Suggested RP themed guilds
Over the years i have had thoughts about many ideas of themes for guilds, feel free to steal them as i will never get around to forming them myself.
Perhaps others could put in ideas themselves.
Forsaken Lordaeron guild.
Consisting of basically forsaken that still cling to their Alliance past and still bear the crest and insignia of the realm.
Would be good to se a formation of similarly dressed warriors etc marching upon an enemy.
There are many items that carry the Lordaeron Emblem, so would not be that hard to do.
Pirates! (YAARRR!!))
This might sound obvious, but i haven't seen a pirate guild on Defias yet in the past 3 years.
Think about the funky hats and the amount of rum that could be drunk!
Angry peons/townsfolk (Low level Alt guild)
Lots of low level chars to use in events that are called for it weilding pitchforks, meat cleavers etc. Perhaps even used as "Doom sayers" and roam about the place in a crowd spreading gossip about the end of the world (whilst hitting each other like flagelents)
Ooh.. i did have a couple more but in writing my mind seems to have gone blank....
Anyway, list other ideas if you have any!

Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
I was going to reserve these for a different time someday... But it might very well be I'll never find time to do them
- Fanatical 'Sisters of Battle'-like guild. Not necessarily Light fanatical, but fanatical about battle and murdering everything that stands in their way. It would be a (IC) women only club. They're mean, they had their babies stolen and now they want revenge! They would adhere a strict rule system that.... eh.. goes into quite some 'details'.
Limited to a select number of members, high demands on the IC and OOC aspect. Active in W-PvP, both during events and outside them.
- People's Order. I guess I'm line with your idea there. A rebelling order that begins to promote a different view on society... and a different hierarchy. Tired of all the misery people had to go through, they start blaming a whole lot of things, including anything too magical. Combined with a new social system, they silently try to take over the governance of towns until they would be large enough to manifest themselves in the city. Of course, in due time this would lead to an inevitable clash with the authorities which is also why I felt this guild would "have to" die ICly at some point. The order would be fanatical about "laws" that protect people and society... Red uniforms would be mandatory and it wouldn't hurt to play a bit on the Nazi caricature, but playing overly serious IC and displaying OOC humor through it would be mandatory. Think this theme:
- Profession based guild. Small perhaps, but the purpose is to follow the style of -a real- guild historywise. The purpose would be to lend our service to wherever we can, contributing in W-PvP, adventures and city life. Ie: a dedicated blacksmith and mining guild. Might also delve into Free Masonry or similar things.

Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
quick note...
Belserdens pirate guild, Royal Ravagers, are always recruiting
complete with hats, parrots, rum and ships! what more could you want?
oh, and with the peoples order idea... isn't that essentially every criminal guild in existance trying to get rid of the Chapter? though, i LOVE the idea.. especially the Starship Troopers music. Kudos to you, my good sir!

Given the feudal conditions of most kingdoms here (like Stormwind), something more fitting would be a Bolshevik-like agitation of the masses, stump orating, promising a future in which all the enthusiastically-listening poor peasants will be equal to those pesky royals, nobles, and mages, and possibly organizing mass protests/crafter's strikes/riots. :PJeanpierre wrote:- People's Order. Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
I've always wondered, would a political guild similar to the ones available today (ofcourse, tailored to Azerothian Lore) be considered feasible?
Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
You mean similar to an actual political party? Or an actual guild?
Guilds still exist, though with much less power than they did. Guilds would undoubtedly have massive influence in a world such as WoW (especially in Stormwind?). Power over trade and control of land.
Political parties for the main would not fit the world. Maybe a left-leaning "Labour" party. As in, a party for the labourers. Something much more like the above idea... a "Peasant's Revolt". Watt Tyler et al.
But is there even such thing as a true political spectrum in WoW for a political party to exist within? I'd not thought there were elections etc in WoW. Kings and Warlords rule by supreme might, hereditary power, or ancestral right.

