Cyanide is linked closely in nature with the smell of almonds. If something smells of almonds (apart from maaybe, an almond, or marzipan) stay clear of it. It's probably contains cyanide or a derivative.

As for more interesting toxins/poisons.... there are as many as your imagination. I love the idea of severing someone's connection to the Light, or damaging their soul, or using a binary poison. Something sinister, really dark. Even if it's sanctioned by "the right"

This may be stealing ideas, though I can't remember the book I read with this in. But what about various blades/metals that could be poisonous to various beings, and thus used as poisons by fashioning it into daggers etc?

Fey don't like cold iron and ethereal creatures (like ghosts) need silver weapons?

Aye thats a good one. How about weapons made of Saronite can be considered poisonous to mortal beings on contact? It being a corrupt metal and all?

Unless you to to lenghts to purify it with all kinds of holy stuff, the corruption is as much through contact as it's through presence. I always understood it that Saronite is radiating evil. And since it's a mind thing, a strong mind/faith would protect against it.

Ah so its similar to radiation in a way. Thats interesting. I wonder if Fel Steel can be considered poisonous? Or if you can get Poison enchantments to use on various weapons.

Could certain spells that make people ill be considered poison as well?

I would think that fel steel is a contact thing but with the same corrupting/poisonous. Maybe that the effective "corruption range" is much smaller. Hmm, what to do with thorium
