Re: The "other game thread"
D2 was released eleven years ago when people being able to be connected 24/7 was for most an impossibility.
Today more and mor developers are walking away from offline gameplay. If you can play SCII's singleplayer offline would be more relevant. Even if it doesn't have an Online AH.

Re: The "other game thread"
D3 does unfortunately require Internet connection all the time, even when playing singleplayer. In fact, there's no distinction between singleplayer and multiplayer characters.
Having to be connected to be able to play doesn't bother me at all since I'm used to having internet connection wherever I go. If I go to a place that has no connection, it's usually one of the reasons I'm going there in the first place.

It's gonna be fun to see how that real money AH thing works out when people start duping the best gear in the game...
Anyway, none of those bullet points really bother me, I already know I'm gonna have stupid amounts of fun and be horribly sleep depraved LANing D3 up once it's out. :3

Why? There are offline LANs in the 10's?

Re: The "other game thread"
I have heard some rumours about D3 not having LAN connect capabilities. Supposedly it was quite a bit of outrage around that.

Everyone in the LAN connects to BNet and joins the same game. Problem solved. At least that seems to be what Oskar was after.Muzjhath wrote:I have heard some rumours about D3 not having LAN connect capabilities. Supposedly it was quite a bit of outrage around that.

Re: The "other game thread"
While the AH debacle is a roadsign for Blizzard's choise of development direction in itself, dropping mod support just seems like a massive shooting oneself in the foot manoeuvre. Especially if you consider that the AH was probably one of the factors that added to it being scrapped.
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if this is supposed to be a prototype for Titan either, just to toss it out there.
EDIT: Also, y'know, this.

My biggest beef with D3 is how I heard lately that they won't have skill points. Attribute points will just rise automaticly when you level.
Just, what is that? What happened to leveling MY OWN FUCKING CHARACTERS? The way I WANT THEM TO BE?
Just... what the crap blizzard, give me my skillpoints back!

They literally said it was because they didn't want more intelligent players to have an advantage over less intelligent players because they assigned their skill points better, cool game blizzard

In other words. They are designing the game like a salesman goes about trying to sell a product.
KISS. Keep it stupid simple. (or simple stupid depends on who you ask)
Which is just idiotic. Intelligent players should have an advantage just because of the fact they think. And it's not like D2 didn't have a metric ton of guides out on the internet for how you can build your character.
Making sure you made the character right was one of the best things with game back in the day, you had to be careful with how you developed something else you were screwed.

Many great games out there but nothing beats Heroes of Might and Magic III, still awesome, the quality is amazing, from hand-drawn portraits of heroes to the amazing music!
What are your favourite factions? I like Tower cause of the great ranged options but my fav must be Fortress, epic defending!

Yes, but the gaming industry and market changed as well. The audience changed. It's larger, and thus to appeal to this larger audience, they have to break it down to a more accessible format. I don't consider Brittney Spears decent music either, but she sells more records than the local artists I believe to be a true musician/singer.
It's all about entertainment. Wow changed in a similar way.. And look at Diablo 2 within the spirit of its own time. It was a rather accessible hack and slash game compared to more RP-like competitors. You had talent trees, true, and then you had... 2 buttons. Hm. Let's... try to emphasize that again.. 2 buttons. And one button was optional, probably because they wanted it compatible with Mac... lol
Anyways... I wouldn't be surprised they let skills and talents develop naturally, to trade it with more skills being usable at the same time. Instead of having to choose between 10 talents, you get them all. Instead of 2 buttons, you might get 10. That might make it more interesting I think.
Re: The "other game thread"
Well considering the highest grossing game developer last year was fucking Zynga we know where gaming is headed

Facebook and smartphone gamers are people too
But srsly. That huge new demographic is the reason for the dumbing down of mostly every new game. They have to l2game, so it's the early 90ies all over again :<

When I was your age, I was happy with 6 buttons, 1 attack and a single dot to show an eye.

I forgot 2 buttons.
Ahem.
When I was your age, I was happy with 8 buttons, 1 attack and a single dot to show an eye.
I'm talking about the number one plumbing simulator.

You're already there, lad, for years. When was the last time you arranged how much str and how much agi your char gets when he levels up in WoW?Muzjhath wrote:Just, what is that? What happened to leveling MY OWN FUCKING CHARACTERS? The way I WANT THEM TO BE?

The "number one plumbing simulator" was for newfags when I was your age D: Granted, it launched way earlier, but it became a solid franchise in early 90's. And, by then, we were playing Prehistorik, Titus the Fox, Alley Cat, Rick Dangerous, Pharaoh's Tomb, Zaxxon, Arkanoid, etc. Hardcore, m8. Hardcore!Kristeas wrote:When I was your age, I was happy with 8 buttons, 1 attack and a single dot to show an eye.

And yes, HoMM3 was epic. I liked HoMM5 too, but I somehow never got a liking to 4. Icewind Dale was pretty awesome too ;_;
In general, fully agreed about offline gaming. Unless we reach a point where quality free city-wide wi-fi with satisfactory uptime is accessible, it's jerk move to make games online-only. And sadly, that is not Blizzard's new plaything. It's been on the talks from various sources for a few years now. It's been a topic of heated debate online (irony, hurhur) already.