A wandering faire, consisting of entertainers of all kinds, hired by people for various ocassions, from weddings to markets and balls to self organized events etc., whileleading a rather nomadic life, constantly traveling around Azeroth and setting camps whose locations depend on their current performances.
I've seen this concept being very successful on AD with the guild The Fablewind Faire. They're a amazing bunch and the concept is very much liked by everyone who has seen them perform or has RPed with them, because they're simply that good ^^

I do like the idea of a wandering Faire, a "troupe"/ circus etc. Very fitting and with cross-faction possibilities. I always wanted a Bard class . But this could fit anyone and everyone, from food sellers to bearded ladies. So even Mandui could find employment.
For me there is Brock Dem Labz Incs idea, an arms manufacturer, working for both sides. Or anyone who is stupid enough to buy. But thats me, and already done (by others too maybe?).
A wandering, nomadic sect of some major religion too. Not like a cult. But more like the saddhu of Hinduism.
A postal service (picking up, or covering the ingame mail service).
The Great Library (and it's staff). No idea if this is actually "administered" on Alliance side.
Maybe more to come. Need tea.

Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
Wasn't there an angry mob-guild around for a while? Remember a riot in SW some time ago that was spectacular thanks to them.
And the Forsaken Lordaeron guild idea, I suppose it would be Forsaken that has yet to realize that the Lordaeron they once knew is no more. But they'd be somewhat like that Marshal Redpath in the Forsaken starting quests and be hostile to other Forsaken. So I think that'd be hard to work out.

The Crimsons is more or less hostile. It could be a ''Argent subfaction'' as Leonold the Exalted or what ever he's called. ^^

Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
Aye, the Royal Ravagers are out and about but, alas, I could never join. That (pirate) ship sailed long ago on another server and nothing could ever hope to rival the beauty of it.
I can never quite remember their name but I remember a half a dozen to a dozen rampaging about Stormwind the morning after the Seal lost it's guard rights. Harassing the clergy, rioting infront of the Command Centre/Cathedral, as well as complaining about all the things the peasants in game complain about. Taxes, towers behind their farms, gnolls etc. I thought it was very well done.
The final straw for Geneviève however was being proclaimed a future martyr of the revolution and being told she should lead them in overthrowing the King's corrupt Council and the Blazing Shields to free the King of their influence. That put Gen into quite the patriotic self rightious rage, I don't think they liked her quite as much after that. :S
That said, I would love to see the guild emerge from irregular alt activities to irregular alt activities with a few of what security services call 'hard core rioters', they often don't take part (too dangerous) they worm through the crowd inciting violence and daring people to do stuff like throw rocks until things escalate. Bolshevik agitators, Marxist theorists, rallies on the Cathedral steps, chaos and anarchy for all!
Just make sure you're this!
The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyr'd dead
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.
Then raise the scarlet standard high,
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here
And not this...
The people's flag is palest pink
It's not as red as you might think.
White collar workers stand and cheer
Your Labour government is here.
We'll change the country bit by bit
so no-one will notice it.
And just to show we're still sincere
We'll sing the Red Flag once a year.

Re: Suggested RP themed guilds
Kalimdor Corsairs is actually a pirate guild on Horde side and has quite a few members; and they aren't your 'half lollers and people who don't know how to RP' their members are really good RPers, having RPed with some in Thunder Bluff.
The idea of a Lordaeron Forsaken guild always sounds good, only problem is I think when it comes to guild ideas for one specific race there tends to be a recruitment war, especially if the race isn't as (role)played as others (Forsaken, Tauren, Draenei, Gnome etc.) meaning it would be a relatively small guild since alot of the hardcore Forsaken RPers are in The Cult of Shadow. Nevertheless I like the idea. (I myself want to make a Forsaken character decked out in full Scarlet Crusade gear and have him clinging to his humanity)
Angry Peons and Townsfolk are something that we've seen in the past (especially to spice SW RP at around the time of the cataclysm pre-events); someone could easily just make a guild called and have a bunch of level 1 alts in it, and then people can just log on to their alt if an event requires such people.

