastiff critter). The setting of conflict and war also provides a great excuse to get involve in some fighting between factions (as elaborated on above) whilst the afore mentioned blank slate leads to actual consequences and a changing environment based on the results rather than been forced to 'pretend' these occur due to the spawning of a faction's hostile NPCs or other mobs. Initially most of our events were restricted to the members of The Greymane Era and invited participants however recently we have made strides to create and advertise more public opportunities for people to take part the first of which being the opening of the Mangy Mastiff which proved to be rather the success. Keep your attention aimed towards both this thread and the Event forum for further public invitations.

Anyhow, maybe this should get a group as well? Gilneas has a large community over the Horde and the Allaince side as well, it deserves a group I'd say.