Its all well and good coming up with these niche ideas, the issue isn't that people aren't willing to try them so much as they all bugger off back to their Golden Boy paladins the moment the novelty wears off and these things go down the pancrack after at most a week or so.
Try them out by all means but actually spend a fair while planning for contingency because inevitablly you need to keep people fixed on their seats like a bomb will go off if they move - Pardon the shite metaphor but you get the jist of it.

I thought for a brief moment Djego (Amaryl?) was doing something like it. Originally, I had a few ideas to include these dudes in several things, but... Somehow I lost track of it. I'll bug him/her again... Hm.
I've actually heard a similar idea before and I think it could work... If you include an insurance of delivery and a vow of silence... *hint hint*grufftoof wrote:A postal service (picking up, or covering the ingame mail service).
You might end up in the middle of a hornet's nest of criminals, guards, nobles and military orders.
This is funny to read I actually had started preparing this on my program when I was considering going for Minister of Education.grufftoof wrote:The Great Library (and it's staff). No idea if this is actually "administered" on Alliance side.
It might not work as a guild only thing, but it might as a non guild based order.

There was once "The Old Lordaeron" a forsaken only guild. Used to be -the- Forsaken guild. Ahwile back we had the idea of reviving it, but the idea kind of vaned when people only told us back "But there's already a forsaken only guild! derp"

Would it be possible to pull off a socialist-themed guild that could prove accurate to lore? Something where, for example, the peasants would aim to overthrow the upper-classes and distribute their wealth amongst the other peasants? A revolutionary guild where the people would wish to create a "Democracy" (ofcourse, being WoW, they would never succeed)? If I could squeeze a concept similar to Jante Law in there, then all the better.

Been quite many pirate guilds on alliance side since the server started but they usually don't last more than a month or two.

Stranded Pirates was the only pirate one I knew Horde side, so when it died, a lot of the old members followed me and we made our own crew. A few rival guilds started up, but they were having a hard time competing with recruitment. x)

Twilights Hammer Guild.
With elemental summonings, encrypted messaging, secret meetings and city-wide coersion and confusion.
Would give the guards some detective work eitherway, and i have always loved the Twilights hammer, they are awesome.

Isn't this kinda what the Defias Brotherhood started out as? Disgruntled masons who were shafted after they helped create Stromwind (or fix it, I forget), who voted with their feet. And knives...
Then again, maybe I got their origins wrong :p

Well, since you guys are discussing a political guild too.. Once upon a time I was brainstorming about creating a guild with Cerrania (actually, I created it but never launched it, so to speak). While what is being discussed here is a socialist guild, mine, ironically was more of a fascist guild. Fascist isn't exactly the best description either, the goal of the guild was to reestablish a Thalassian monarchy. Not just a monarchy, but an absolute monarchy. There was opposition to a divided Silver Circle (Silvermoon council) at the very least and downright hostility to the very idea of outside influences on the king at best. Any and all democratic initiatives were, naturally, despised. There was an idea of what an "Ideal elf" would be, it would've been very pro-army (as in, we wuntz a strongz armyz) etc.
I also figured that it required an active political scene amongst the Blood Elves to work (which there currently just isn't) but that it could work without it if played right and incorporated an innate rivalry within the guild into the lore to provide this. Having it work might have required a few hypocrisies in the way the guild operated though. It'd require, I believe, a democratic process in the guild to fuel the rivalry between the two factions amongst others.
I had the lore written down before I put the project on hold. I'll share it here, but to state the obvious; Nothing of it is to be used without my explicit permission.
What the page is lacking though is the goals of the guild IC, the ranking system (the one I had thought of so far would be very much like the Chapter's as I considered that to be the most fitting to what I had in mind), a clear description of the ideology and probably a few things I had thought up but forgotten about.
The lore also wasn't finished, it needed to be refined a bit and maybe it should also have been rewritten.
